ALL SERVICES CPD

City Surveys is one of the UK’s most respected and frequently contracted

structural monitoring, structural investigations, rail engineering and engineering

survey firms.

We are a vibrant, thriving company that challenges your expectation of what an

engineering survey firm can do.

Established in 2003, we have grown and diversified into a highly capable and

experienced ‘all service’ survey firm.

WHO ARE WE?

TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYSWith the latest direct reflex robotic total stations and RTK GPS units, City Surveys can

quickly and accurately produce terrain models of sites deliverable in 2D or 3D and in

any format a designer may require.

These services are provided to clients on the railway infrastructure, airports, MOD sites,

motorways, to the nuclear industry and across the broad spectrum of civil and structural

engineering.

Our deliverables would include all references to our GI work and display all of the

findings of our utilities tracing on clear, easily interpreted drawings.

THE LATEST TECHNOLOGYUsing the very latest in total station technology – most recently the Trimble SCS930 –

our regularly updated fleet of instruments allows operatives to employ a diverse range

of techniques across the broad spectrum of construction and engineering surveying.

Our inventory of total stations and GPS equipment includes...

Trimble SCS930s

Trimble S8s

Trimble 5600s

Leica TM30s

Trimble R8 GPS Receivers

Using the bespoke software and modern, touch screen field computers, data is

stored and verified on site and in real time using measuring equipment with

Bluetooth connectivity.

The result? More efficient survey teams, higher quality drawings and increased

productivity.

Ultimately this can lead to lower prices for our clients.

MEASURED BUILDING SURVEYS

ELEVATIONSUsing either laser-scanning, reflectorless instruments or

advanced photo modelling techniques, detailed building

elevations can be produced to a high degree of accuracy

within a short time frame.

Our clients regularly commission us to produce plans for

everything from private dwellings, modern office buildings

and supermarkets to listed and elaborate church buildings.

Our monitoring services are guaranteed to provide not only peace of mind,

convenience and significant cost savings but also a valuable tool during the

construction process.

Quite simply we can help you to predict certain problems, warn you about them

and assist in preventing situations from becoming critical.

While this reduces costs and time on site, crucially it also reduces risk to your

site, your workforce and the public and structures around you.

MONITORING SERVICES

WHAT CAN WE MONITOR? Tilt

Displacement

Hydraulic pressure

Vibration

Rotational movement

Settlement

Cracking

Temperature

Wind

Cant, twist and settlement of railway track

HOW DO WE DO IT?Should any one sensor go ‘out of bounds’ or, indeed, show an error, an immediate SMS

text alert is sent to any number of designated numbers.

Likewise an email is also sent instantaneously keeping both our engineers and the

client completely informed. Any number of phone/email contacts can be included.

While this system can be installed using a conventional ‘wired’ approach, City Surveys

has invested heavily in creating our own unique wireless devices. In doing so we have

created a monitoring system that is impervious to cable strikes and the everyday

damage that can be inflicted on exposed equipment whilst on site.

REMOTE MONITORINGOur specially constructed transducers can be connected to a range of structures and

emit an analogue signal which, in turn, is converted to a digital signal via a series of

acquisition modules.

The signal is then transmitted automatically via GPRS mobile broadband to our secure,

stand-alone, off-site server.

Our sophisticated electronics are able to receive and transmit up to three readings per

second.

ONLINE DATA MONITORINGWe have invested significantly into developing our own, bespoke monitoring software

that is included free of charge as part of all monitoring projects.

This enables ourselves, our clients and their clients to view up-to-date, real-time data

received directly from the sites without leaving their chair, wherever they might be in the

world.

Our system has been specifically designed to be incredibly user-friendly. As a result, all

interested parties (including insurers and other ‘none technical’ personnel) and not

simply your engineers are able to navigate the Portal with ease...

Simply choose the site you wish to view and be immediately

presented with a live ‘traffic light’ view of your site.

At a glance you are given the current reading and alert status

of each sensor as well as the temperature of the site at that

moment.

Simply click on the sensor icon and have the previous

minute, hour, week or even year’s readings delivered to your

desktop in either graphical or tabular format.

