Kansas City Chiefs 14 Atlanta Falcons 38

Kansas City rolled into the Bubba Dome equipped with a new quarterback to lead

them to the Superbowl, but it was the new look Atlanta Falcons that shone early –

After a huge 38yd run, it was Michael “Burner” Turners 4yd TD that put the Falcons up

early. Matt Ryan said “I’m the New Guy here!” and connected with Roddy White for a

70yd TD bomb with a Ocho Sinco‐esque Celebration!, putting the Falcons up two

scores. Elam managed a 27yd field goal to start the 2nd

quarter scoring, and then the

Burner ran

in

from

1yd

out

for

his

2nd

TD

of

the

game.

Tyler

Thigpen

finally

got

the

Chiefs

on

the

board;

his

15yd

TD

to

Dwayne

Bowe ended the Half. Falcons up 24‐7. Larry Johnson made himself seen in the third, after fumbling the ball earlier in the drive

he managed a 1yd run to close the gap to 10. The Burner opened the gap again from 2yds out – his 3rd

TD of the day! The game

ended when Thigpen threw a Pick to Chris Houston at the 10yd line, Houston took it back to the house. Falcons went on to win

38‐14.

Game Notes.... o Tyler Who? – Tyler Thigpen made his debut for Kansas but didn’t exactly get off to a good start! He was 14 of 34 passing with 3

interceptions!

o The Predator! –John “The Predator” Abraham pressured all day and proved he is one of the league’s elite pass rushers. He finished

with 2 sacks and a forced fumble.

o Larry Worry – Larry Johnson had his first 100+yd rushing game since week 12 of last season – thanks to the poor Offensive line in Kansas!

Oakland Raiders 23 Buffalo Bills 24

You may think this would have been the most boring game of the week...u’d be

wrong! After Sebastian Janikowski put the Raiders on the board first hitting two field

goals from 23 and 35yds out, Marshawn Lynch showed that he’s a probowl calibre

RB, taking the ball to the house from 14yds out. The best the Raiders could manage

was another Janikowski field goal to put them up 9‐7 at halftime. After Ryan Lindell

missed a FG

and

Trent

Edwards

threw

a pick

to

Deangelo

Hall,

It

was

a

Jamarcus Russell Scramble from 1yd which got the Raiders their first TD of the game.

Marshawn Lynch then got his 2nd

TD of the game; 3yd run up the middle put the Bills back in the game. Russell then struck back

in spectacular style, an 84yd TD by Johnnie Lee Higgins. Trent Edwards was determined to bring the Bills back; Roscoe Parrish

answered his call from 14yds out. The Bills then put together a solid game winning drive, and Ryan Lindell struck the winning FG

from 34yds out, Bills win 23‐24.

Game Notes.... o Bills Will – The Bills are 3‐0 for the first time since 2002!

o Pass! – Jamarcus Russell only threw three passes in the second half – one of which was an 84yd TD!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27 Chicago Bears 24 In a classic clash of two very different style of defence, you would think that this was

going to be a closely fought game. Brian Griese got the Bucs off to a less than

swashbuckling start – His interception to Lance Briggs set up Robbie Gould for 1 40yd

field goal. Gould added another to follow, this one from 43yds out – but the Bucs

soon fired up the cannons – Griese hit Ike Hilliard in the end zone to give the Bucs the

lead. In the second quarter Brian Urlacher recovered a Maurice Stovall fumble, but

Kyle Orton returned the favour, throwing a pick to Barrett Ruud. Gaines Adams then showed the “big guy can hustle”

14‐11 at halftime. After Griese threw an interception to Nathan Vasher, Kyle Orton found rookie Matt Forte in the end zone for

the TD, and then added the 2 points. After Griese was intercepted for a third time, by Kevin Payne Orton turned it into a 19yd TD

to Brandon Lloyd. Bryant managed to get a field goal back – from 35yds out, and then Griese nailed Jeremy Stevens in the end

zone for the game tying TD. The game went into overtime and after several stalled drives it was the Bucs that put it together,

Matt Bryant hitting an easy 21yd field goal to give the Bucs a 27‐24 victory.



