A NOTE FROM FATHER ANDREW Page 2

MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

Holy Rosary is said

every Sunday morning

at 8 am just before

the beginning of the

8:30 Mass.

Dear Friends:

I am sure that everyone was just thrilled to watch Pope Francis on TV. It had to be even more exciting if you had the opportunity to be there. I know that some of our parishioners had that chance and will be sharing with us what that was like. But if you couldn’t be there you still had the opportunity to gather with fellow parishion-ers and join in the celebration of Welcome Day viewing the Holy Father’s Mass in Philadelphia right here in Hoffman Hall. This was all made possible by the Knights of Columbus our Council 8733. I want to sincerely thank everyone of the Knights who was involved in making this happen. It was such a joy to see our parishion-ers come together and enjoy the food and fellowship. My thanks to all those who took the time to sign up for our Next Step Program. Your help is greatly appreciat-ed. Our ministries always need new ministers to help. This is and opportunity for YOU to serve don’t let that opportunity pass by. My thanks to the Art & Environment Ministry for the beautiful Fall Banners and floral arrangements around the altar. Sometimes I think we forget the tremendous amount of work that goes into this ministry to prepare the worship space for the liturgical seasons. Thanks you so much!!!! In today’s Gospel, Jesus sheds light on the nature of Christian marriage. The Pharisees were trying to trick him, but Jesus transformed their plot into a teachable moment. Speaking of the Mosaic law that allowed a man to divorce his wife, Jesus indicated that this man-made law was not the standard by which marriage should be understood. Instead, he referred back to the story of Adam and Eve, where we see the first human couple living in a state of perfect harmony and bliss with each other and with God. God’s original plan for marriage was part of the joyful paradise in Eden. But sin entered the world, and with it came a rupture in the pristine unity of the man and the woman. Thus Jesus explains divorce as the result of sin (i.e., “the hardness of your hearts”). But as always, Jesus calls us to transcend the slavery of sin. And more than that, he promises us his own divine help, his grace, and his Spirit to enable us to accomplish what we could not do on our own power. Have a great week! See you on the weekend. Fr Andrew
