You Me At Six – Hold Me Down

The background of this album poster is the cover of their album, this clearly shows the album and the poster are connected. This will also mean that the audience can recognise the album online or on stands in shops and are therefore more likely to remember the cover and buy the album.

On of the most bold aspects of the poster style ad is the release date; it is bright and stands out from the background, therefore it is more likely to be remembered by people who are interested in the album.

The colours of the album cover are very bright and eye catching; these bright colours and the explosive image will encourage people to view the advert because it will stand out from many other adverts.

The fonts for the artist name and album name are exactly the same as on the album. This will help people recognise the album when it comes out. In addition the two different font show the distinction between the artist name and the album name.

At the bottom of the advert it has been specified that the album can be physically bought and also downloaded online; this means that the album can be accessed by a wider audience as people who do not get a chance to shop can buy it online and people who cannot access to the internet can buy it in the shops.

It has also been specified that the album can be bought at PLAY.com, this suggests that the bands advertising team have probably made an agreement with the site so that their album will be promoted by them, this is commonly known as shared marketing.

In the bottom right hand corner there is a small logo which represents the label the band are with. This promotes the label and also encourages people who trust and like the label to start listening to You Me At Six.

Jake Bugg – Debut AlbumAlthough this advert is simple, it is still eye catching as the large white writing contrasts with the black background.

The image on this album advert is very similar to the image on Jake’s album, however instead of showing a close up of his face, a long shot has been used to show the majority of his body. Therefore people will be able to recognise the album as it is the same image but just focuses on the shoulders up. In addition the black and white theme will also help people recognise the album as it is the exact same as the album cover. Jake’s facial expression is quite serious, however I believe that his expression is also quite attractive and would appeal to his female audience.

Black and white is not a theme which is commonly used for album covers as it is traditionally seen as quite dull and boring, however Jake Bugg has subverted this convention; it could be suggested that Jakes album may actually stand out from other album covers and adverts because it is uncommon to see an album this simple. The colours within this advert and his album cover fit well with the genre because Jake Bugg is classed as indie / alternative / acoustic, therefore by being different and using black and white he has shown that he does not just follow the crowd; this could suggest that he is very unique and is alternative in his music and style.

At the bottom of the advert there is a link to Jake Bugg’s website, this allows the audience to easily find out more information about Jake, this tour, his music, his videos and lots of other updates. In turn this will result in more video views and music and merchandise purchases, which will create more income for Jake and his team.

The props within the image for this advert are a guitar case and a cigarette; the guitar clear clearly shows that the main focus of his music is acoustic, this will attract people who like this style of music. The cigarette will attract his target audience of teenagers and young adults as smoking is often seen as cool and attractive.

Different forms of music promotionIn a lot of cases bands cannot afford to create posters for all their work, such as music videos, therefore some artists choose to advertise more than one aspect of their music within one advert, this can be seen in the Maccabees and the Dog Is Dead advertisements below. The Maccabees have advertised their album by putting an image of the cover in the bottom left have corner; they have also included some details about the album so that people will be able to find it in stores and online. Similarly Dog Is Dead have advertised their new single across the bottom of their tour poster advert; they have used an image which relates to their single and have specified the name of their song and the fact that it is out now. In addition they have included a hashtag which can be used primarily on twitter, this will allow listeners to find other people who like the band and see other fans tweets by searching the words “wearefailures”, this will also allow the band to see their supporters tweets; this will allow fans to feel they have a connection with the band as they can easily contact them with suggestions or support.
