BULL CREEK PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our theme this term is Animals and we have started investigating sea animals. Over the year we have used our friend ‘Braidy’ to support us with reading and retelling stories. Braidy helps us to identify the structure and components in a Narrative (eg. setting, characters, events, problems, solutions and feelings) This week we read the story “Bright Stanley” by Matt Buckingham. We completed some story boards and retells as well as making our own Bright Stanleys to describe our favourite parts. We hope you like our work!

Bull Creek Primary School
From the Principal’s Desk
A short term of nine weeks but what a busy term !! Thank you to everyone for your involvement and support during Term 2. Welcome Back The children have returned fresh and eager to commence Semester 2. I would like to extend a special welcome to the five new families who have joined our school recently. I wish all our Year 7s the very best for their final semester of Primary School. I feel very confident they are well prepared for the wonderful opportunities High School will provide. Kindy Students—Please Enrol Soon! We are very keen to get all children starting Kindy in 2014 to enrol as soon as possible—and preferably by Friday 9th August. That is especially the case for children in our local area—little brothers and sisters of our current students and also neighbours with young children. Once we reach our limit of 40 students (two groups) we will not be able to accommodate any more. Next Assembly Our first assembly this term will be presented by Mrs Pratt and Mrs Cowin’s Wattle 8 class. This assembly will be held on Friday 2 August. Everyone is very welcome to attend. Tim Cremin
Congratulations Wattle One
Children from Wattle One, together with their families, took part in a Scholastic Reading Competition last term. Our challenge was to read for as many minutes as we could during the National Family Reading Month of May. We read for a total of 60,095 minutes! We came 5th in Australia and have won a $150 voucher to spend with Scholastic. Well done! Wattle One and your families are Reading Champions!

Our New Soccer Wall
As some parents might have seen, we have a newly painted wall (11 metres by 2.5 metres) which depicts a soccer goal, a goalie and a cheering crowd behind the goals. A local professional artist, Nicky
Adams, and her husband Peter created this very effective design and led the project from start to finish. I would like to sincerely thank Nicky and
Peter for their commitment. It is greatly appreciated.
Several parents and some staff also helped with the painting at some weekend painting sessions. These people have been very generous with their time and effort—thank you to
everyone who helped.
We also had some extremely generous donations for the project from the following companies: Bunnings- High Road, Willetton
Harcourts - Parry Avenue Shopping Centre Definition Health Club - Bull Creek
Cartridge World - Parry Avenue Shopping Centre Bull Creek Chinese Restaurant - Parry Avenue Shopping Centre
These sponsors have made this lovely addition to the school possible - Thank you!

TIPS FOR PARENTS
How can you help your child?
Ideas for Reading Together (Pair Reading)
In pair reading you will both share the reading. You may
choose to read a page each or read at the same time. The goal or aim of pair reading is to ENJOY a book together. SIT OR LIE DOWN TOGETHER WITH THE BOOK IN THE MIDDL E
SO YOU CAN BOTH SEE THE BOOK. 1) Talk about the title and pictures on the front cover. Guess - what might happen in the story? - who might the story be about? - will the book be real or pretend? 2) You and your child both read the words out loud together. Point to
the words as you read. Do not go too fast - make your reading the same speed as your child’s.
3) You both need to read every word. If your child is trying to work out
the words count to 10 then help them to work out the words. See the help sheet for ideas on this.
4) Tell your child that they need to let you know when they want to
read by themselves. Listen to them read. If they start to struggle then start reading again with them.
5) At the end of the book ask each other questions about the story. DON’T FORGET TO ASK RIGHT THERE, THINK AND SEARCH A ND
ON MY OWN QUESTIONS.
