and join in the Costume Parade. The

Costume Parade will take place after the

Pet Parade.

Murrindindi Kids

Free Kid’s Activities

Mount Cathedral Community Baptist Church

Fun activities for active kids around the ages of 8 – 14 year old.

Plenty of games, movement, fun and laughter for kids while parents are sit-ting down, having a bite to eat and tak-ing a breath. There will be a range of activities so come drop in and see what’s up next.

Yarck Wool Spinners

The Yarck wool spinners will be teach-

ing children and adults to:

Spin different types of wool

French knit

Make pompoms

Basic knitting

Explain and show from animal to

animal fleece

Spinning to plying then knitting-

including finished products.

Alpaca Display -Junior Handling

Demonstration

Ever wondered how to handle an alpaca

for showing? Why not stop by the

Alpaca Display and have all your

Alpaca questions answered.

Emergency Services Display

The Alexandra CFA and SES units will

be on display. Located next to the horse

arena.

Free Kid’s Activities

Choco the Milking Cow-

Milking on the Move Interactive demonstration

Choco and the team from ‘Animals on the Move’ will be visiting us on show day!

The young and young at heart will have the opportunity to learn how to milk a cow and make butter!

Children will have the opportunity to learn how grass becomes milk and have a go at making butter and cream.

Why not stop by and say hello to Choco?

Animal Nursery

The animal nursery is a popular activity for all ages. The animal nursery will be under the oak tree, in front of the ladies pavilion.

Balloonatic Bruce

Bruce will be roving around on show day ready to create balloon magic.

3. All horses in breed classes must be registered with appropriate breed societies, owners to be current financial members. 4. In ring one, two and three a competitor who wins an Open or Show Hunter Championship is ineligible to enter the equivalent classes in the other rings. 5. Enter in either Hunter Classes or Open, not both. 6. All stallions must wear a bit in their mouth and are only to be exhibited (ridden & led) by exhibitors 18 years and over. 7. Approved helmets must be worn by all competitors. If a competitor enters the arena without a helmet, they will be asked to dismount immediately. This is the rule of Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd. It is compulsory for everyone competing on a horse working, schooling, riding or for any other reason at a show or in any area con- sidered to be part of the show grounds. (Rule applies to all VAS Affiliated Agricultural Societies 8. The judge’s decision shall be final. In any class, it will be left to the judge’s discretion to award a First Prize or to split or amalgamate classes. 9. The committee reserves the right to alter or cancel any event. 10. Definition of terms: A) Local – to reside within 25km of the Alexandra Post Office and open to Open and Hunter horses B) First season exhibit – not to be shown prior to 1st January 2017 C) Novice – never to have won a First Prize at any registered Agricultural Show.

1. All entries and associated fees are taken at the Caravan at the arena gate on show day.

2. Entries will not be accepted unless the entry form has been completed and signed by the exhibitor.

Rules & Regulations

1. All riders to wear Australian Standard Approved helmets and boots at all times when mounted.

2. Random drug testing may be carried out under V.A.S.L. and E.F.A Rules. The use of tranquillisers, stimulants, or any drugs capable of affecting the performance or behaviour of animals is forbidden. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the show and that testing of all animals is at the owner’s risk. Testing for forbidden substances will be carried out under veterinary supervision.

10. The Association will not be respon-sible for any accidents that may be caused through or by any exhibits and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the association blame-less and indemnified against any legal proceedings arising from such accidents.

11. The Association will not under any cir-cumstances hold itself liable for any acci-dents on grounds or premises.

12. The Association will not under any cir-cumstances, hold itself responsible for any damage to, or misdelivery of any exhibits.

13. All protests must be lodged in writing by 12 noon on Saturday, accompanied by deposit of $50.00 which may be forfeited if protest is found to be frivolous.

14. The Protest Committee will deal with all protests at once, but may adjourn the matter if outside evidence is required. All interested parties must appear before the committee if so required.

15. Awards may be withheld at any time. 16. The committee reserves the right of

refusing or cancelling any entry without giving a reason for so doing.

17. Stewardesses are eligible to enter in sections where they are on duty but their work must be in their right sections by either Wednesday 6pm, Thursday 6pm or Friday 9.00am.

18. If any complaint is made or if the steward-esses think fit, a statutory declaration may be demanded from any exhibitor regarding the ownership or age of any exhibit, or eligibility of same. If the owner refuses to comply the exhibit will be dis-qualified.

