• Satoshi Nakamoto 2008https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
• The first implementation of a blockchain• Bitcoin is a crypto currency, traded as BTC• With a bitcoin wallet you can own your own bitcoins• Transferring bitcoins from one wallet to another takes
minutes regardless of where in the world the owners of those wallets are

• Ethereum was concieved in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, a Canadian of Russian descent.
• He created Ethereum as an open source project whenhe realized that developers needed a more flexible platform than the bitcoin blockchain provided
• Ethereum is a platform that runs decentralizedapplications, namely ”smart contracts”.
• The currency of Ethereum is called ether• Second biggest blockchain after Bitcoin

• R3 is a consortium of more than 70 of the world biggestfinancial institutions.
• More than 70 companies (mainly banks) contribute to R3− SEB, Nordea, Danske Bank, HSBC, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan,
Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America
• The consortium's joint efforts have created an open‐source distributed ledger platform called Corda

• “Corda is a distributed ledger platform designed and built from the ground up for the recording and automation of legal agreements between identifiable parties. It is heavily influenced by the requirements of the financial industry”
• ”uses the same technology as bitcoin but restrictsaccess to transaction data”
• Uses the term ”distributed ledger” in theircommunication, not blockchain
• The Corda platform was made available as open source in November 2016

• Everledger is a permanent ledger for diamond certification and related transaction history
• Verification for insurance companies, owners, claimants and law enforcement
• Every diamond is scanned to create a unique ID. This ID is attached to the smallest possible bitcoin value (satoshi), which makes it possible to trace all transactions with this diamond
(100,000,000 satoshi = 1 bitcoin)

• today trust in business and other institutions is mostlyat an all‐time low
• Internet lacks the much‐needed security• ”digital conglomerates” like Amazon, Google, Apple and
Facebook are capturing the treasure troves of data
• The blockchain technology have a trustworthy global platform.
• There are no central database to hack• We are calling it
”the Trust Protocol”

With blockchain technology a world of new possibilitieshas opened
We can; ‐ protect our privacy‐ monetize our own information‐ ensure that creators are compencated for theirintellectual property
‐ start to change the way wealth is distributed

Twelve disruptions

• Reduced costs (elimination of expensive intermediaries)
• Increased Revenue (freeing up excess capacity for reuse)
• Speed (end‐to‐end automation)
• Improved effectiveness (reduce human errors)
• Increased security and integrity
• Increased privacy protection
The Economic Payoff

• A blockchain governance network is critical to stewardship of this global resource.
• We need all stakeholders globally to collaborate and provide leadership in the same way as Internet is governed, where no government, country or corporation controls the internet. It works.
