Kokopelli Notes Presidents Pen Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to our new board year! If you are new to Luke, we’re glad you are here. If you are returning for the new year, please reach out to any new spouses in your squad- rons and invite them to join us! We’ve got a great year planned and I look forward to sharing it with each of you! Our theme for this year’s socials is reality television. The first so- cial is just around the corner, on Tuesday, August 19th at Club 56 at 11:00 am. The theme for the August social is Survivor, as in you survived PCS season and a summer of kids at home and now it’s time to party with your friends in the LOSC! Please join us for some fun and games and an expo featuring members of our military community who will be on hand to provide information on their many servives and answer questions about your benefits. We will also be sharing the LOSC’s mission and goals for helping our military and local commu- nities this year. Come enjoy some barbeque and learn what the LOSC is all about. Charitable OpportunitiesOasis MealsOn the second Saturday of each month, the LOSC provides a meal for 30-40 air-men who live in the dorms. If you and your squadron/organization are interested in providing a meal for the dates below, please contact Susie Dunn at [email protected].

We would like to thank the Blue Blazers for providing an amazing meal for our airmen in July. It was a great success! Thank you to those who have already com-mitted to serving future meals. Please consider serving on one of our available dates:

Ronald McDonald HouseEach year, the LOSC prepares dinner for the Ronald McDonald House. The RMH is a “home away from home” for families who must travel to recieve treatment at Phoenix Children’s Hopsital. The RMH provides an atmosphere of comfort, hope, and support for treatment lasting a day, a month, or longer, with low-cost housing next door to the hospital. We are working to identify dates that the LOSC can provide meals for these families. If you would like to be involved please contact Susie Dunn.

Recipe of the Month: Cobb Pasta Salad Ingredients:1 lb pasta3/4 cup Blue Cheese Vinaigrette Dressing1/2 cup finely diced red onion1 1/2 cups small grape tomatoes2 hard boiled eggs, diced6 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles1 avocado, diced

Directions:

Cook pasta and rinse under cold water and then drain. Toss with half the vinagrette. Add red onion, tomatoes, and eggs. Refriger-ate for at least 30 minutes. Just before serving mix in remain-ing vinagrette, bacon, blue cheese crumbles and avocado.

Bowling will be back in September! Call Pudge Hoskins if you are interested in playing (623) 878-7712.

Bunco

Bunco will be meeting the first Thurs-day of every month at 6:00 pm start-ing again in September at Club 56. If you would like to play, please contact Robbin Swartz at (623) 693-8751 or [email protected].

Book Club

Book club will start again in September but we will meet at the end of August to select books for the year. Please contact special activities if you are interested in joing the fun!

Mahjong

Mahjong will continute to meet at 9:30 am every Friday at Club 56. Contact Brenda Young at (623) 581-9052 for more information.

Golf Club

Golf Club is looking for interested members and a point of contact. In the past, members participated in lessons on Mondays. If you’d like to learn how to play golf, consider being the POC for the group!

Each year the OSC Board selects a theme for our meetings to keep things fun and interesting. This year is no exception!

LOSC will be entering the realm of reality television! From The Price is Right to The Real House-wives of Luke, each meeting will be full of surprises and fun prizes!

Make sure to contact Camille to make reservations for childcare for the socials!

In addition to the exciting montly socials, our organiza-tion aids the Luke AFB commu-nity by supporting the Ronald McDonald House, OASIS meals, and other local charities.

Annual membership dues are $48 with the digital newsletter and $60 with the printed news-letter. If you are a spouse of a military student, the dues are $24 (not to exceed 6 months). Dues will be prorated for new members, as needed.
