BACKGROUND The CHAMPS in Leysin is more than just the oldest snowboard competition in Europe. It’s an ever evolving event concept that encompasses the freestyle lifestyle. Since 1992, the CHAMPS has made some radical turns: • 1992 First ISF European Championships*
• 2003 A founding event on the new TTR (World Snowboard Tour)**
Musical aspect becomes a permanent quality feature
• 2004 Unique Slopestyle course incorporating a Superpipe
• 07-09 Addition of Freeski
• 2011 20th anniversary Addition of Urban Art
• 2013 Addition of a graphic art competition to create the event’s poster

REASONS WHY THE CHAMPS WILL CONTINUE… After 22 years, the CHAMPS is the only (still running) freestyle winter event in the Swiss French Alps. It has been an important source of inspiration and progression for several generations of the freestyle community. ACTION SPORT SCENE • The CHAMPS has always been and still is, an important stepping stone for young riders • Numerous CHAMPS winners became snowboarding CHAMPIONS after winning in Leysin • The only freestyle snow sport event of international level accessible to the Swiss French public WINTER FREESTYLE ACTION IN THE MOUNTAINS • Continued attraction of athletes and public to the original location of Freestyle Snowboarding & Freeskiing • Progression of the sport without loosing touch with it’s origins • Promotion of winter sports to the youth community in a unique freestyle environment

THE NEW CHAMPS 2014 Todays snowsport scene is overloaded with competitions and tends to loose touch with the soul of freestyle. The CHAMPS minimizes the emphasis on ranking points, competition pressure and calendar conflicts and offers a unique event platform centered on the pure enjoyment and of Snowboarding and Freeskiing. A real winter freestyle festival on the mountain with 3 main acts:

Backcountry / In Resort, filming & photo shooting is actually what the athletes enjoy and the public want to see. Natural terrain with spectacular views set the scene for epic high caliber images. The CHAMPS creates an event platform to support movie production possibilities. Locations not limited to classic competition structures.
