About Me

I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. My family moved to Duncan, B.C. when I was little and, ever since, I have loved living on the island. I spend a lot of time outside snowboarding, hiking, backpacking and skimboarding. After briefly living in Saskatchewan, my family moved to the Fraser Valley.

I am married. My husband and I just celebrated our four year anniversary. We have recently moved to Nanaimo, B.C. because we both love the Island.

Education

I studied at University of the Fraser Valley and completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History.

I am currently finishing my last semester of The Post Baccalaureate Elementary program at Vancouver Island University.

Field Experience

I worked for eleven weeks as a student teacher in a grade 1/2 class at Bench Elementary in Cowichan Bay. I learned a lot throughout this experience about classroom management, assessment, teaching strategies and engagement in the pedagogical relationship.

I worked for 6 weeks in a grade 4 class at Cilaire Elementary. I had a positive experience and feel excited about my future as a teacher.

My Philosophy of Teaching

and LearningI believe students need to be challenged appropriately to achieve a higher level of success. In order to accomplish this, a teacher needs to be engaged and thoughtful. Engagement in the pedagogical relationship is the most important aspect of my teaching.

Professional Development

I attended a JumpMath workshop at Maple Bay Elementary in 2013.

I attended a Technology Workshop at Bench Elementary in 2013. I learned about interactive iPad activities for the classroom.

I attended a school based Pro D Day at Cilaire Elementary. I learned about Excellence in Writing and behaviour management strategies.

I attended the BCTF workshop where I learned about classroom management as a TOC.