UTILITIES MAPPINGCity Surveys provides a complete utilities mapping service. Working from the initial

desktop study our engineers will scan for utilities using a range of instruments including

RD4000 receivers and a variety of Ground Penetrating Radar systems.

Benefits of utilities mapping include...

Improved work safety and avoidance of potential project delays

Accurate data for planning and design

Greatly reduced risk to buried services

Unnecessary excavation minimised

VACUUM EXCAVATIONVacuum excavation, while well established in mainland Europe and the United States, is

relatively new to the UK being introduced in 2005. Contractors throughout the country

are rapidly starting to appreciate the benefits of this revolutionary service.

Our rigs are totally unique having been custom-built using the very best features from

manufacturers around the world. These machines are unparalleled in the UK. Similarly,

our operators are amongst the most experienced and professional Vac-Ex professionals

in the country.

WHY USE VAC-EX? Reduction in excavation time and thus costs

Significantly reducing excavation size and reinstatement materials

Creating a significantly smaller environmental impact

Potentially eliminating ancillary costs such as traffic management

Minimising risk to excavation teams, the surrounding workforce and pedestrians

CONCRETE SCANNING & TESTING

City Surveys regularly provides a complete concrete scanning & testing service to

engineering clients throughout the UK. Be they flooring slabs or industrial buildings or

the interrogation of concrete structures, our engineers deliver a first-class service with

analytical reports and drawings produced as required.

Working with our partner laboratory we offer a huge array of concrete and construction

materials testing and chemical analysis services.

Determining cover depth, rebar position and diameter

Detecting voids, cables, de-bonding, corrosion or differences in strata

Producing 3D models of reinforcement

Half cell tests, chloride testing, crush hammer testing

Today more than ever the major players in construction and engineering are

focusing on health, safety and managing risk.

So that our clients ensure a positive, safe and legal outcome to their projects, we

deliver a comprehensive ground risk management service that is second to none.

Our clients regularly benefit from our ‘turn-key’ approach to ground investigation,

a service that covers everything from initial investigation to site engineering

services during construction (setting out of earthworks, foundations, formwork

and structures etc).

GROUND INVESTIGATION

SERVICES Geotechnical Engineering

Failure to manage risk on-site by evaluating the ground conditions or the behaviour of materials

poses the single greatest threat to the progression and budget of any project.

Land Contamination Consultancy

Failing to adequately investigate a site’s contamination status can frequently result in hidden costs.

We can help you assess and control contamination, managing your liabilities and fulfilling your

regulatory obligations.

Site Investigation

Desk studies precede cable percussive boreholes, rotary boring, driven window sampler boreholes

and vacuum excavation. Merely a sample of the services we provide, all of these are supported by

our laboratory testing partner.

SITE ENGINEERINGUnlike many survey firms, City Surveys possess the added dimension of a comprehensive Site

Engineers service.

Our specialist teams have extensive experience performing topographical, precise measurement

and dimensional surveys together with the setting-out of piles, buildings and other structures.

Our Engineers can deliver site engineering either in isolation or in conjunction with topographic

land surveying, railway engineering or sub-surface scanning.

Many clients find our ability to combine these different services to be extremely valuable.

Setting Out and Levelling

By using the very latest robotic equipment a one man survey approach can be adopted, saving time

and eliminating errors due to poor communication and keeping rates competitive for our clients.

Monitoring and Deformation Surveys

Regularly involved in groundworks, new builds, road widening, rail renewals and piling contracts, to

each job we bring together a wealth of site engineering experience and geospatial know-how.

Machine Control

Using the latest Trimble SCS900 instruments and SiteVision 3D ‘Dozer systems, City Surveys

regularly provide machine control services to the Rail, Civil, Land Fill and Utilities industries.

City Surveys is a highly experienced, well respected and thriving firm of surveyors

and monitoring engineers operating throughout the UK.

Our unique range of complementary services are guaranteed to provide not only

peace of mind, convenience and significant cost savings but also a valuable tool

during the construction process.

They can be used either in isolation or in conjunction with our wide range of other

engineering survey and investigation services.
