From the Principal's desk

It is so nice to see all our students back at school! The school is very settled and productive. It has been a busy week and all is going very well. It has been lovely to see the children smile and enjoy their time at school once again. We are taking all the necessary precautions to keep the children safe and well. All the school gates are closed except the front gate near the office. This is to stop any unsafe entry into the school. Parents are dropping the students off at the gate to limit adult contact from that point. Please be sure to follow social distancing at that point. There will be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential. The pick-up procedures that have been put into place over the past weeks will remain until further notice. The front gate remains the only point of access to the school. Wherever possible, P&C and parent/carer/teacher meetings should be conducted virtually.

The uniform shop will remain open each day. Please come to the office door and wait behind the red line for the

office staff to organise the purchases.

There has been a lot of work happening around the school, most of this work is now completed. The school is looking fresh and clean. We are planning a Working Bee in a few weeks’ time – keep your eyes open for further details. School attendance

All students should be at school unless:

• They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition. • They are currently unwell (e.g. cold, cough, or runny nose).

If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency

contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office to speak to me or make an appointment for a

meeting.

Book club brochures will be sent home in the next couple of days. You can order online or through the school

office. Eftpos is our preferred method of payment at the moment.

Virtual Chess Club Online—Term 2

Chess Club ONLINE will continue to run on Wednesdays @ 3:15—4:45 via the “Chesskids Online” Platform (Chess

students to visit Chess Club Google Classroom for more information).

This program allows students in our chess club to participate in live online chess games, tournaments and lessons,

as well as have the option to watch games between one another and play other students and schools—genius!

Miss Razmovski monitors the student access and student progress, via the teacher led, safe online platform.

Check out the link for more information.

“Moving the pieces around to make things work’ is what we do best!

Scripture & Ethics

Students will continue to access Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE) classes

online following the full return back to school in Week 5.

Face-to-face SRE and SEE will no be available until social distancing restrictions ease further and allow external

members of the school community to enter school grounds. Any changes will be announced as it comes to hand.

Please visit our Scripture and Ethics page on the HUB for more information and direct links to updated weekly

lessons

EDGE—INTERNET

EDGE INTERNET—Faster, Safer Internet Connectivity for MPS!

Merewether Public School has now transitioned to the new Edge Internet Service as part of the

Telecommunication Strategic Plan 2017-2020 initiative. This much faster and safer internet service will bring an

enhanced user experience to students and teaching staff, with just a minor change to the logon process for

Chromebooks, iPads and non– Windows devices.

All students will be instructed on the new process in class. Please refer to the HUB for more details.

Assessments are to be purchased directly from the ICAS website. Students may choose to sit for as many tests as they like. (Please note: Payment for assessments will not be accepted at the school office). Payments will close on 17th July 2020.

School Pick Up and Drop Offs

To enforce social distancing measures in our school more effectively, we encourage quick pick ups and drop offs in

the mornings and afternoons, where possible. Staggered finish times will assist with inevitable overcrowding

during this part of the day. A staff member will await incoming students from the pedestrian crossing and drop off

bay after which they will be safely ushered to the school gate. Quick drop offs are encouraged. Staggered pick ups

will remain until further notice.
