21st Century Learning Center (CCLC)

Purpose: To establish or expand after school programs that

provide students with academic enrichment opportunities along

with activities designed to complement the students’

21st CCLC in Douglas CountyGrants are on a three year funding cycle and set to

expire in June of 2014. Reapplication will begin in the fall of 2013.

Douglas County currently has 15 schools operating a 21st CCLC grant.5 elementary schools7 middle schools3 high schools

Awarded over $1.9 million dollars in grant funds for 2013-2014 designated for 21st CCLC program activities

Overview of the Program

Each of the following will occur five days a week:Nutritional SnackHomework assistance/tutoring (between 30 – 40 minutes per

day)

Math, Reading, and Writing Assistance and RemediationStructured Physical Education Character EducationHands on Math, Reading, and Science Enrichment

Centers

All activities are aligned with the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards.

Key Program InformationThe 21st CCLC grant is not a

drop in program.

Program has a limited number of slots.

Enrollment is based on identified academic needs.

All program activities focus on academic support specific to your child.

Staff required to have lesson plans for daily activities.

Program is not a homework only program. Must offer enrichment, tutoring, and social interaction.

Students must attend daily for the duration of the program.

Absences will require a excuse and excessive absences will require a program conference.

A student may be removed from the program for excessive and consecutive absences.

Parent RequirementsThe grant is evaluated on parent participation. Parent support and collaboration is essential to

student success.

Parent Survey provided this evening will help us plan parent sessions this year.

Parents will be required to attend a minimum of 5 parent sessions by the end of the school year.

If five parent meetings are not attended, your child may be removed from the program.

A calendar of activities will be sent home or emailed. These activities will be based on topics you selected on

Registration Information This is a FREE program for qualifying students.

Every child attending must have a current registration form on file each year and registration forms must be kept current at all times.

Each school determines their target grade levels based on school Adequate Yearly Progress Reports (AYP) and state testing results.

Programs must operate a minimum of 12 hours per week when school is in session.

Closed on school holidays, teacher conference days, or early release days for middle and high school.

Programs will notify parents if the program closes due to inclement weather.

Please make sure the program has your current contact information at all times.

Please sign up for “Notify Me” on the school webpage for email and text updates. If the program closes early due to weather or emergencies,

notification will go on the website and phone calls. 18

Transportation Two options: Car rider or

ASP bus

Transportation provided for students if they live in the school attendance zone.

Bus departure time between 5:50-6:00 pm each day

Bus routes take between 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on route

Bus is NOT always same driver or # as school day

Please make sure to be at the bus stop at the designated time. (This will be provided to you prior to the program start date)

Any student brought back to school by the bus will be charged a late pick up fee of $1.00 per minute past 6:00pm.
