Curriculum Organisation

• Presently, there are 216 Year 7 students enrolled• Arranged into 7 classes for MESH subjects• 25 periods per week / 5 X 64min periods per day• 6 periods in a combination Technologies / The Arts /

COPE, or specialist programs (Sets of 2 Periods each)• 4 periods each in Maths, Science, English and HASS• 2 periods in Physical Education • 1 period in Health Education

• The teaching and learning program for Year 7 is a based on the West Australian Curriculum

• During Year 7 & 8, students will have MESH subjects, compulsory subjects and a range of arts and technology classes

• This prepares them for Year 9 and 10 when they select options based on their talents and interests

Reporting• All parents can monitor their child’s progress through

CONNECT. You can see how their achievement in every assessment and how they are going in relation to the rest of the cohort.

• Task Reports – these are sent to parents by teachers to provide feedback on how they have gone in an individual assessment.

• Feedback – You will receive feedback about how your child is progressing through scores and marks, comments and ABE scales.

• Semester Reports will be sent to you electronically through your CONNECT link and feature a grade and an ABE scale.

The Grade describes the student’s achievement against the Grade Descriptor for the Year Level.

The ABE scale, Attitude, Behaviour and Effort, indicates how they have worked and applied themselves.

A ‘C’ Grade indicates your child is achieving at the expected level for their age group.

‘Big Days in’ 2019The Year 7 Transition Program ‘Big Days In’ is designed to address a number of key areas at this important time. These are aims of these days :• Peer bonding among students from a diverse

• Ocean Reef SHS (ORSHS) has the longest running Surf Life Saving Cadet (SLSC) group in Australia.

Studies show that regular attendance is one of the highest contributing factors to high academic achievement

Missing one day a week adds up to missing more than one whole year out of the 6 years at ORSHS

Aim for 100% attendance, every day counts.
