The 2 Day Workshops usually run on Saturday and Sunday (unless otherwise stated) from 9am to 4pm. Prices are for tutoring only, participants supply their own materials according to a list supplied to us by the tutor.
Other art classes at Murray’s Art and Framing include Playing at Art Saturdays and midweek, daytime or evening courses. To book a workshop or class, call in or contact us via email or phone. Payments can be made in store or credit card over the phone.

Colour Pencil Techniques with Jan Lawnikanis
You will learn how to use coloured pencils as a fine art medium by layering, blending, burnishing and underpainting to achieve realistic results. You will see examples by master artists and learn
about their techniques, tools and materials and where to access ongoing information and instruction. Come and find out what makes coloured pencils such an exciting and versatile

Printing with Maryika Welter
We will explore the ins and outs of printmaking in a step by step manner building confidence, skills and knowledge. Featuring lino on the first day, you will be given the opportunity to create your own design and print several images. The workshop will include hands on activities
to help understand some principles and practical applications as well as incorporating some demonstrations. I hope to cover a broad range of printing types without using a press.

Explore, Experiment & Create in Watercolour with Marianne de Graaf
This workshop is all about techniques. You will be introduced to a variety of ways of working with the watercolour paint and the all important water element, through doing exercises. These
exercises can then be filed, so that you can use them as references for the future. These basic techniques will be included in several small paintings throughout the weekend. Come and learn

Introduction to Traditional Oil Painting Techniques 2 with Catherine Ketton
We will approach traditional methods of oil painting through a simple flower painting. Beginning with the transfer of image on to canvas with charcoal, we will progress to the first layer of raw
umber to establish tone, then building colour in thin layers. This workshop is suitable for beginning artists, or those who are new to oil paint. For those who attended the introduction workshop in
March, this second workshop will offer the opportunity to consolidate and extend. Saturday & Sunday, 26,27 October 9am to 4pm

Funtastic Acrylics with Jenny Kelly
This workshop will introduce fellow artists to some creative and fun acrylics methods. Be prepared to scrape, spray, fling, throw, roll and glaze PAINT. In other words - "PLAY WITH ACRYLICS"! You
will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of Acrylics and a new found confidence.

Italic Calligraphy with Susan Bradshaw Within this course, you will be introduced to Italics and it’s origins, while learning
how to write alphabets in lower case and capitals. Within these weeks, the technical elements of using nibs and ink will be covered in detail. This will lead into practising words (names, plants, towns, etc) in the this font, before finishing the course by creating an artwork featuring a quote of your choice, using flourishes and other variations.

Drawing with Colour with Sue McMaster
This course will give participants the opportunity to expand their basic drawing skills by including the use of colour. You will be introduced to a range of drawing media, such as pastels, colour & watercolour pencils. These mediums will be used for drawing and sketching, not to create finished ‘paintings’. This course will lead you to advanced drawing techniques and may transition

Alcohol Inks with Rosemary Mibus
This workshop will introduce you to the exciting medium of alcohol inks. Everyone will be able to achieve visually interesting and fun artworks. Be prepared to learn techniques of various kinds that you will use when you continue to play at home. Enjoy happy accidents and the organic
mixing of colours. With these inks, strange, but fascinating things are possible.

Landscapes—Watercolour with Roslyn Hartwig
From the mountains to the coast, landscapes of many types will be painted in this course. Starting with warm-up exercises, we will then explore a different terrain each day.
During this process, there will be teaching about techniques and composition. Always there will be step by step demonstrations to guide you through the day’s subject.
Come willing to learn and to have fun. Wednesday evenings: 8 May—27 June (6-9pm) Thursday mornings: 9 May—28 June (9.30-12.30)

101 Mat Cutting
Are you wanting to save money by assembling your own frames, but still
wanting to keep the quality good? Come into our framing workshop and have a go at cutting a mat and putting a piece of artwork together ready for
framing. Our staff can instruct you on use of a hand mat cutter and will also demonstrate the CNC (robot) mat cutter. We will show you the correct way to mount your work and prepare it for
framing while learning about the archival materials to use. Within this workshop also, there will be tips on choosing colours and how to decide on the best proportions of the mat size.

Colour Pencils for Beginners
This is a ’have a go’ workshop with the wonderful medium of pencils with colour. Learn the difference between using the pencils that you used at
school and the Artist quality pencils that are Prismacolor and Polychromos. You will experience layering, blending and much more. If this is not enough, Gail will also guide you into various ways
of working with water-soluble colour pencils, such as Albrecht Durer, Inktense and Graphitints. You will be able to get a taste of the variety available, while creating a one or more small images
for yourself. Just bring yourself, a friend and a readiness to enjoy a new experience.

Alcohol Inks
This is a explore, create and enjoy the magic of Alcohol Ink!
You will learn how to flow, drop and blend the inks to produce wonderful artwork. Come along and find out some techniques to use with this amazingly versatile medium. You will create several works and have many tips and tricks
to keep on painting at home. From fine art to free flowing abstracts, alcohol inks can do it all.

‘A Painting Adventure’ - Art parties for Groups & Team building
No experience in painting is necessary, only a healthy curiosity and a couple of hours to actively play and have some fun….
This adventure opens the doors to self expression, collaboration and creativity while learning about yourself and others in a group environment. During the session,
there will opportunity to develop communication skills through story telling in a safe and supportive environment.
So, gather a group of your work colleagues or closest friends for… A Team Building Session, Birthday Party, or any other occasion or event that may require something different from the norm.

Spring has sprung. In theses classes, the children will be working with collage, lots of painting,
a bit of printmaking and more. Even better, there will be opportunity to work on their own projects with guidance from Sue.

Mother & Child Clay Play
Come and play and learn all at once. Using air drying clay (which means no kiln required), Mum and son/daughter will enjoy exploring textures and
shapes. Firstly, there will be coil making to form a pot which could then, once dry, be used for a plant. And then, as something a little more relaxed, shaping the clay to make a head that may or
may not, end up as a gargoyle, monster or other form from your imagination. Within this play day, you and your child will learn techniques that can be applied at home as well. Give your Mum a Mother’s Day present that is unexpected, unique and fun.

Colour Explorations Watercolour with Roslyn Hartwig
In this course, we will be exploring colour and how to use it to create impact, interest and mood in paintings. Warm/cool; colour mixing—greens, greys and more; complimentary/analogous
colour schemes; colour value/tone—these and more will be explained and used in a series of exercises and small paintings. If the whole ‘colour thing’ has always confused you, come along and

Figurative Drawing with Sue McMaster
This short course looks at how to start drawing the human form. We will have some fun doing quick sketching from life while we will look at proportions, perspective, making the most
of light and shadow and of course the face. We will be using a mixture of live and photographic sources. Those with an interest in animals are welcome to focus on their furry friends too!