19. Nothing over (2) two years old can be entered in any class.

20. Only (2) two entries per person per class allowed.

Rules and Regulations

1. All EXHIBITS must be the BONA FIDE PROPERTY of, and all produce must be grown or manufactured by the exhibitor. Joint exhibits must be jointly owned. Any garment in Handcraft Section must not be washed, worn or dry cleaned.

2. Entries must be made in writing on form supplied by the association and must be in the hands of pavilion secretary by the time specified in the rules. Handcrafts & Pho-tography, to be in by Wednesday 8th at 6.pm, Woodwork & Cooking to be in by Thursday 9th at 6.pm. Other sections, Horticulture, Fruit & Vegetables and Eggs to be staged by 10.30am on Friday 10th.

3. The Judges may award special prizes for exhibits which they consider worthy and for which no class is provided. They may also use their own discretion as to whether first, second or any prize shall be awarded in any class.

4. The president, secretary/treasurer and head stewardess of class in question are able to make extra classes where deemed necessary. If head stewardess is unavailable one other stewardess from section will be able to cover any decision.

5. Any stewardess interfering in any way with the judges shall be held to have com-mitted a breach of the rules and regulations.

6. Only such persons as the stewardesses authorised will be allowed to enter the pavilion during the judging hours.

7. All prize winning cards will be attached to the winning exhibits prior to exhibition.

8. No exhibits may be removed from the pavilion before 4.00pm on Show Day or unless Show Day dictates.

9. Special exhibits will be subject to Rules and Regulations save that exhibits may be shown for the special prizes for its sec-tion.

An exhibitor having won at a show, will bake another cake for entry in the Group Final: the winner will then be required to bake a further cake for the State Final at the next Royal Melbourne Show. An exhibitor having won at Show Level is not eligible to enter any other Show until after the Group judging, when, if not the winning entry, can compete further, an exhibitor is only eligible to represent one Group in the State final. An exhibitor having won at Group Level cannot compete further until after the Royal Melbourne Show. Each cake entered must be the bona fide work of the exhibitor. CARROT CAKE: Exhibitor to use own recipe and must supply a copy of the recipe with the cake and use no less than 350g of grated carrots and bake in a 20cm round tin. RICH FRUIT CAKE RECIPE: 250g (8oz) sultanas, 250g (8oz) raisins, 250g (8oz) currants, 125g (4oz) mixed peel, 90g (3oz) of red glace cherries, 90g (3oz) of chopped blanched almonds, ⅓ cup sherry or brandy, 250g (8oz) plain flour, 60g (2oz) self-raising flour, ½ teaspoon ground cloves, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, ¼ teaspoon grated nut-meg, 250g (8oz) butter, 250g (8oz) soft brown sugar, ½ teaspoon lemon essence or grated lemon rind, ½ teaspoon al-mond essence, ½ teaspoon vanilla, 4 large eggs. METHOD: Mix together all the fruit and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flour and spices, cream together butter, sugar with essences. Add eggs one at a time, beat well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixture. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place mixture into a prepared 20cm (8'') square tin, straight sided, square cornered tin (no rounded corners) and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3½ to 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin. All fruit to be chopped uniform sizes, to ensure uniformity and depend-ing upon the size, it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4-6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3-4 pieces.

CARROT & DATE MUFFINS

2½ cups self raising flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed), ⅓ cup pitted dates, 1 cup coarsely grated carrot, 1 tablespoon orange marmalade, 1 cup canola oil, 2 eggs, lightly beaten, ¾ cup orange juice, 1 cup reduced fat milk

METHOD:

Heat oven 190ºC (moderately hot). Line a 12 hole muffin tin with large paper cases, classic white muffin cases, size 35mmH x 90mmW x 50mm Base.

Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl, stir in dates & carrots. Add combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice & milk. Mix until just combined.

Spoon mixture evenly in cases. Cook for 20 minutes or until skewer comes out clean.

Stand muffins in pan for 5 minutes then turn out to cool.

10 TO 13 YEARS

JUNIOR BOILED FRUIT CAKE RECIPE

375g (12oz) mixed Fruit, ¾ cup brown sugar , 1 teaspoon mixed spice , ½ cup water, 125g (4oz) butter, ½ teaspoon bicarbonate soda, ½ cup sherry, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons marmalade, 1 cup self raising flour, 1 cup plain flour, ¼ teaspoon salt

METHOD:

1. Place the mixed fruit, sugar, spice,

water and butter in a large sauce

pan and bring to the boil.

2. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, then

remove from stove, add bi-carb and

allow to cool.

3. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade,

mixing well.

4. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients

then place in a greased and lined

20cm (8'') round cake tin.

5. Bake in a moderately slow oven for

1½ hours, or until cooked when

tested.
