On the afternoon of October 2nd 2009, I watched theNDP celebration and Mid Autumn festival with my friends.

helping us to celebrate the holiday. I was veryimpressed.

Towards the end of the performances, theteachers came up to us with moon cakes and

fruits. Everyone ate the cakes and watched theperformances. The overall mood was veryexciting.

I think the performances were a success and Itwas also a very memorable day for me.

When the performances began, everyone wasfeeling very good as the atmosphere waselectric and the overall scene was lively. Theprogram was very interesting and everyoneenjoyed the musical performances and we all

clapped and laughed with the crowd.

During the celebration, the highlight for me waswhen I watched the wonderful performances bythe foreign students. It felt as though they were

I never thought that the 10th of October would be such a special day. Theinitial plan was to head down to Sentosa to show the new students aroundSingapore but at the last minute, there was a change of plans.

Delia and I felt very sad because ithad been 4 months since we lastwent to Sentosa. There were 7 of us sitting at the lobby of ourschool and we were thinking of alternative plans. Finally we madeup our minds and decided to go toSentosa. I could see the joy onDelia's face when the plan was

confirmed.

When we arrived at the Vivo City,Our student care leader, Ms Mayand other members had beenwaiting for us for a while. We had adiscussion together and everyonefound out that I was born inOctober. May decided that we hadto go to Sentosa to celebrate mybirthday. We played games, I wentswimming and for that moment wewere all so happy.

We saw several famous buildings and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We all sat down together after participating in the songs game and 007games. As “Auntie” Zhong and I performed badly during the games, we had to accept a forfeit. We had to find hidden treasures in the sea.After a while we gave up and we joked and sat around.

When the sun had set, we began to prepare for the party. I was drenched because before the party, I had been thrown into the water by Xujieand Allen several times. During the party, I felt very happy as I blew out the candles because I'd never had thought that I would make so manyfriends when I enrolled into Shelton College International. I will never forget the feeling of my birthday celebration, including the aches I feltthe next day because of being thrown into the sea so many times.

for those students whose birthdays fall on a specificmonth. In the month of October 2009, the partywas held on the 23rd . I am one of the students who

participated in that celebration.

We had a BBQ on that day. I would like tothank the staff who work in the schools cafeand also to the members of SCISO.Everything was prepared perfectly. All wehad to do was to enjoy the party. It was myfirst BBQ ever and when I was cooking, Idid over cook some of the food but I ate itwilling to avoid any wastage. At the end of the party we also had a delicious cake to

eat. Certainly the party turned out to be asuccess.

For me personally, it was unforgettable. My

and it said “ My dear daughter, It is yourfathers wish that you will always remain thehappiest person in the world”. I replied tohim saying that at that exact moment I wasthe happiest person around because of

my parents.

To tell you the truth, I have no reason notto be glad because of my parents, myschool mates and my good friend Bibi.Bibi is a bubbly girl who is a good friend of mine. On the day of the party, she boughtme a durian cake, After the party, the bothof us went outside to look for a quiet placeto sit and enjoy the delicious cake.Although I was quite stuffed already, Ididn't hesitate the eat the cake because itwas a token of her friendship, which issomething I will always treasure.

Finally I would like to the everyone whoparticipated in the party and to those whomade it all worth while. Thank You!

ID card shows that I am born on the 13th of October. As a matter of fact, my birthdayon the lunar calender falls on the 23rd of October and to my surprise, the birthdaygathering took place on that very same day.It was a nice coincidence for me. This wasthe first birthday I celebrated overseas. Iwas very happy because I turned 18 on thatday, which means that I have to me more

responsible now as I am an adult. I am moreresponsible now and I cannot depend toomuch on my parents anymore. I am gladbecause my father had sent me a message

Before the party began, Our SCISOmember were busy decorating for thestart of the party. Everyone was workinghard as we all know the feeling of celebrating a birthday alone in a foreign

country. In Shelton we can always feel loveand friendship everywhere. We wanted tomake everyone feel as though they wereat home.

I have been in Singapore for only twentyplus days but in my time that I've spenthere, I noticed that everyone is kind and ithas a homely feeling to it. The Octoberbirthday was my first and I was reallylooking forward to participating in it.There were fruits, chicken wings,potatoes, corn and a lot of other dishes

on the menu and once we all saw thefood, we knew that the party had started.

