T he International College of

Health Sciences and Liberal

Arts (ICHSLA), in collaboration

with Kampala International

University (KIU), Uganda, has initiated a

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

to partner with Fountain University,

Osogbo to increase access to university

education in Nigeria and other West

African Countries.

In a meeting held in Fountain University

on the 8th of April, 2015, the ICHSLA

representative, Prof. Ahmed Adedeji ex-

plained that by the time the initiative takes

off. All states of the federation would have

a centre each and Fountain University

would house the Osun State Centre. The

programme is expected to provide oppor-

tunity for over 400,000 potential students

who are presently unable to access univer-

sity education in Nigeria due to limited and

competitive space available.

WEEK

FOUNTAIN FORTIFIES STUDENTS WITH LEADERSHIP TRAINING

T he student leadership of

Fountain University have

been taken through a lead-

ership training workshop to

polish their leadership skills and for-

tify them with the ability to attain ex-

cellence in both academics and their

respective offices.

While declaring the programme open,

the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bashir

Ademola Raji, represented by the Uni-

versity Librarian, Dr. B.O Gbadamosi

commended the Students’ Affairs Unit

for such a well-thought out pro-

gramme. He therefore, urged the stu-

dent leaders to be attentive and active

in the life-skill acquisition programme.

While speaking, the Co-ordinator of

Students’ Affairs Unit, Mr.

Abdul-Salami, I.O, said: “We discover

that in a bid to attain academic excel-

lence, the students neglect their lead-

ership roles on campus. It is our hope

that this effort will equip them with

necessary leadership skills for immedi-

ate and future benefits”.

During the one day leadership course

held on the 23rd of March, 2015 at Eti-

Osa Lecture Theatre of the Universi-

ty, students were exposed to different

topical presentations including Lead-

ership Mastery and Management Ex-

pertise, Leadership is Communication,

and Chase Two Rats and Kill the Two.

The topics were handled by Mr. Yinka

Anjous of Nigerian Institute of Manage-

ment (NIM), Mr. Oluwatoyin Yusuf,

a media and communication expert at

the Osun State Broadcasting Corpora-

tion (OSBC), Osogbo and Mr. Kamoru

Salaudeen of the Department of Mass

communication, Fountain University

Osogbo respectively.

The attendance of the Registrar,

Alh. M.O Olanrewaju and the Bursar,

Alhaja Silifatu Ali-Balogun at the

programme also was an indication of

how much importance the University

attached to the general development of

the students.

Inter-institution Public Speaking Con-

tests, Tafsiru-l-Quran, Special Asalatu

Programme, Sister’s Circle, Finalist

Forum and Health Talk with Dr. Mus-

tapha Hassan, a consultant ophthal-

mologist at LAUTECH Teaching Hospi-

tal, Osogbo.

Some important dignitaries to grace

the programme include Prof. Y.K

Yusuf, the FUO P.T.A. Chairman; Dr.

Abdul-Fatai Makinde, Religious Stud-

ies Department, Obafemi Awolowo

University, Ile-Ife; Imam, Abdul’Ha-

feez Adedimeji, the FUO Chief Imam;

Alhaji Adelopo Abdul-Azeez, the

Webmaster, University of Ibadan;

and Mr. Agunbiade Abdullah, FUMSS

T he 9-Day Annual Da’wah

Week of the Fountain Univer-

sity Muslim Students’ Society

(FUMSS) has commenced

Friday the 24th of April to end Satur-

day 2nd of May, 2015. The programme

which kicked off with a special Jumat

Service in the University Mosque fea-

tured Imam Adedimeji Abdul-Afeez, the

University Imam giving a sermon on the

Role of Muslim Youths in the Contem-

porary Society.

Other key features of the programme

are the formal opening featuring Dr.

Zafaran Adeniyi, a prolific author and

Director of Vanguards Academy, ad-

dressing the theme of the week-long

programme on the 25th April, the sec-

ond day of the programme. The maid-

en edition of Al-Fathu Magazine, an

annual publication of FUMSS was also

launched on the day.

Also in this year’s edition are Sporting

Activiting, Inter-departmental Quiz and

F O U N T A I N U N I V E R S I T Y B U L L E T I N

Arabic Vacation Course which is an as-

pect of the MOU begin in the coming

summer vacation. In his response, Alh.

Bolatito conveyed the goodwill mes-

sage from the President of NSSWO,

Sheik Abdullahi Maki.

It would be recalled that FUO and SUST

agreed on a partnership that would

enable the two institutions collaborate

on staff and student exchange, re-

search and Arabic vacation course for

students during the long vacation

break.

Present to receive the august visitor

were Prof. Y.K Yusuf, Chairman Parent

Forum and the Chief Imam of the Uni-

versity, Alhaji Abdul-Hafeez Adedimeji.

