OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark

Today’s readings are full of historical implications and situations which the Scripture writers employ to express the depth of meaning connected to believing in Jesus. Luke wrote Acts (1st reading) for a Gentile audience. He reminds the readers, of all generations, that many Jews followed Jesus and St. Paul strove to convince them first before turning to the Gentiles. Conversion is ever a source of heated disputes and accusations of betrayal. It continues today as many innocent people suffer in areas where a single religious practice tolerates no other. The age of martyrs is on-going today; the manner of suffering has multiplied so that death is not its only source. John (2nd reading) used symbolic language and spectacular imagery in seeking to explain Jesus, the Lamb of God, to his audience. Today’s reading is a coded telling of those who died for their faith(“they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”) have risen with the Lamb to eternal glory where “every tear will be wiped away.” These stories of true faith are not meant to motivate us to martyrdom. They are confirming the truth and demands of following the Good Shepherd. Jesus says “My sheep hear My voice,” a loving reminder of how John’s Gospel presents Jesus as the Word of God made Flesh. It ever comes down to this: true and living faith is rooted in trust that God’s Word is true, personal, intimate and life-giving. To put His Words into practice will bring us to the sufferings of the Cross because “taking up our cross” means being vulnerable and unprotected in striving to love others as Jesus loves us and them. It means love is the source of life and choosing to love will cause suffering, pain, heartache and rejection because many are not on this page of truth, that many see love as weakness, compromise and fantasy. They choose other ways to live oftentimes introducing the forms of violence which plague the world and produce devastation and endless pain. Even we , who choose to follow Jesus, know how easily our human frailty can succumb to the temptations of selfishness and the appeals of wealth, power and control. These realities sum up the human struggle for meaning, purpose and fulfillment. Our choice is to hear the Shepherds voice and follow.

twenty-five counties of northern Colorado are being asked to unite in support of the

2013 Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal. The proceeds from this annual campaign fund

you for your donation.

OLMC ALUMNI CASINO TRIP Our Casino Trip to Blackhawk scheduled for Sat., Apr. 27th, has been cancelled. RESPECT LIFE Lord, We pray that all work will ensure that every life is valued as a light in the darkness of the Culture of Death. STVP Parish offerings for March were $706 and the Lenten soup $47.71. Another $76 for Lenten Soup was deposited early April. Rent/Motel made up expenses of $1,201.98. We cannot ‘thank you’ enough for your monetary assistance. Volunteers that work with the poor deal with a multitude of issues and, of necessity, must make difficult on-the-spot decisions. There is never enough money but an abundance of frustration. For each client assisted, many are turned away with only referrals. All agencies have this problem. We also need your prayers! Black & Indian Missions & Catholic Home Missions due to the wrong date being printed on our envelopes, this Collection can be put into the regular collection during this weekends Mass. We ask that God Bless You for your kindness. Spring Study Day May 6-7, at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center & St. Pius X Parish in Pueblo, CO.