Game Notes.... o Sportin’ Orton – Kyle Orton managed to throw a career high 268yds passing on the day.

o Greasy? – It was a mixed day for Brian Griese – he threw a stunning 407yds passing in 67 attempts – the 4th

most ever attempted ion

an NFL game. But he also threw for three picks which nearly cost the Bucs the game.

Carolina Panthers 10 Minnesota Vikings 20 After an impressive start, the Panthers were looking for 3‐0 and the Vikings were

trying to avoid 0‐3. John Kasay got the Panthers on the board first with a 43yd field

goal; the Panthers went 10‐0 up when “The Daily Show” Jonathan Stewart rumbled

in from 2yds out. Ryan Longwell got the Vikings in the game; a field goal from 28yds

out was the reward for a long drive. Next drive, Delhomme got banged by Antoine

Winfield, who picked up the fumble and took it 19yds to the house –tying the game

at halftime. In the third quarter, After Gus Frerotte hit Bernard Berrian for a 48yd gain; he then hit Visanthe Shiancoe from

34yds out for the TD. The scoring ended when Ryan Longwell hit a 32yd field goal. Vikings win 20‐10 and avoid 0‐3.

Game Notes.... o Welcome Back Steve! – Steve Smith returned to Carolina this week and it didn’t take long for him to make his presence felt. His first

catch of the day was also the first offensive play of the day – a 16yd catch. He totalled 4 receptions for 70yds.

o Penalty! – The Vikings were plagued with penalties all day – they incurred 9 penalties for 100yds

o Whoops! – Remember last year when the ravens called a timeout just as they were about to beat the patriots? Well John fox

managed to call a timeout just as the Panthers blocked a Ryan Longwell field goal....DOH!!

Miami Dolphins 38 New England Patriots 13 If this matchup took place last year the bookies would have been laughing! Last year’s

losers against last years...near champions! After Matt Cassell Was picked early in the

first by

Brown

took

a direct

snap

from

centre

and

scored

from

2yds out. Steve Gostkowski added 3 points for the pats early in the second quarter –

37yds out, but Ronnie Brown went down town from 15yds out for the TD. Gostkowski

added another 3, this time from 44yds out – but Ronnie Brown responded, he took

another direct snap from centre and scored another TD, from 3yds out. It was Ronnie

Brown who got the scoring underway in the third – this time he passed deep to Anthony Fasano for a 19yd TD on the HB throw.

Cassell finally managed to save some face; he hit Jabar Gaffney for a 5yd TD. Unbelievably Brown was not finished yet though –

he obliterated the Pats defence on a 62yd run his fourth of the day, setting a new franchise record for rushing TD’s in a game.

Matt Cassell then fumbled the ball away, thanks to a Joey Porter shot, and on the next possession he was intercepted by

Renaldo Hill. Dan Carpenter finished the day with his only FG attempt – it was good from 39yds out. The Dolphins stun the Pats,

as they win 38‐13.

Game Notes.... o NEW offense? – After the Patriots adopted a new style of “Pass, Pass, Pass” offense last year – its somehow ironic that the new

formation used by the dolphins today, whereby the HB takes direct snaps, the QB lines up as a receiver and the HB runs around the

corner – they had no answer for. The Pats defence was stunned and confused – allowing 4 rushing TD’s.

o Brown Town – Dan Henning called some excellent plays offensively for the Dolphins – His constant trickery and changes threw the

Pats into meltdown. Ronnie Brown had 17 carries for 113yds and 4 rushing TD’s

o Pennington Power – Chad Pennington threw accurately and safely – he completed 17 of 20 for 226yds on the day.



Cincinnati Bengals 23 New York Giants 26 When the 2‐0 defending Superbowl champs returned to New York, they faced their

biggest challenge against the 0‐2 Bengals. Shane Graham nailed a 22yd field goal for

the first Bengals score of the day. Brandon Jacobs then powered his way in from 1yd

out to give the Giants the lead. The new boy in Cinci, Chris Perry showed some skills

as he hustled 25yds for the score and the lead. John Carney drew the Giants level at

10 with his 24yd field goal, but the half ended with a 30yd attempt from Graham –

Cinci up

It

was

Carney

who

got

the

only

score

of

the

third

quarter

with

a 46yd

attempt,

and

then

he

got

the

fourth quarter underway – this time from 26yds out. The fourth quarter proved the most interesting – first Carson Palmer hit T.J.

