THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE FROM PASTOR ERIC

It’s great to be back at Gospel Light! Praise the Lord! Teen Revolution in Gatlinburg was amazing, and I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of the highlights this morning. I’m excited about what God is doing. I love our church. In America, we live in a country where the majority of churches have either plateaued, they’re dying, or they’re already dead. And the reason so many churches are declining is that their pews are filled with semi- or non-committed believers. I want to ask you today, Gospel Light, “Are you truly committed to Christ? Does He have 100% of your life?” You know our commitment to Christ is similar to our commitment to our spouse. No one would honestly say to their husband or wife, “You know, honey, I love you; I love you so much that I’m going to commit to staying 98% faithful to you in our marriage.” I know my wife would not go for that, but how many of us say the same thing to the Lord each day in how we live our lives? So many Christians today pick and choose which commandments of the Lord they want to obey. The true commitment to the Lord is complete and total or it’s none at all. Remember what I John 2:3 says, “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” Not just some of His commandments but all of them. Today I want to challenge you to show the world your commitment to Christ by obeying God in your thought life, in the way you react to your spouse and children, in your business affairs, in your finances, and in every part of your life. True commitment to the Lord is complete and total or it’s none at all. If there’s anything I can pray with you about, please let me know. I love you. Pastor Eric

    EVANGELISM THOUGHTS FROM PASTOR MATT

PRAY FOR THE PASTORS OFHOT SPRINGS

This week we are praying for First Lutheran Church and Pastor Jon Beyer. Pastor Jon is a friend of the ministry. We are thankful for the blessing he is to our city and ministry. Pray for the requests of his family and church.

Day 1:  Pray for safety, provision, and favor for Pastor Jon as he goes on a mission trip to Uganda and Kenya with Pastor Greg from Lakepointe to train pastors, evangelize, and prepare for a crusade for next year.Day 2: Pray for our VBS. Pray for all who serve and for all the children who come to grow in their faith in Christ and learn how to conquer challenges with God’s mighty power which is this year’s VBS theme.Day 3: Pray for the Samaritan’s Feet Event we are helping to sponsor at Langston School on August 15. We are giving away free shoes, socks and backpacks to children ages 5-12.  Pray that the children will be blessed and receive the love of Christ that we give.Day 4: Pray for the growing unity in our church and among the churches of this city as we love each other and work together for the glory of God and the expansion of His kingdom.Day 5: Pray for continued financial provision from God through His people so that there may be abundance for the ministry He is calling us to do in these days.Day 6:  Pray for God to give us an increase in boldness and courage in sharing our faith and in living out our faith in these days so more and more people may be rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ!

    PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONARIES

Our prayer focus for this week is Elsen and Michelle Portugal serving in Brazil. Drop the Portugal’s an email at [email protected]

Day 1 – Pray for Elsen’s mom who is in ICU in a septic coma.  She is 87 and practically immobilized.

Day 2 – On the 1st of August, the Portugal’s will have celebrated their 30th anniversary at the church (actual marriage date is Aug. 2). Their celebration will be in conjunction with a monthly couples’ meeting at the church and has been organized to encourage other couples to be faithful to each other. Pray that God will use this moment for this reason.

Day 3 – Praise the Lord for 30 years of marriage so far and for the strength God has given the Portugal’s through good and bad days.

Day 4 – Pray for the Portugal’s children (Virginia, Sarah, Joshua, and Hannah) and their families to have wisdom and a commitment to the Lord.

Day 5 – In preparation for more involvement in different projects next year, the Portugal’s need to raise an additional $500 a month. Pray for financial partners for this need until the beginning of the year.

Day 6 – Pray for an upcoming trip to Germany to review ministry, friends, and supporting churches in September.

Psalm 23 is one of my favorite passages. It is beautifully written. It is probably one of the most well-known, if not the most well-known, passage of Scripture. It starts off with a beautiful description of how God takes care of us and meets every and any need that we might have. Although this is true in one sense, most interpret this passage as a “God is all about me” passage. And while it is true that God loves us tremendously and has shown us His grace in our lives, I believe we often lose sight of the foundational principle in this passage. Verse three ends with this, “for his name’s sake.” The very reason why we exist, are comforted, are led to abundance, is all to the glory of our God. God blesses us and takes care of us, but He does it with the common theme of “for his name’s sake.” Essentially, God has the right to be selfish. In humanistic terms, this at a glance, seems unethical. But it is not. We are created for the one purpose of glorifying God. This brings us to our purpose in life. God has outlined in His Word that He receives ultimate glory when we spread the Gospel of Jesus. So in essence, anything and everything that God does or does not do for you is so that He may see souls come to Christ for…….. you guessed it…. His glory. Let’s spread His glory this week and meet the purpose for what we were created!
