Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing can be held between participates nationally, internationally or inter campus without charge. It uses broadband and can link as many sites as you wish at any one time.

For one-to-one conferencing we normally dial manually while if it’s a multi-site meeting we use JANet videoconferencing http://www.ja.net/services/video/jvcs/ who provide the hub and quality control to link all the participates together.

Videoconferencing is different to videophone, videomessenger or Skype type videocalls. These use mobile phones or pc’s and webcams primarily for one to one meetings while videoconferencing is purpose built designed for meetings and larger groups. At present the two systems are not compatible although ICT are proposing to provide facilities for webcam ‘Skpye type’ videocalls shortly.

For more information on Multi-site or videoconferencing

in general, contact Graham Bateman on 4991.
