Rotary District 3780 celebrates remarkable accomplishments dur-ng the year’s culminating event - the 2015 District Conference

he lackluster attendance at the plenary sessions and otherctivities did not hinder the successful holding of DISCON 2015

the historic Manila Hotel last April 17-18, 2015. The first ple-ary session was opened after a wonderful rendition of Philip-ne dance and song numbers. This was followed by the sing-g of the national anthems of Denmark and the Philippines bye RC New Manila East Choir, an equally superb performance

PP Chito Borromeo was confirmed DGND by the District Nnation Committee to serve as district governor in 2017-18other candidates had been nominated during the designtime period before DISCON. Congratulations, PP Chito.

RC Holy Spirit was represented in the Discon by Pres MaNepomuceno, PE Angel Castro, IPP Dr Eui Bong Jung anMarcia Salvador. Also in attendance during the second plesession were Holy Spirit Rotaract President Harold Kim gay, PN Lovely Rose Paalisbo and Service Chair Jayson Mde Ramos who, together with other Rotaractors, listeneDRR Sharlyn Que delivered her State of the District Rot Address.

The two-day DISCON ended with grandeur during the evGovernor's Ball at the Manila Hotel.

RC Holy Spirit officers BCP Marites Nepomuceno, PPLinda Palattao, PP Beth Sy, JR Delgra and Jerry Sy metwith and congratulated 16 scholars who will soon com-plete their course of study in computer programming athe Central Institute of Technology (CIT).. The scholars8 students supported by PP Linda and 8 students by

JR Delgra - have enjoyed free tuition at CIT during theschool years 2014-14 and 2014-15. Scholars for nextyear are being chosen.

Many of the scholars are also members of the newlyormed Rotaract Club of CIT. 

Continuing Sponsorship of 8 poor Children through WORLD VISION programOn March 31, 2015 BCP Marites Nepomuceno

nounced the continuation of her sponsorship of eighneedy children through the World Vision PhilippinesChristian humanitarian organization dedicated to worwith children, families, and communities to reach theipotential by tackling the causes of poverty and injusand help communities become self-sufficient.

The 8 children sponsored by BCP Marites are amongmore than 100,000 poor children with their families communities assisted by World Vision nationwide, thato nearly 70,000 sponsors locally and internationally.

Sunday, 12 April, marks 60 years since the Salk po-o vaccine was declared safe, effective, and potent.n that time, the number of polio cases has droppedby 99 percent worldwide. With just three countriesemaining polio-endemic, we are closer than ever to

eradicating this crippling disease.

Jonas Salk’s inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) hasbeen crucial in helping us reach our goal of a polio-ree world. Before the vaccine was widely available,n the United States alone, polio crippled more than35,000 people each year. By 1957 -- two years afterhe introduction of Salk’s vaccine -- cases in theU.S. had fallen by almost 90 percent, and by 1979,polio had been eradicated there.The impact on the rest of the world has taken

onger. In 1988, when Rotary International launchedhe Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) with its

partners at the World Health Organization, UNICEF,and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Pre-vention, polio continued to cripple children in 125countries. Today, polio remains endemic in onlyhree: Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. And it hasbeen more than eight months since Nigeria’s lastcase, making a polio-free Africa a real possibility.

Salk’s vaccine will play an important role in the end-

game strategy against polio when 120 countries in-roduce IPV into their routine polio immunizationsystems this year. Leading that effort are the GPEIpartners and Gavi,  a global vaccine alliance, alongwith Sanofi Pasteur, the largest manufacturer of po-o vaccine.

“As more than 120 countries in the world are inducing IPV, we are beginning the last chapter on lio eradication,” said Olivier Charmeil, Sanofi P

teur’s chief executive officer. “At Sanofi Pasteur, have had a long-term vision of IPV as the ultimpublic health tool able to finish the job started wOral Polio Vaccine (OPV).”

Chartered on June 29, 2005

One of few truly community-based clubs in District 3780: almost all members reside or

work in and around Barangay  Holy Spirit that serves both as a host community and venue

& beneficiary of most of the club’s service projects.

Become the club most admired by the communities it serves, by partners in service,

by hosts, sponsors & donors, by its members, and by others in Rotary.
