The McCook Art Guild was satisfied that the 2016 ANAC Conference went off very well. There were the usual last minute logistic problems but they were fixed with mini-mum inconvenience . With help from the community, with donations etc we were able to come out about breaking even money wise. If we have learned anything from host-ing the ANAC Conference it is you can't plan to early or over plan anything. It was a lot of work but enjoyablle how-ever we won"t be hosting another conference soon. It is time for the other clubs to step up and take their turn. Everyone should host at least one show.

From your Vice President…...Wendy Mues Bonge
If you build it…
Now there is a phrase with countless possibilities.
I love, Love, LOVE to build things and I’m always patching, drilling and painting.
Besides huge pots, one of my favorite things is to reinforce and refurbish old shelves and cabinets that oth-
ers believe to be worthless. I make them more functional with a little artistic ZING to them. As they say,
“One man’s trash is another man’s…
“If you build it, he will come.”
In the movie, Field of Dreams, staring Kevin Costner, the voice in his head resulted in a ball diamond in
the middle of a cornfield. For McCook Art Guild last year, it was building a pretty COOL Conference at
the most consistent, ‘hot spot’ in Nebraska.
More currently, a group of volunteers have been working hard and have accomplished a great deal for the
2017 Conference in York. We could still use some volunteers in some areas so contact President Pam, to
inquire about our “to do” list.
It is over burdensome if no one steps up to the plate in the field of things to do.
I know this all too well as it was one of the main reasons that AAAC disbanded.
In my frustration in working to keep it together and attempting to build a new club once I had failed to do
so, I may have moaned a bit to a very good friend. Part of the organized, enthusiastic and prolific Sand
Painters, guess what she told me?
“If you build it, they will come.”
OK, something I already knew along with, “If at first you don’t succeed…
Everyone is continually building. Good or bad, we’ve built our character, we’ve built our life, and we’ve
built friendships and relationships in varying amounts. Many of the friends who built ANAC are gone. I do
NOT feel that it would be a worthless attempt for us to work together to reinforce and refurbish our Asso-
ciation.
Remember to contact your area art teachers, recruit new members and get some articles in the papers. It
would also help if ALL club presidents go to their
Chamber of Commerce and keep current contact in-
formation with them. It just makes sense to send
interested artists there for consistency.
If we build ANAC, they will come.
I am excited to be building your art awards, center-
pieces and designing a logo for the Conference. As
for the theme…

GWEN MCKENZIE FELLOWSHIP AWARD INFORMATION
It would be great if more of you worthy ANAC artists out there would consider
applying for this scholarship. Perhaps the reason you haven’t is because the
process seems complicated. So....the committee of five will be updating the ap-
plication form as well as the application process. If you’ve applied, and failed,
try, try again. With the cost of art supplies, all of us could use the dollars this
scholarship provides to attend a viable workshop. Many art clubs hold work-
shops taught by paid instructors during the year: those count. Halsey
counts. ANAC workshops count. So, put an upcoming workshop on your Dream
List and get those recommendations and applications coming our way next
spring.