The staff at Shelton organized a birthday party for all of theOctober babies and the best part is, its a free party for all thosewho were celebrating it.

Everyone was excited and we hurried to get the barbecue going. We were all soaked in sweat as we continued to barbecue the foodand it felt great. There was a lot of laughter and joy new the BBQ pit.

The atmosphere was like the weather, hot and fiery. It was bustling with noise and excitement. We could all feel the happiness andfriendship everywhere we looked. No sorrow, just pure fun.

Students were busy barbecuing the food and sharing it with each other. I was on of the beneficiaries. It was a great moment for meas I enjoy the hot food under the hot sun. After the feast, I was content.

Chen Si Yu, who is my best friend, was also celebrating her birthday on that day. I was very excited for her. Although she couldn't notcelebrate it with her family, she received a lot of well wishes from Shelton's students. We gave her a birthday cake and several gifts.Indeed it was a memorable day for me.

also had a lot of friends from differentcountries; it’s been a fantastic time for me

o study a Shelton College International.

After finish my Diploma in Travel, Tourismand Hospitality, I served my internship atAgave Cerveza Margaritas. It is a Mexicanestaurant bar. In Singapore, it is very hardo find Mexican food, so a lot of customers

still do not know what kind of Mexicanhere are. When customers come and tryhe food, they like it and always return

again few days later with their friends.Some of our customers are from US and

said our food is like those they have inMexico. The working environment is

good, because I am one of the senior floorstaff. The supervisors teach me a lot of things. He told me that I had to knowwhere all the beer come from and how tomake a good cocktail.

All the teachers in Shelton are kind andalways try to make their studentsunderstand their studies well. Thisinternship have trained me to be morematured in handling different situationsand look at things in another perspective

Thanks to shelton for giving me thisopportunity to learn! After this internship

end, I will study another programme toimprove my skill.

To all my friends and other students, do notwaste your time because time movequicker than you can imagine and it willnever go backwards, not even for 1 second.So do take all your subjects and priorityseriously, get the best result and because agood person to make your parents proudof you.

Vanessa’s Story Vanessa

My name is Vanessa and I’m a Singaporean.

Before my internship, I was studying Diploma in MassCommunications in Shelton.

Vanessa

I am currently interning in CollagenScience- a company that specializes inthe import, export and distribution of European cosmetics and Slimmingequipment. It also has it’s own spaproviding facial and body treatments.

During my training with CollagenScience, I was taught customer serviceskills as well as entrepreneurship skills.

The Director of Collagen Science waskind enough to teach me some rules andtraits of operating a successful businessboth in and out of Singapore.

I was first assigned to basic tasks likeadministrative tasks, suggesting ideas forthe company website and providingcreative input in advertisements andcopywriting. In a month I progressed tomaking my own decisions on the choiceof advertising mediums like Google,Yahoo, Leaflets and Taxi Stand shelters. Iwas also handed the task to revamp the

whole company website. During thisperiod, I worked with both the graphicdesigner in my company and a freelance

one. Both who taught me some basicediting skills and provided me with adeeper insight into attracting peoplewith advertisements.

I then progressed to marketing theproducts and services both in and out of Singapore. Currently, I am dipping my

fingers into event planning and am alsoabout to start a new project on an onlinestore.

During my course of study in Shelton, I wastaught many important life skills along withthe science of mass communications. As ourlecturers have had prior experience in themedia industry along with the knowledge, Iwas able to learn from their experiences. Thismade our lessons more interesting and

relevant to me. My lecturers were also alwaysavailable to answer my questions and guideme from my mistakes. The assignments andprojects given also helped me come up withinnovative and creative ideas to benefit thecompany I am working for.

The writing opportunity Shelton gave me alsohelped me in my copywriting tasks. I was ableto put the theory I learnt into practice.

Before my interview, Rachel, Shelton’s IAin-charge, briefed me a little of the company’sprofile while giving me some tips to ace the

interview. I was advised on what to wear andsay. During my Internship, Shelton called meoften to check on my progress with thecompany and also to find out aboutthe newexperiences and lessons I learnt whileworking.

My Plan after I finish my Internship is tocontinue with my Advance diploma in MassCommunications at Shelton. My advise forstudents would be to be confident abouttheir knowledge and talents. Also, if facedwith something new, they should ask their

superiors or do a quick research online.Before pitching any new creative ideas, weighout the pros and cons before pitching it totheir superiors.
