To the Editorial • • • Editor's Desk:

Can you believe it? We're seniors. Not just seniors, but about-to-graduate-seniors. You know, I never thought it would happen, but I've gone nostalgic over the place. Dig through some piles, and pull out your old yearbook from freshmen year. Eeek!! Did we really look like that? Remember how cool we thought we were? High school students. Of course, pride comes before a fall ... straight down the ramp. And then there was freshmen P.E .... nice uniforms. Waking up at 5:00 a.m. to catch the smelly old bus ("Oh, no, I never ride the bus. Su, the junior who gives me a ride was, uh, sick . • . today!") The thrill of being able to chew gum in class was overshadowed only by the first bagel sale! The Polo Man hit A.H.S. big time, along with Dolphins, the Bo Derek look, Vans, surfer shirts, and who could forget Devo glasses?!

Sophmore year we were hot! We were nonchalant but eager members of the clubs we'd just joined, and getting closer and closer to big "16", and driving time. Goofing up in the simulators was sure fun than the first ticket. Our football team was hot ... we even beat Scottsdale!! Slurpees at 7-11 and French fries at the snack bar. Geometry was a pain, but we survived. Remember student body elections . . . (Pete and Paul's supporters). Punk rock was the latest fad - mohawks and saftey pins through various parts of the body. Gee, we're almost upperclassmen! Things are swinging now. Aren't the

This fantastic '83-'84 year is quickly coming to a close. We have had a fantastic array of activities from fine arts to sports, from clubs to student government and senate. The Silver Extravaganza and Silver Spectacular will always be fondly remembered, as will all the numerous extra-curriculat achievements Arcadia was distinguished with this year. Oliver has had a DYNAMIC year.

Success did not come with ease: hard work and dedication were essential. The following people deserve a good pat on the back for giving their ALL to succeed: Nancy, Jon, Julie, Michelle, Carol, Jill, Christy, Kris, E.G., Kathy, Emily, Stephanie, Theresa, Avery, Penny, Katie, Roz, Jeanne,

freshmen small? We never looked like that! Hey dude . . . Fast Times at Ridgemont High was the movie. Girls wore miniskirts and knickers, while guys stuck to the tired and true ... Bermuda shorts and Polos. We showed our spirit in the fight to keep Arcadia open, and kept our class together. And then, just as we hit the top of the world ...

Senior year! The moment of truth. Gosh, econ is even more loving than American History. "Have you done your terms?" "Gee, I don't feel like a senior - I still can't reach my top locker." SATS, ACTS, Achievements . . . "And where are you going to school?" Goodbye Dr. Pratt, hello Ms. Collins. "What do you mean, I can't ditch?" "But I like using Mr. Bruins' parking space, it's convenient." Fun pep assemblies, the Silver Spectacular, late nigh t jacuzzing, "what homework?" Caps and crowns, graduation announcements, the relief of no more elections and club tryouts! Senioritis - arrugh! But we even lived through that. Isn't it strange that our only fashion statement this year was old sweats?! High school. It's suppose to be the greatest days of your life. Well, they weren't perfect, but mixed in with the tears, yawns, fights and frustrations were laughter, good times and friends. It may sound corny, but Arcadia has been an awfully nice place to grow up. The only problem is, I'm not sure I'm ready to leave the nest.

Oliver Says Au Revior!

Andrea, Beth, Lisa, lIsa, Chris, Kristy, Amy, Holly, Becki, Tammy, Pete, Trishia, Kim, Laurie, Steve, Nancy, Mia, Laura, Joey, Jim, Lori, Amy, Lynda, Amy, Amy, Ellin, Brooke, Fabrice, Steve, Christy and Anne. THANKS, guys. You were FANTASTIC!

Finally, best of luck to next year's student body officers: Christy, Julie, Andrea, Lori and Christy. Dave's "fatherly talks," Michelle's "tempermental tizzies," Nancy's "milea-minute mouth," "paintedsplattered fingers," and Jill's "last-minute bookstore raids" may come in handy next year. Take care of ARCADIA: this school deserves the BEST!

David Vershure Student Body President

Every year the Editor of the paper gets to write "From the Editor's Desk," ripping us fellow editors and reporters. I decided that Amy wasn't going to get away with it this year just like John didn't get away with it last year. So here goes.

