Spring and Spring Break is Here

TRANSCRIPT

Page 1: 2012 March-April Issue

It used to be that Spring Break

was only attended by College Stu-

dents but it seems like more and

more High School Students have

joined the ranks of the spring

breakers. Is this a good idea? Some

may argue not for reasons such as

the case of Natalee Holloway or

more recently Britney Drexel have

gone missing and have not yet

been found. This a good reason

for parents of high school students

not to allow their kids to go on

these spring break trips.

Spring breakers have

gotten the reputation for heavy

drinkers and heavy partiers. Even

though you have seen shows like

MTV’s Spring Break, you may

agree. But believe it or not there

are students who enjoy going on

spring break trips to just relax

from high school and take a brief

vacation from their families.

If you’re a high school

student and want to go on spring

break, you should consider some-

thing. It would not be advisable

for students who are not

seniors to go on a spring

break trip. High School

Seniors would not be much

older if they were to attend

College spring break when

they are freshman. But in

lieu of them going on

spring break with other

college students, parents

should try to compromise.

Maybe parents

could offer a weekend away for

them and a few of their friends to

a close by location. Students

younger than college age are not

ready to go on spring break. They

get so wrapped up in having a

good time that they tend to forget

about the important thing like

safety.

Teenagers think that

they are invincible and that noth-

ing is going to happen to them.

They let their guards down and

next thing you know, maybe they

lose their wallets or their pocket-

books get stolen. Safety is a num-

ber one concern of parents of all stu-

dents who go on spring break. Some

high school programs provide a high

school chaperone to take students on a

mini spring break. This may be some-

thing that you can look into and see if

maybe your high school student would

be interested in going.

Talk to the parents of the other stu-

dents that are allowing their kids to go

on spring break trips. Make sure that

they call you home once or twice a day

and that if they encounter any problems

at all that they should talk to the Police

or Hotel Security. It may seem lame to

kids but explain that it is best to be safe

than sorry.

God that he would not destroy the earth with water again like He did with Noah. "And God said: 'This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

What do leprechauns do for a living?

They are cobblers. Legend says that lepre-

chauns are the cobblers (or shoemakers) for

all the fairy folk. They are often depicted

with a leather apron, holding a shoe.

How much gold is in a leprechaun's

stash at the end of the rainbow?

One gold coin for every year of his life.

According to legend, how can you obtain

the leprechaun's pot of gold?

By capturing him and not taking your eyes

off him until you get your gold.

On to a less frightening leprechaun every

American child should know. Lucky, the

cartoon leprechaun, is the mascot for

what children's cereal?

Lucky Charms. As Lucky says in the com-

mercial, "They're magically delicious!"

Finally, what other mythical creature is

often confused with a leprechaun?

The Clurichaun. It is easy to see why the two

are so often confused. Clurichaun are tiny

drunken fairies who often play tricks on

dishonest drunks. However they are not

cobblers, do not have a pot of gold, and can

not grant wishes.

Luck of the Leprechaun: Fun trivia/facts about St. Patrick’s Day

For starters, what is a leprechaun?

A mischievous male fairy of Irish folklore.

Many Irish people dislike leprechauns be-

cause they have come to represent a number

of negative stereotypes about Irish people.

We normally picture leprechauns in

green suits today, but what color did

they wear according to Gaelic tradition?

Red. The color shift seems to have hap-

pened around the turn of the 20th century,

probably due to a growing association with

Irish people and the color green, but older

works of poetry and story always depict the

leprechaun as wearing a red waistcoat. Some

believe that solitary leprechauns wear red

coats, while leprechauns who live in colonies

wear green.

News you can use!

Spring is a time of

year that signifies change, renewal, and

new beginnings. Since the beginning

of this year, Underclassmen you have
