Why do I love video games ?

1st levelMy history begins in my childhood when I started play games on TV-consoles. In that time it was a special ritual to plug in your Sega, to choose which cartridge to play. «The Lion King» game will be forever in our hearts – that is why I am still running it on my Macbook Pro

People ask me why I am doing this?

They say that watching a movie is better…

Well…

Page 6: Why games?

2nd levelAt first, let’s speak about duration of production. How long do you think an average video game is being made? And in comparison to average Hollywood movie? For example, the upcoming Captain America: Civil War from Marvel and already released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game from Polish CD Project Red:

Chris Evans announced that shooting starts on the 1st of May, 2015 Even before shooting, Marvel

announced premiere date - the 6th of May, 2016

1 year 5 days

Pre-Production started even before release of Witcher 2 in 2010

Announced on the 5th of February, 2013

Released on the 19th of May, 2015

5 years

2nd levelMore that that. If we divide games on two conditional types, the production duration varies, but would still be more than in cinema industry: 1.«tube» – games like Call Of Duty, where player has only one way to go and everything is scripted2. «open world simulation» – games like GTA V, where there is a plenty of options. The world lives it’s own life by it’s own rules

Needless to say, that even after successful launch, authors should provide assistance for users that have technical issues running there games. Beside that, the bigger game is – the bigger number of glitches will be found sooner or later

So what Games do better than Movies?

Page 9: Why games?

When you control your character, make decisions, without knowing the consequences, you are feeling involved; you’re thinking what would you do in such a tricky situation in real life. And only that way you can be absolutely stunned by the consequences of your deeds

3rd levelIf you face a spoiler about a movie or a TV-series, there is nothing you can do about it. If you accidentally read or heard a spoiler about a game*, it doesn’t mean that it will be the same in YOUR world with YOUR decisions. Probably in can be much worse

*basically RPG games

Final BossNowadays, video games are not just a geeky hobby like it was in the 70s. They are mainstream. Yes, they have some minuses, but in the end, everything has.I am a part of a unique generation: brought up and educated by books and literature, raised by movies and now entertaining by games. For me games are as emotional as a good novel. While reading, you have to use your imagination. While playing, you need to choose as you would do in real life and choose wisely, because sometimes authors have enough talent to hit you right into your heart when you do not expect

By the wayVideo games are much more beautiful than many people think. For my taste, sometimes even better, because you can explore amazing landscape from different angles in real time