A famous figure around Arcadia, Amy can be spotted carrying five different clipboards with her name, initials, alligators, whales, teddy bears or pigs on them. She dresses only in pink, green, white and pastels and only in overall dresses from Oxford Scholar or one of her 50 sweat outfits. She could knit me a sweater with her hair ribbons. She has a Polo portable nightstand and sends a Christmas (Oh, excuse me-Holiday) card to Ralph Lauren every year. He should send her one, I mean after all, Mommy and Daddy Silverman have forked out enough to buy him a car .

Amy can be seen walking down the hall making lists of what to do the next day, buying out Jutenhoops' supply of stickers, putting on her bossy President-ofSpeech-and-Debate-and-ASPU voice, cracking anti-Semetic jokes to me, a fellow member of the Jewish persuasion, at the top of her lungs, drinking a Tab, and most often of all-selling bagels. Oh, I forgot-running over garbage cans at gas stations, not that I should talk.

I know her so well that it's hard to wonder what else she could possibly do in her "spare" time like sleep or maybe kick her dog or gossip occassionally. Hmmmm. The first female president or economist or professional critic I can definitely see.

Everyone always talks about the people that are the Arcadia stereotype, but you, Ed., are an exception. The school or the paper would not be what it's been if it weren't for you. I've never seen a harder working person at anything but homework than you-why did you bother wasting money on books, senior most cheapest nominee! I didn't.

On behalf of Mrs. Hagen and the staff, I would like to say that there could not habe been a better Editor than you-ya kept it together great! Best of luck in college and the future.

I Love You! Roz

Rapped Up

With Roz

Dear Arcadia,

May 21,1984

At the beginning of the year when I took John Boydston'S place as the feature columnist, I really wondered if I could ever measure up to him, but then I realized that I wasn't competing with my predecessor, rather developing my own style of humor. (Well, humorous to me at least.) I had a great time writing this column, and I really appreciate having the freedom to express myself unedited. Thank you, Arcadia, for putting up with all the B.S. and the fun I poked at you. I realize that at times I may have seemed hypocritical, (I do wear Guess jeans and plastic shoes. I do leave tape up on the walls when I put up cheer posters. I flirt in public and on Camelback Mountain. The button has popped open on my shirt before (not that anyone noticed), and, yes, I have walked around with my my fly unzipped for an hour or so but I am an Arcadian who has to laugh at myself sometimes too. My column is one of the experiences that I will really miss, especially after two years of being the Feature Editor of the Arcadian. I doubt that USC will have a need for an obnoxious, New Wave writer voicing her opinions freely on the Trojan paper. Once again, thank you administrators, teachers, parents, and students. I really do love Arcadia and will really miss most of this small world that I lived in for 4 years.

Love Roz,

P .S. Good luck to next year's columnist, whoe~er it may be. You'll need it. '

From the Editor's Desk Well, guys, the year has flown by, and it seems like only

yesterday that we were saying goodbye to John, and wondering what would happen next year. We've had our ups and downs, but I think we still managed to put out a pretty groovy paper. More than that, we had fun along the way. (Remember cramming into the station wagon to go to Garcia'S, watching Andy Griffith, pictures on the chalkboard, interesting typos, rubber cement boogers and the one that went down Mrs. Hagen's shirt, and "selling ads" to 7-11!) Anyhow, I'll really miss all of you - it's been a once-in-alifetime experience. By the way, I'll forgive you for making fun of my ----- , calling me a Preppy, (and Cheap) and laughing at my typing skills, if you'll forgive me for my major rag sessions. Since there were so many people on the staff this year, I have a quickie for each of you.

Fine Arts Presented Fiddler on the Roof

This year's musical was Fiddler On The Roof. The many hours and hard work paid off on show night. The leading roles were played by Scott Fleetwood, and Kim Murillo.

The story takes place in Anatevka, a small Russian Village. The Jewish families are being forced out by the Russians. The whole theme is about the traditions of the people and how they're being changed by Perckik, who is played by Bob Munsil. Marriages have always been arranged by the Matchmaker, (Lisa Ford) and by the fathers. The three daughters of Tvye (Amy Ford, Heather Brody and Elaine Daily), seek their own husbands and break the traditions that had been set long ago. This causes an uproar in the village.

Fine Arts has a Successful Year

The Arcadia Fine Arts Department had an excellent year. New and exciting productions kept everyone busy; wither participating or supporting as an audience.

Oct. 18 The year started off with the first fall concert.

Nov.4 and 5 The first play to be brought to the Arcadia stage this year was "Up the Down Staircase." It was a unique play in which the students and faculty got a chance to work, act and achieve with each other . .

