Partnerships

We felt a need to establish partnerships which would enable our students to experience robust learning beyond the class rooms. Our discussions with Agastya Foundation have led to the students of class 8 making monthly trips to their campus. During these trips they discuss topics, based on their science text-books, with help of models and experiments. They get to interact with fresh set of people and also have fun with refreshments on the way back! Agastya Foundation also was a partner to the Moonshot Wheel Exhibition a travelling exhibition which used a specially designed bus to introduce students to the elements of a space mission. Our students visited the exhibition during its stop at Varanasi.

Brief

The challenges of pover t y, l a ck o f l ive l ihood opportunities, poor health and sanitation continue to dog the su r round ing v i l l a g e s. R i gh t education to the children of the village is a much needed imperative. Please stay in touch with us on our website and the face-book page.

Cultural Week

Rajghat Besant School (RBS), our sister school on campus, organized a cultural week – focusing on water - during August. During this week 20 students from APS students joined the RBS students in painting, dances, drama and other events. Other APS students came over to RBS during evenings to savour the performances. The joy and energy these students felt were way beyond what we had envisaged.

The week also brought in bonuses. Mr. Narayan Parsuram of Karadi Tales who was amongst those who visited RBS for sessions then came over to APS as well. The musical story-telling time with him had the students singing and laughing with smiles all over their faces.

Weaving

The looms at our weaving centre, G-Card, at Sarai Mohana village are up and running again after the summer break. We have now opened up weaving for all the students – from classes 5 to 8 – interested to learn. Besides the weaver we now also have a supervisor to assist the students during the afternoon classes 5 days a week.

Swine Flu presentation

Dr. Suresh Saravdekar, Advisor to Rural Centre, presented the students and their parents on the risks of swine flu, prevention methods and precautions. It was well attended and will contribute to the wellbeing o f s tuden t s in the i r l iv ing environment.

Coming months

October has the mid-term examinations followed by the Diwali holidays. The winter sun should then have the students busy with sports.

We are working on significantly improving the computer infrastructure to ensure safe and secure access. We plan to use selected sites of internet to improve learning opportunities.

Library is undergoing a review to make it relevant to children’s learning and also a fun place for group reading activities.

APS school registration work with UP Board is proceeding well and we expect good news on this count soon.

We are keenly exploring alternative vocational opportunities for the students of APS. You can expect to hear more in the coming months.

Krishna Vatika restoration

Play is very important for children. Having a safe and secure place just by the side of school with basic facilities to play together can contribute to physical and cognitive development. The Krishna Vatika facility that was dilapidated for years was restored, repainted and fountains brought back to life. Children love their games and cannot wait to go there.
