Sirhowy Valley Honey Bee Company – Bees Educating Eco Schools Interactive Bee Hive House in the school grounds of Ynysddu Primary School. This is a partnership project between the Sirhowy Valley Honeybee Company Ltd, Caerphilly County Borough Council and Ynysddu Primary School. Schools can visit to take part in one or two 2 hour interactive workshops. Workshops will include learning: Why bees are important About pollination About honey, how it is made and extracted How to approach a bee hive, wearing a bee suit About life in the hive, how the bees work and live How to prevent swarming, develop new colonies How to rear queen bees Each 2 hour Interactive workshop costs £60. When booking, please confirm if you want to book one workshop (£60 half day), or two workshops (£120 full day). Workshops will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Workshop times will be 10am to 12pm or 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Workshops can run during March, April, May, June, July, September and October (weather dependant). Schools can bring up to 30 pupils per day. There is a maximum of 15 pupils plus staff for each workshop. Pupils will be split into two groups of 15, please provide staff to look after both groups. One group alongside a supervising teacher will take part in the interactive Bee workshop with the bee keeper, learning all about life inside the hive. The other group of 15 pupils will be looked after by the accompanying teacher. They will have the option to stay in the youth room and watch the Bee Movie (provided), or use the Bee

This is a partnership project between the Sirhowy Valley Honeybee Company Ltd, Caerphilly County Borough Council and Ynysddu Primary School.

Schools can visit to take part in one or two 2 hour interactive workshops.

One group alongside a supervising teacher will take part in the interactive Bee workshop with the bee keeper, learning all about life inside the hive. The other group of 15 pupils will be looked after by the accompanying teacher. They will have the option to stay in the youth room and watch the Bee Movie (provided), or use the Bee World Resource (provided),, which contains useful information, curriculum linked activities and other resources to learn about bees, or they can use the nature garden in the school grounds to undertake a lesson and/ or for play.

Schools will need to provide their own transport to and from site.

Everyone attending will need to wear wellies and trousers. This is for Health & Safety!

This project has been developed with the help of funding from Keep Wales Tidy’s All Wales Grant Scheme, The CCBC Greener Caerphilly Grant, the CCBC Regeneration Fund and the Sirhowy Valley Honeybee Company.