Dec. The Holiday Concert included participation from: Varsity Chorus, Chorale, Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and the Symphonic Band.

Chorale put extra participation in singing Christmas greetings at: Organ Stop, rest homes, Biltmore Park and at the Governors Convention.

Jan 27 and 28 Once again Arcadia took part in the Solo and Ensemble and Regional auditions. It was held at West Wood High Arcadia was proud to leave with nothing less than an excellent in the overall grades.

Before Ingleside registered for their classes at Arcadia next year, Chorale sange a few numbers to show them part of our Choral program.

March 7 The Silver Extravaganza was probably one of the most successful productions at Arcadia. The participants ranged from the Pom Line, Varsity Chorus and Chorale, to Drama Club members and our own teacher Mr. Larabell. Many special effects were used to bring this

performance to it's highest potential. The Silver Extravaganza was video taped and shown on Scottsdale United Cabel.

Thirteen people from Arcadia made Regional Choir which was held at West Wood. Three people from that, made the All-State Choir and sang in Flagstaff for their performance.

April 27, 28 May 4,5 The Musical this year is Fiddler on the Roof.

May8 Chorale and Guys and Dolls had a fund raising concert to help raise money for their summer tour.

May 15 Spring Concert. The final choral concert the 18th.

May 25 Chorale Tour . Guys and Dolls is once again going on tour to California. They will be singing at Disneyland, Universal Studios, Catalina Is., and Burbank High School

Next years plans will be pretty much the same as this years. When Mrs. hageman, the Fine Arts Director, was asked what she would change next year, she simply replied; "I would like to see Arcadia have an Outstanding Concert choir of Festival Caliber." Many thanks is expressed to Mrs. Hageman for she has been more like a best friend than a teacher to most. It's no wonder her nickname is "Mom."

And thank you for your support Arcadia, for no performance can be a success without the applaise of the audience when the curtain falls.

gratification one receives from presenting a professional show is . beyond that which any audiance can give.

Again, Congratulations on a great performance! A special thanks to Mrs. Hageman for her shaping of an ideal show

Teachers are people too: Mr. Tamasaukas

month the Arcadian Mr. Tamasauckas as

teacher of the month. Mr. Tamasauckas attended City College of New York for three years and then enlisted in Luke Air Force Base during the Korean War as a draftie . After his four years in the service, he returned to C.C.N.Y. to finish his last year of education, which he majored in Industrial Arts, and had a minor in education.

Mr. Tamasauckas has been at Arcadia for 22 years. We asked him about the most peculiar thing that had ever happened to him at Arcadia, and he recalled one Christmas some of his students

bought him a bottle of alcohol and a subscription to Playboy. He claims all he did with them was store them on a shelf; what did you really do with them? We also asked him if he was the original "Mr. T" and he said, "Yes, but without a mohawk . Before students are allowed to call me 'Mr. T,' they must first have my permission."

Some students may think he is strict. Mr. Tamasauckas says he demands respect not only for himself, but for the industrial equipment the school supplies them with as well. He is serious about teaching, and has maintained a very good safety record, which he is proud of. Mr. Tamasauckas would like to see every student graduating from Arcadia pass through one of his Industrial classes.

His hobbies include playing the drums in a band. He plays for conventions, hotels, and country clubs. He teaches college students at night and also teaches traffic survival courses. When and if, he retires, he plans to travel outside of the country, possibly to Europe. The Arcadian appreciates you, and wishes you luck in your upcoming years of teaching.

poug Since we, the Arcadian staff,

want this last issue to be so tremendous, we decided to do a tremendous thing for our Student of the Month column. We took two outstanding students, one an aspiring Freshman, the other a retiring Senior. Both have displayed outstanding qualities that we feel deserve to be recognized. The neatest thing about all this, is that these two wonderful people, who you are dying with anticipation to hear about, are, yes . .. brother lnd sister.

Ladies and Gentlemen, our Students of the Month are Douglas and Kristen Calvert!! Isn't this exciting? Ladies first, of course. We take Kris, who's 15, and has involved herself with Student Government, where she holds the office of Freshman class President; ASPU Seargant at Arms of the House; she also plays softball and tennis. Kris really enjoys playing tennis, and also loves to shop. She has a hilarious sense of humor, which obviously runs in the family! When asked if she has learned ANYTHING from her older brother Doug, her reply was, "Mainly-Make things fun. Laugh at life (even when it's bad) and especially don't put off those college applications!!!" (We'll all swear by that one) Kris likes the ' variety of people here, and because Arcadia is rather small, getting to know people easily is another advantage. In the future, Kris plans to get involved in Interact, Delta, and possibly run for Student body President in a few years. Kris admits that she'll miss Doug next year, because she'll be without a ride to school everyday. She and Doug get along well; of course there will be an occassional brawl or two, but they are very

good friends-as Kris puts it, "It's really a good deal when you have a friend who lives with you."

