Gemma Malcolm

Gemma Malcolm's’ ‘The Power of Love’ advert is one that attracts the audiences eye with the use of a close up of the artist as the main

image. This is something often found in magazine adverts in particular for this genre, effective in grabbing the audiences

attention. Furthermore Gemma has added a Hollywood effect to this advert with the layout resembling that of a film poster as opposed to

a digipak/song advertisement. This is both effective and unconventional as it makes the reader pay attention. One drawback

however is the amount of dead space in the poster as well as the image being seemingly cut off making me concur that there seems

to be something missing or that this advert hasn’t been as meticulously planned as would be expected. On the other hand however I do feel that Gemma’s incorporation of administrative

details such as the platforms in which the song is to be released and the social media elements. Furthermore the masthead is particularly effective as it is big and bold and places the name of the song in the

audiences head making it clear what the name of the song is and who the artist is (to which is indubitably supported by the use of a

close up).

Tara Wilton

Tara Wilton’s album advert is particularly effective because it leaves no dead space and is immediately eye catching drawing the readers attention towards the page and thus to be aware of the information being ‘sold’ in the advert. This is a very simplistic piece using very simple but effective photography keeping the advert original but

professional at the same time. This is also very effective in tangent with Tara’s digipak which uses the same design and layout to which

could be a beneficial administrative detail as audiences will be aware of the image and immediately insinuate that the advert or digipak

belongs to this particular artist, thus potentially developing the notion of iconography. A potential draw back is the diversion away form the conventional use of a close up of the artist to which can

help to put a face to the name further aiding the iconography and at times the appeal of the artist to their audiences.
