This supplement is published by The Copenhagen Post in co-operati on with Wondercool, please refer to our disclaim-er on page 2 of the newspaper.
You would have a hard job fi nding a city in the Northern Hemisphere that has as many cultural events as Copenhagen this February.
Sure that’s a bold claim, but when you add up the numbers of organisati ons getti ng involved this month– someti mes in just one single event – that’s a serious level of parti cipati on worth showing off about.
And it’s probably no exaggerati on to say that every-body in this city knows at least one person involved in Wondercool Copenhagen, so what are you waiti ng for? Put that winter coat on and show your support for your parti cipati ng friend and a festi val that is redefi n-ing the way we treat February.
Because it might seem surreal, parti cularly given the recent cold weather, but one day we might actually look forward to February in the same way we long for April.
Without further ado, here’s the third of four special supplements about the festi val, which this week is fo-cusing on cooking.
And don’t forget that while the fashion has prett y much ended, architecture, art, design, jazz and rock are sti ll going strong.
Look out for our special focus on rock next week.
HAS A FEBRUARY EVENTS CALENDAR EVER BEEN THIS FULL BEFORE?

Wondercool Copenhagen- Feb 10-16
The winter edition of Copenhagen Cooking, a festival that has been going strong these last seven summers, is back after a successful pilot last year, en-ticing you with exquisite dining at some of the city’s best restaurants, a lumpfish roe safari, Icelandic Pagan festival, a liquorice extravaganza, classes on how to cook the perfect steak, and activities for the kids - and the list goes on and on. By Shawna Braberry
Before Noma became the best restaurant in the world, the city of Copenhagen would not have sprung to
mind when people spoke of must-try food destinations, but little did they know that this city is filled with
food pleasures. While many are prepared to pay top dollar all year round for its delicacies, Copenhagen
gives those on a tighter budget the chance to enjoy the great food this city has to offer.
This year Copenhagen Cooking’s spotlight is on the seafood caught in Denmark’s surrounding waters. February is
normally the coldest month of the winter season, which makes it the best time to enjoy fresh and delicious sea-
food from this part of the world because the cold slows down the growth of these creatures, causing their tastes
to intensify.
We therefore suggest that you don’t waste any time about savouring these intense flavours at a plethora of events
around the city. Join the party that is the lumpfish roe fiesta, taste different types of fresh seafood at Peder Oxe or
Acquamarina, enjoy mussels in the middle of the night in the Meatpacking District, sample fresh sashimi from fine
sushi joints like Fifty Fifty, and enjoy a Japanese film and wine tastings at Imperial.
In conjunction with the kids’ winter holidays in week seven, Hotel Ibsens and Hotel Danmark are holding a Faste-
lavn party for kids, where the prizes are a bed-and-breakfast weekend stay for the whole family at the hotels. Of
course it’s not all about Danish cuisine at Copenhagen Cooking 2012: Hotel Fox has one of Denmark’s best sushi
chefs to teach your little ones to explore their creativity and culinary skills at making sushi.
Danish beer features prominently with a number of themed lunches and dinners, making use of the excellent lo-
cal brews, while for wine lovers, there are more than a thousand types to sample, some of which date back to the
early 1900s. There are also a few special wine-and-dine nights where a sommelier and head chef have put together
a special gourmet experience.
The adventurous and curious will no doubt flock to the Icelandic Pagan Festival where traditional winter foods from
Iceland are featured. This ‘Fear Factor’ style of cuisine includes rotten shark, singed sheep heads, and ram testicles.
But before you write off these foods as inedible because of their appearance, remember that it never pays not to
take risks and you may just find yourself heading for seconds.
Or if you don’t have enough time on your hands, how about being at ten restaurants at one time? At Admiral Hotel,
the ten best Nordic restaurants have gathered in one place to spoil you with their innovative menus.
And although February might be the coldest month outdoors, it will definitely be warm and cosy in our bellies and
we may just feel the urge to celebrate. Just like music, food is a universal language. Great music and great food are
created with passion, imagination, creativity and patience in order to create the masterpiece that will bring people
from all walks of life together – and that’s what Copenhagen Cooking is about.
