Clock System

In BS8700, the CC board generates and distributes the clock. Theclock source falls into the following types:

 Embedded GPS receiver

 External GPS/Galileo/BeiDou receiver

 BITS-2MHz clock

BITS-2Mbps clock (introduced through the 8th E1/T1 on SAboard)

 E1/T1 line clock

CC distributes two groups of clocks, 61.44 MHz clock and FR (10ms)/FN clock, simultaneously and distributes to the boards via thebackplane, to meet the requirements of GSM/UMTS respectively.

Inner Communication Network

The BS8700 system contains two switching networks.

IP signaling stream and media flow switching network: Itsswitching plane is the Ethernet switching module on the CCboard.

IQ data switching network: Its switching plane is the IQ switch-ing module on the FS board.

The communication between boards uses the IP signaling flow andmedia flow switching network.

software that runs on the boards and the background softwarerefers to the NM software.

ForegroundSoftware

The foreground software exists in the form of the packet, whichcan be downloaded to the main control board through the NM soft-ware. The main control board distributes the foreground softwareto other boards and then the software starts to run.

BackgroundSoftware

The background software includes OMC and LMT. The OMC per-forms the remote operation and maintenance on the system, whilethe LMT performs the local operation and maintenance on the sys-tem.

NetNumen™ M31 is the registered trade mark of the OMC soft-ware. NetNumen™ M31 can perform the management, operation, and maintenance on all models of GSM/WCDMA BSs, includingBS8700.

Related NMS Software

LMT Software

LMT Software Local maintenance terminal (LMT) is the NM tool to perform theoperation and maintenance on a single BTS.

The LMT software includes the following functional modules:

 Configuration management

 Fault management

 Performance management

 Diagnostic test

 Other assistant functions

ApplicationScenarios

On-site commissioning and debugging by engineering person-nel

 Routine site maintenance

NetNumen™ M31 Software

Overview NetNumen™ M31 radio access network integrated NMS (NetNu-men™ M31 or integrated NM in short) is the system between thelower-level NM and upper-layer operation supporting system. Net-Numen M31 enables the users to manage the network by consid-ering the global network at the same time. It supports centralizedmanagement of all professional networks provided by the oper-ators. Through the interface to all professional NMs, NetNumenM31 can manage the professional networks in the manner of cen-tralized network topo, centralized alarm, and centralized perfor-mance, changed from the former scattered management mode.Meanwhile, NetNumen M31 provides a uniform interface for theupper-layer application system.

Chapter 2 System Description

NetNumen M31 adopts the technology totally facing the objects. Its design is based on the advanced J2EE platform. NetNumen 31realizes the integrated access of all NE devices that are manufac-tured by ZTE Corporation. It supports centralized alarm manage-ment and centralized performance management on NE, and fulfillsthe function of cross-NE performance data analysis.

Compared with NE-level NM, the advantages of the radio networkcentralized NM are:

It focuses on the fault management, performance statistics andconfiguration management in the whole network

It provides a broader management scope with the capability ofmanaging both devices of ZTE and third-party devices

Features NetNumen™ M31 has a Client/Server architecture. The ap-plication server connects to the radio network subsystem andmeets various application requirements. The client only pro-vides an interface for the operator to input operation instruc-tions and view the result.

The server can run on the Unix or Windows operating system. It supports the application of Oracle database, meeting theperformance requirement during the operation of the system.

The system software has a modularized structure, providinga good scalability for the system. The software modulescan be distributed on different computers according to theactual requirement to improve the processing capacity of thesystem. The system supports distributed deployment, whichbrings convenience in constructing a management network ona large-scale site.

The overall structure of the system is designed in compliancewith the framework of Telecommunication Management Net-work (TMN) specified by ITU-T.

The system supports the centralized maintenance and man-agement of various radio network subsystems, includingWCDMA, TD-SCDMA and GSM radio networks. Accordingly, the NEs that can be maintained and managed by the systeminclude: RNC and Node B in WCDMA networks, RNC and NodeB in TD-SCDMA networks, as well as BSC and BTS in GSMnetworks. It supports the access of up to 40 equivalent NEs.

Designed according to TMN specifications of ITU-T and relatedspecifications of 3GPP, the system provides more value-addedapplications besides the basic management functions. All thefunctions are organized around the core of managed objects. And various supplementary management tools are provided forassistance.

The system provides both GUI and command line interface. Itsupports MML commands.

The system provides network topological graphs for monitor-ing the running status of the whole network in an intuitive way.The network topological graphs can be organized on differentlevels, such as global topological graph, and local topologicalgraph. The system can not only show the alarms in the wholenetwork in a centralized way, but also indicate the alarms onthe topological graph and corresponding rack map in real time.It prompts the alarms at different severity levels through dif-ferent sounds and colors. The system also supports the cen-