Kris seems to like everything about her big brother, except that "He's so much of a stud, I feel inferior!" (just kidding Doug!) The only other thing that bugs her is his "obnoxious parties with his obnoxious friends when they're supposedly watching tapes of football games !?"

Over the summer, Kris plans to attend Summer school, hopefully get a job, and "get a tan!" Well, thanks for the info Kris, now let's hear what the Almighty Doug has to say for himself . ..

- He claims to be 17, and casually adds that his birthday is just around the corner (June 4) keep that in mind everybody. Throughout his 4 years at Arcadia, Doug has played on football, baseball, and wrestling teams, been on Student Senate, and is (Or was) Key Club President. (Whatever happened there, Doug?) Doug also has quite a brain, which explains his being in the top 10070 of the State Math Exams, and top 5 % of the Senior class. Very impressive Doug! His interests are as stated, "Females, school and my activities, carrying surprises with Scott Gesicki-Michelle Brenchley inside." When asked what he likes about Arcadia, he said the people, except for freaks and !_%&**s_?*.! (female dogs). He thinks his litter sister "is just swell," and he's real proud of her accomplishments. Doug claims he doesn't beat her (Kris) up or anything, and they talk about "people 'n stuff" -especially the 'n stuff." His precious advice that he leaves with Kris so she may also succeed at Arcadia is to "become friends with B.C. and Cal."

ARCADIAN

Titan Band had a

great year

The Arcadia Titan Band has again completed another successful season under the direction of extraordinary band leader, Marty Krusniak.

During marching season the band showed tremendous talent. Now that it is concert season, the band is still bumbling with exciting activities.

Arcadia is proud to honor two students here who attended AllState in Flagstaff on April 13 and 14th. All-State consists of the best musicians from high schools in Arizona. Junior Alice Crump attended because of her superior flute playing ability and senior Jennifer Hetrick played alto clarinet.

On April 27, 28 and May 4th and 5th, the pit orchestra is planning to perform the music for the play "Fiddler on the Roof."

The Arcadia Jazz Ensemble will be competing on April 28th at the State High School Jazz Festival at Thunderbird High School.

On May 8th, drum major and flag line tryouts will be held. About 26 girls will be chosen for the line this year. All sophomore, junior, and senior girls are welcomed to tryout.

Kris (That's very clever, Doug!) Many Arcadians admire Doug for his outstanding school spirit. Whenever there's a Dress-up day, count on Doug to be all decked out, whether it be a dress, pajamas, or a toga, perhaps. In fact, this is one of the reasons Doug was chosen as Student of the Month, and he was so excited when he found out, that he had to change his pants . To all the aspiring youth of Arcadia, Doug leaves this advice, "Do anything you can, but don't get caught." Thank you Doug.

This summer, Doug plans to work as an "office boy" at SRP, and will probably attend Pitzer University next year. Last of all, Doug would like Arcadia to remember him for his "modesty;' SURE THING DOUG, you can count on it!

We hope you've all enjoyed this article, and perhaps even read it! We know it's not always the most exciting column, but this is certainly the exception-a DOUG and KRIS CAL VERT exclusive??? COME ON NOW!!!! We hope you have relished each and every word and perhaps even say "hi" to Kris or Doug if you're lucky enough to run into either of them throughout your daily travels. Kris and Doug, good luck in the future, and please don't become egomaniacs over all this exposure and recognition! Yes, Arcadia salutes you both, for being the exemplary brother-sister couple that you are. May we all strive for more harmonious relationships with our own kin, and oh, yes, may your lives be filled with happiness, success and lots of Energizer batteries for your Sony Walkmans so Doug doesn't have to borrow Kris's and wreck her tapes and start another fight ...

84-85 SB elections prove that "Girls don't just wanna have fun"

As school this -year came to a close you probably noticed thousands of multi-colored posters covering the walls of Arcadia and said to yourself, "Who are these people?" Well, it's our job to tell you just who these "people" are.

