A NOTE FROM FATHER ANDREW

Dear Parish Family,

Welcome back I hope you had a great summer. I am looking forward to having all of our children’s pro-

grams up and running soon. Please don’t forget the Ministry Rally “ONE DAY” tomorrow night at

7:00pm in Hoffman Hall. This invitation is extended to all who are involved in ministry and all those who

are thinking about ministry here in the parish. A year ago the new patio was installed out side the cloister

connector, with all the new tables and umbrellas many are enjoying the outside. Please enjoy. It is a great

space to enjoy fellowship after mass. My thanks to the Café Ministry for making things so welcoming for

our members and our guests. Again thank you for your support for the Faith To Move Mountains Cam-

paign. If you were not here last week we received our first rebate check back from the diocese in the

amount of $26,000.00. Please be faithful to your pledges so that more money will be coming back to us.

Today’s Gospel gives a powerhouse lineup of three parables that all teach a similar message. The theme can

be summarized in the simple directive: rejoice don’t reject. When someone who isn’t part of the “fold” ap-

pears in church, this is cause for rejoicing! It should not be cause for gossip, sideways glances, or nervous

whispers about what to do or say. Rather a genuine smile and word of welcome would be in order at the

very least, and a heartfelt invitation to join the community would be totally appropriate. Too often we be-

come complacent about our Christian company. We get used to seeing the same people every Sunday and

forget about the “lost” men and women who are outside the bounds of our comfort zone. Jesus gives us the

image of an active shepherd who goes “after the lost one until he finds it,” and a diligent widow who will

“sweep the house, searching carefully” until she finds her coin. He tells us of a father who “ran to his son,

embraced and kissed him,” in spite of the separation they had faced. We too are called to take initiative in

seeking out those who are lost, and to rejoice heartily when they finally do come back home.

Have a wonderful week!

See you on the weekend.

“Everything I have is yours.” Luke 15:31

Our Heavenly Father gives us everything, including the chance to share in His eternal kingdom. Yet,

like the Prodigal Son we are often lured away by the materialism of our society. Do we really want to

turn our backs on all that God offers in exchange for a material wealth that has no lasting value?
