G.L.A.D.In our classroom, we use a set of instructional strategies called GLAD, which stands for Guided Language Acquisition Design. These strategies promote student cooperation, active learning, accountability, rich literacy, and the use of academic language. Looking around our classroom, some of these strategies are tangible and immediately visible. For example, the grouping of the desks into teams instead of rows is a GLAD strategy that encourages academic conversations and teamwork. Many of the charts and posters you see on our walls are GLAD strategies that help cement student learning of different concepts, promote literacy, and address multiple intelligences. There are some invisible but still important GLAD strategies in here too – like the expectation that at all times students will show respect, solve problems, and make good decisions. We will use GLAD strategies throughout our day and throughout our year, so expect to hear more about GLAD from your child and in my communications!
