!Save the date for Totus Tuus, June 17-22. As always, friends, family members and neighbors are welcome. This year one of our own college students will be on one of the Totus team. Nathan Young has been ac-cepted to join one of the teams. The support of the parish cluster for the Totus Tuus program continues to produce great fruit on many levels.

!Calling all singers ages 12-18! There will be a free one-day choir clinic at St. Michael’s Church in Duluth on Thursday, June 21, from 2:00-8:30 pm. Train and perform with the National Catholic Youth Choir and con-ductors Andre Heywood and Jennifer Robbins. Learn more and register at www.CatholicYouthChoir.org.

From the Desk of the Deacon As I mentioned in my homily a couple weeks ago, we are called to be the image of Christ to those we encounter. But what prevents us from being that image of Christ? What prevents us from being Christ to other people and from seeing Christ in them? Maybe we are too wrapped up in our own concerns or too busy with a career. Maybe we feel uncom-fortable reaching out to others, or are struggling with our own sin. Maybe we are prejudiced, burdened with anxiety and fear, or preoccupied with our own desires. In today’s Gospel Jesus describes himself as the vine and His Father is the vine grower, and that by His words we have already been pruned (through the sacraments). But what if we subsequently wander? What if we become distracted by self-interest? What if we neglect our spiritual practices. What if we are growing unproductive branches? What if we are no longer bearing good fruit? If you have a garden and grow fruit like berries and grapes, you know that pruning is not a one-time intervention. It must be done continually in order to maintain good yields and quality. I think that is a good analogy for us to consider. Perhaps we need to do some introspection and deter-mine why we are not bearing good fruit. In other words, why are we not being the image of Christ to those we encounter, or not able to see Christ in them. Perhaps we need to do some gardening with our habits. Maybe we should prune our activities, like limiting our screen time, by cutting back on leisure activities, or by examining our consciences and addressing sin in our lives. Perhaps we need to take some of that time to reach out, to volunteer at the soup kitchen, make visits to the sick, spend time with the elderly, interact with our families—to bear good fruit! This is a great witness to our faith and our church, and is evangelization at a very personal level. Maybe we simply need to spend time with our Lord in prayer and submit our wills to the Master Gardener—we have many opportunities! Be good gardeners, prune your unproductive branches, and share your fruit with your neighbor! Peace~ Deacon Tim

Use parish code cd2376.

A Reflection for 5th Sunday of Easter—”I am the vine, you are the branches.” To bear fruit, we must be connected to the vine. Consider what it means to be connected to the vine. What do you do to stay connected? What role would study and reflection on the scriptures have in this ef-fort? How does your connection to the vine influ-ence and inform your choices and actions?
