A LETTER FROM KIMBERLY MOULEDOUX

It is such an honor to work with both the Children’s Choir and

Adult Choir here at St. Angela Merici. The dedication of both

these groups is amazing. We are truly blessed by their

willingness to serve the church in song for Mass.

We do not earn a trophy to place in a case or a banner to hang

in the gym, but we change hearts. So many times I have been

told by a member of the congregation how a particular piece of

music sung by the choir brought tears to their eyes. This is

because God in the singers connected with God in them. Isn’t

that awesome? Every time we sing, we allow God to use us as His

instrument to reach His people.

The Children’s Choir meets every Wednesday from 3:30pm – 4:30pm in the church. The

members are in 3rd – 7th grade. If you have a child who is interested in singing but does not

attend St. Angela, they can still join. We sing at all the school Masses, and on the second Sunday

of the month during the school year at 9:30a.m. Mass. Our next Mass is Sunday, February 9th.

Both the Children’s Choir and Adult Choir are learning a new song which we sing as the

Recessional on February 9th called “We Are Marching in the Light of Christ.” The Adult Choir is

learning it in four part harmony!

The Adult Choir meets every Tuesday night in the church from 7pm – 8pm. There are some

seasons when we will meet until 8:30pm. This choir is open to all those who are in 8th grade and

older. If you are in High School this is a great way to share your love of music as well as earn

service hours. We sing at every 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and other Masses throughout the year. If

you enjoy singing I encourage you to pray about joining the choir.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining either of these choirs, please feel free to

speak to me after the 9:30am or 11am Mass. Otherwise you can email me at

kmouledoux@st.angelaschool.org.

God Bless- Kimberly Mouledoux

Young at Heart

You are invited to join in the building of our Fifth Annual Parish Family St. Joseph's Altar. The word "build" is the most appropriate word to use because we are building so much more than an altar in honor of St. Joseph. It takes teamwork to build an altar and as we work side by side with friends and family. We are building something much greater than an altar that can be seen with our eyes. We are strengthening friendships and family ties. We are working, listening, laughing, and praying together - building a strong and faithful community honoring St. Joseph - one cookie at a time! A Schedule of Events is available to all in the church hallways. Keep watching our St. Joseph's Altar Corner of the Parish bulletin to learn more about why you will want to become involved in our St. Joseph's Altar Ministry here at St. Angela Merici! If you have any questions, please contact Janet Cruppi at 504-338-2957, or Renee Lauland at 504-371-2101. Did you know… The spiritual benefits received from building an altar are beyond measure. Come join in this labor of love and remember love does not measure, it just gives.

St. Joseph’s Altar Save the Date for our annual Married Couples Dinner scheduled for Saturday, February 8 at 6:30 PM in the Kern Center (gym). Join us for food and fellowship. Call Kay Dornier at (504) 834-4689 or the Church Office at (504) 835-0324 to RSVP. Seating is limited.

Saint of the Week SAINT AGATHA (died 251) Feast Day: February 5 “Of noble birth and great beauty,” so the ancient accounts describe Saint Agatha, martyred during an early persecution for refusing a powerful Roman’s offer of marriage, since she had consecrated her virginity to Christ. An early preacher, Saint Methodius, reflects instead on her name, noting that, in Greek, Agatha means “good,” goodness being something we can all strive for, nobly born or common, blessed with beauty—or not! So brutal the tortures that violated her youthful innocence, Agatha, like Agnes and several other women martyrs, was honored from time immemorial by having her name inscribed in the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I). Long invoked as protector against earthquakes—Mount Etna erupted as she was being tortured—recent attention has focused on the particularly cruel torture decreed for Agatha, the cutting off of her breasts. This has inspired cancer survivors to promote Saint Agatha as patron and intercessor for women courageously facing breast cancer, for their families and the multitude of supporters who participate in fund-raising marches and races, and, of course, for the dedicated researchers who seek a cure. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Pro-Life Ministry SIXTH MONTH AFTER CONCEPTION Your spiritually adopted baby’s development continues to be quite amazing. His or her weight is approaching 2 pounds. At this point, the baby’s eyes are open and can respond to light. Also, eyelashes, eyebrows, and fingernails have grown enough to be easily seen. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. In just three short months, your spiritually adopted baby will be born. Please continue to remember him or her in your daily prayers.

Our annual C.Y.O. retreat was held January 17-19th at Camp Abbey on the Northshore. Twenty-two teens attended the retreat centered on the saints and how to be the saint we are all called to be. Courtney and Brooks Hummel, Nicole Delesdernier, Patrick Willis and Jenna Cavalero served as our retreat team. Each gave meaningful presentations and we are grateful for their willingness to serve our youth. Also included in the week-end was game night with custom created games of Family Feud and Jeopardy and our annual lip-sync battle between table groups. We were blessed to have both Fr. Dan and Fr. Beau on Saturday evening for confession and adoration. Fr. Dan tied the week-end talks into his homily when he came up Sunday morning for our closing Mass. CYO is open to all 8th-12th graders and our next meeting is February 9th at 6:00 p.m.