I n a bid to enhance communi-

ty relations, Fountain Univer-

sity has facilitated meetings

with the Osogboland King

Makers (Ataoja in Council) and the

Isale-Osun Descendants Communi-

ty who are the key stakeholders

and influencers in its land matters.

The essence of the meetings was to

seal a pact of mutual relations and

ensure peace between the Univer-

sity and its host community.

The two teams representing the

host community, after taking Foun-

tain principal officers round the

expanse of land, unanimously indi-

cated that the University shared

boundaries with both Osun River

and the Agric Settlement. They

therefore laid their weights on the

issue assuring the University of no

case of trespass and threat from

any angle.

This gesture will further strengthen

the existing ties of love and under-

standing between the University

and the entire host community

who magnanimously donated the

expanse of land on which the

school was built to NASFAT, the

proprietor.

Speaking at the forum held on the 3rd of

March, 2015 at Isale Osun Town Hall,

the Registrar, Alh. M.O Olanrewaju who

led FUO delegation, having graciously

appreciated the kind-heartedness of the

traditional leaders appealed to them to

keep their peace promises assuring

them that the University will ensure

they don’t regret their good gestures.

Community and Chief Imam of Isale

Osun Muslim Community, Alhaji Saliu

Monilade explained that the piece of

land originally belonging to six families

of Ayanlowo, Weso, Atoyebi. Alawaye,

Olufon and Alajo was transferred to

NASFAT by the former Ata-Oja of Osog-

bo land, Oba Iyiola Matanmi III and the

Certificate of Occupancy covering the

landed property had been issued

to that effect. He finally expressed

profound gratitude and sincere

appreciation to the University for

the civilization and development it

had brought to Isale Osun in par-

ticular and Osogbo community as

a whole while promising that they

were not going to derail from the

path of their fore-fathers.

The two separate meetings were attend-

ed by High Chief Ajagunna of Osog-

boland, High Chief Eesa of Osogboland ,

High Chief Baale of Gbonmi, Osogbo,

High Chief Oloriga of Osogboland, High

Chief Baba kekere of Osogboland, the

Isale Osun Community Leaders led by

the Chairman, Isale-Osun Community

Development Council, Imam Soliu Mo-

nilade. Imam Ibrahim Salawu, Mr Mufu-

tau Raji, Mr Jimoh Adeniyi, Mr Olorun-

lambe Akinloye, Mr Wahab Alawe, Mr

Liasu Yekinni Olasunkanmi, Alh. Usamat

Daranijo, Mr Basiru Tope, the Deputy

Imam of Isale Osun Muslim Community;

Alh. Saamotu Daranijo and the Secretary

of Isale Osun Descendants’ Community,

Mr Liasu Yekinni were also at the

meetings.

NIPR INDUCTS FOUNTAIN UNIVERSITY LECTURERS

The Nigerian Institute of Public

Relations (NIPR) has recently in-

ducted two lecturers from the

Mass Communication Department

of Fountain University. The lectur-

ers, Mr. Rasheed Adebiyi and Mr.

Kamoru Salaudeen were formally

absorbed as Associate Members of

the NIPR in Lagos.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of

Fountain University, Prof. Bashir

Ademola Raji has congratulated the

two lecturers on their induction

and wished them success in their

endeavours towards professional-

ism. Similarly, the Head of Mass

Communication Department, Foun-

tain University has also congratulat-

ed his colleagues on their attain-

ment of professional advancement.

FOOD

His favourite food is pounded yam (iyan)

and melon soup (obe egusi) garnished with

H appy is the lady who finds a true friend and

far happier is she who finds that true friend in

her husband. It was love in the air as a mem-

ber of the Bursary Unit of the University for-

merly known as Miss Idiat Kadiri got married to her better

half Mr Ibrahim Aderibigbe on the 21st March, 2015.

The colourful and mind blowing event which took place at

the Royal Holiday Inn, Osogbo was gracefully attended by

people from all works of life including members of Staff of

Fountain University.

The officiating Imam reminded the couple of their respon-

sibilities to each other and implored them to perform such

dutifully. He prayed that Almighty Allah never leave them

to their affairs even for a blink of an eye.

The University community wish the couple a happy

married life, plenty fruits of the womb and abundant

blessings.

sons at the programme. T he Mass Communication Department of Foun-

tain University is organising a Professional Me-

dia Skills Workshop for the 100 and 200 Levels

students of the Department.

The workshop, coming up between 10th and 12th of

May, 2015 is part of the Department’s effort to bridge

the gap between the University and the industry.

According to Dr. R.A Adeyemi, the Head of the Depart-

ment, this unique initiative will make graduates of the

department to be readily employable and job creators at
