2010 was a year of change at the Madison Area YMCA, as we bid farewell to Barry Kroll as he retired as President & CEO and welcomed Diane Mann into this role. We also joined YMCAs nationwide in a major rebranding effort.

One of Barry’s many accomplishments during his 15 years as President & CEO included the design and implementation of “Plan 2000,” a $5.4 million capital fundraising and facility expansion project that substantially increased the YMCA Family Center program space, enabling the Y to serve an additional 4,000 members.

Diane Mann was appointed President and CEO in June 2010, after a nationwide search that attracted a large field of well qualified candidates. With her strong background in the areas of wellness and philanthropy, one of Diane’s immediate priorities was to strengthen the YMCA’s outreach and fundraising activities. The Annual Support Campaign alone creates a powerful opportunity to tell the Y story through the voices of members and others who have benefited from participating in Y programs. The YMCA staff embraced the new culture of philanthropy by raising $22,131 through 161 staff donors, an increase of 109 staff donors over the prior year.

YMCAs across the country embarked on a brand revitalization effort to position the Y as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. This brand revitalization is designed for all Ys to communicate with one voice about what we do, the impact we have and why our work is worthy of support. The new brand roll out, including new graphics and logo, is expected to be complete within five years.

The Madison Area YMCA’s story reflects the impact we have in the communities we serve. Financial assistance with a total value of $869,250 subsidized dozens of programs and supported thousands of community members in 2010. Direct financial assistance of $368,618 was given to families at the YMCA’s F.M. Kirby Children’s Center and $118,412 was given to families and individuals at the Family Center. To keep costs affordable for all, the organization additionally supplemented $382,220 at both facilities.
