From the Principal’s Desk
Each year there is a state wide event in schools held in the
first week of August to celebrate NSW Public Education.
Merewether Public School takes time each year to mark
the occasion with our school community to celebrate our commitment to quality education for our students.
The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Every student, every voice’. It is a celebration of student empowerment and
how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice
during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens. Student voice is more than just having a say.
Valuing and actioning the ideas, opinions and expertise of all students has significant impact for student wellbeing.
Working collaboratively with other students and teachers, our young people grow into engaged learners and ethical
citizens able to contribute positively to their school and wider community.
Last night I had the great pleasure of joining our local schools at an Education Week celebration at Newcastle High
School. The event took time to celebrate those nominated by each school as having shown that they have not only
participated in our schools efforts to ensure quality education, but went beyond, in their own way to make a real
difference. Merewether Public School awarded Nancy Donovan for her outstanding contributions to the
Merewether Public School Community; Sharon Connely for her long standing commitment to student learning and
wellbeing; Jessica Thompson for being a caring student who constantly puts time into ensuring that other students
feel supported at Merewether Public School and Katerina Razmovski for her outstanding efforts in driving
Merewether Public School’s ability to teach for tomorrow. It was a wonderful event and I congratulate each for
their award and thank them for their continued and unwavering support of Merewether Public school. There are
many others who are also involved in making our school what it is, to these people I also say thank you. Well done
also to Georgie Anderson who represented the school as one of our school leaders.
Education Week Open Day
It was lovely to see our family and community members this morning enjoying time with the students, teachers,
and seeing the amazing learning that goes on here at Merewether Public School.
School Swimming
Our Whole School Swimming program has commenced.
All the students have been so excited and had a great time at the swimming centre.
Reminder that swimming will be each Wednesday and is a component of the sports program for the term.
Merewether Public School Skoolbag App
Have you updated the new MPS Skoolbag App?
Skoolbag released a new version of the Skoolbag app about a year ago now. To en-sure a smooth transition from the initial school app to the new one, they made both apps available for a short period.
From the 1st August 2019, Skoolbag will be moving the outdated school app. Most of our community have already updated to the new app, however it is important to double check to ensure everyone is in the loop.