On April 19th, the annual assembly of Student Body Elections took place. The first to make her speech was running for the office of Treasurer. Tammy Lustgarten stated that she would implement new ideas from Scottsdale High for next years' student government. Mia Onodera told us her many qualifications, school activities and interests . Christy Williamson made a lot of strange and humorous promises.

For the office of Corresponding Secretary, Lori Rubin ran unopposed, but that didn't detract from the quality of her speech. She read a motivating poem.

Penny Diehl was the first speaker for the office of Recording Secretary. Although a !le~ st1ldent at Arsadia, Pennr's speech showed great determination and spirit. Andrea Girand's speech showed true originality as she compared Arcadia's Student

Body to Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat. Laura Owens listed her many activities she has been involved in, and the reasons she was qualified.

The next office was that of Vice President. Julie Bowe gave a very classy speech with Top hat, cane and a sparkling glass of ... 7-Up. Catey Bracken was next and her speech showed just how much she really cares about Arcadia. Kim Reiss' speech was truly motivating, and we knew she was the best possible choice.

And now, the moment you've been waiting for, the new 1984-85 Student Body officers: President, Christy Bulkeley; Vice President, Julie Bowe; Recording Secretary, Andrea Girand; Corresponding Secretary, Lori Rubin; and Treasurer, Christy Williamson.

Thanks to all of the many candidates who ran for the various offices, and congratulations to the new 1984-85 Student Body Officers. Good luck!

Don't tell anyone butiii What ex-Arcadian (J.L.) got into a fight at a Western party?

T.M. How's your face? Did K. W. really go to McCormick Ranch and mash on the

1:00 in the morning? Hey M.Z.-Did you wear leather jockeys to Prom too? K.B. and T.L.-T.R. is very sorry she forgot her boat key. Don't worry K.C. -C.B. isn't worth anything since he sold his

Tell us Lance, Sean and Elliot; What did Cupid make you do? What well known football player, M.C., gave a certain student body

president a hickie with the help of a fuction sunnel in 4th hr. Chemistry. Hey D.B., Eddybear says he wants a hug-Blondie Hey Blondie, I hear the seals are loose!-D.B. What two girls were in the fast lane (95 mph) with a frog, brute, and a

into Burger King backwards? What senior guy almost got arrested for trespassing when he was just

trying to get across the mall to see a movie? (F.V.) What ex-pommie (A') doesn't wear a bra? What junior girl (A.C.) went to see the muppet show, hoping not to

see anyone she knew? What choral student shot the director wearing boxers with red hearts

on them, with a lazer gun? (See above for clue). Yes, L.S., Jr. will be baptized. What two Freshman girls, S.l. and S.P., went to such extreme

measures as to pass out flyers and paint a car just to impress a senior guy with a black truck? Nice try, girls!

Eric, I'll always care. Love, Erin.

What's in store for the class of 2009

Ah, yes. I can see it now. Arcadia in 25 years will definitely be a sight you won't want to miss. Assuming that the year 2000 has advanced man beyond our wildest dreams, could you even imagine what our campus will look like in the year 2oo9? For starters, at 7:30 in the morning, Joe Stud space cadet will cruise onto the campus in his radical starlit metalic silver hover-craft, race over the magnesium powered ultrasonic lazerbeam speed bumps and park in the excaliber student parking quarters. Then out of the car he hops wearing his silver one-piece reversable Ralph Lauren hand knitted fire proof space jump suit. No need to comb his hair because the newest style for guys is bald, although he'll never remove the 5 lb. uranium ear ring which is bolted to his lobe. As for the girl, the new clothing style will consist of high-quality miniature geodesic domes which are worn are worn over each bosom.

A solid silver, fig-leaf designed wrap-around will be worn over the lower body hitched together with an incinerating touch-proof padlock. The hair will hang at ankle level and weave around each geodesic dome.

Teachers on the other hand will wear tight fitting silver "Lost in Space" stretch pants with matching top, and an afro will be the most popular hair style along with silver electrodes protruding out of the scalp. Each teacher will issue his students shock collars which will be worn at all times and the teacher will sit in the center of the classroom on a

Senior Prophecy ----

We are here at Arcadia's 10th reunion in 1994. Jeff Guerin, psychoanalyst, is reminiscing briefly with Brooke Terry, the next Rona Barrett, editor of Brooke's Enquirer. Polly Burke, a social worker in South Phoenix (THE Exclusive Blonde), is having a glass of punch with Steve Nelson, now a soccer player in Belgium, running a 7-11 chain as a tax shelter on the outside. Let's take a look at how some other classmates have turned out •••
