The IOM 2010 World Migration Report defines it as the

“Process for integrating migration issues in a balanced manner into the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes in any sphere related to development and poverty reduction.”

Mainstreaming the migration process

to maximize the contributions of migration to development in the Arab region

and

to minimize the potential negative impacts for destination and origin countries, as well as for migrants and their families themselves.

Tunisia - The actors

• It will present measures proved to be effective in fostering inter-ministerial coordination, gaining political support, committing relevant stakeholders and guaranteeing its proper assessment and sustainability

• Several ministries, specialized Gov. agencies, academics, civil society and UNCT

• Best engage nationals living abroad in the development of their country of origin

1st Result : Situation analysis and adoption of a National Action Plan on Migration

2nd Result :  Establishment of institutional mechanisms and participatory processes to support the formulation of the National Action Plan and to ensure consistency and sustainability of M&D policies

3rd Result: Strengthening the capabilities of the stakeholders on the analysis and formulation of policies on migration and development, harnessing the potential of migration to contribute to Tunisia’s social and economic development

Evaluation of the political and institutional setting and its consistency with M&DAnalysis of migration trends and their links to the priorities of development from a gender, age, diversity and human rights perspectiveOrganization of a joint consultation for regional and national authorities, in coordination with the ICMD project partnersPreparing a National Action Plan on M&D involving government institutions, civil society and stakeholders from the private sector (including representatives of the workers and employers’ organizations)Approval of the National Action Plan and its monitoring and evaluation system by the stakeholders involvedA working group on M&D has been created and its members are holding regular meetings in order to develop the National Action Plan on M&DA system of monitoring and evaluating has been set up and is operational. Its task is to assess the capabilities of Tunisia to manage the field of M&D in a consistent and efficient manner

Study on the impact of migration on the migrants' families back home

Primary partners: Office of Tunisians Abroad and Institute of National Statistics

Objectives: Analyze the impact of migration on the lives of migrants’families left behind in areas with large migration flows, which will focus on their health status, their socio-economic situation and their perception of their rights, is conductedProposing a health and socio-economic programme in favour of these families