Houshmandzadeh from 4yds out but, Eli Manning rose to the occasion, he put the Giants up 3 points when he hit Kevin Boss for

the TD from 4yds out. The Giants just couldn’t stop the Bengals though – Shane Graham managed a 21yd field goal to send the

game into overtime. Finally in overtime, after Plaxico Burress caught a 28yd pass and Amani Toomer caught one from 31yds out,

John Carney had an attempt set up from 22yds out, which he hit. Giants win in overtime 26‐23 and remain unbeaten.

Game Notes.... o Welcome Back T.J – After a quiet start to the season, T.J. Houshmandzadeh had 12 receptions for 146yds and a TD. Welcome back!

Houston Texans

12 Tennessee

Titans

The Titans are this year’s real surprise – With Vince Young gone it was left up to

Kerry Collins to lead the team – and he’s done it with great success. Collins didn’t

exactly get off to a great start though, after he was intercepted by Jacques Reeves,

Kris Brown hit a 44yd field goal. Lendale White then capped off a long Titan drive

with a 2yd TD run. Kris Brown then added another 3 to the Texans total, this time

from 24yds out. Kerry Collins hit Vince Young’s favourite target, Bo Scaife from

9yds out to put the Titans up 14‐6. Steve Slaton was a real surprise in this game,

and his 6yd TD capped off a great day rushing. Lendale White couldn’t be silenced though, he ran in another TD from 1yd out.

Once

halftime

was

over,

Rob

Bironas

hit

one

from

44yds

to

breathe

some

life

into

the

Texans.

But

they

couldn’t

keep

any

length

in any drive after that, and the game was over when Cortland (Hawaii Bound ) Finnegan picked off Matt Schaub at the 1yd line

and took it 99yds to the house. Titans win 31‐12.

Game Notes.... o Slated – Steve Slaton was a real surprise for the Texans in a game which didn’t yield many positives. He ran for 116yds and 1TD.

o King Titans – The Titans are 3‐0 for the first time since 1999.

o Schaub Show – A forgettable day for Matt Schaub, 17 of 37 for 117yds, no TD’s, 3 picks and 2 fumbles.

Arizona Cardinals 17 Washington Redskins 24 Two very well matched teams lead to a very interesting game and that couldn’t

be truer than at FedEx Field when the Cardinals rolled into town. Clinton Portis

opened up the scoring; he sliced his way in from 3yds out. Shaun Suisham then

added a FG from 48yds out. The Cards awoke late in the second when Kurt

Warner hit Anaquin Boldin from 4yds out on a laser pass. Rackers drew it level for

the Cards in the third quarter on a 26yd field goal (see what I mean about

interesting! – Blow for blow!) It was blow for blow on the next two possessions –

Jason Campbell hit Todd Yoder for 2yds out, but then Warner drilled Larry Fitzgerald for 62yds, toasting the Skins defensive

backs. The Game was tied again. Kurt Warner made a costly mistake in the fourth quarter, throwing a pick to Carlos Rodgers at

the Washington 43yd line. This set up Jason Campbell up for a connection with Santana Moss for 17yds and the skins were

allowed to

run

out

the

clock.

Game Notes.... o Moss Toss – Santana Moss became the first Redskins receiver with a TD in 6 consecutive games since Bobby Mitchell did it in 1961.



New Orleans Saints 32 Denver Broncos 34 You may have noticed that week 3 has been full of close games and final drive deciders

– well this game was no different. Jay “wonder boy” Cutler didn’t wait long to start his

team on their way, He hit Nate Jackson from 1yd out to cap off a steady drive. Martin

Gramatica put the Saints on the board from 43yds out to cut the lead to 4. It took a

Denver challenge to overturn a TD catch by Brandon Marshall – he did get both feet in

bounds for the TD. Reggie Bush had a fumbling problem last year...Well – Nate

Webster recovered

the

fumble

and

took

it

35yds

to

the

house!

After

Mike

McKenzie

picked

Jay

Cutler,

the

Saints

switched

running back and went to Pierre Thomas who produced a 23yd TD run. They then went back to Reggie Bush; he pulled out a

23yd run for the TD. The Broncos were back in business when Matt Prater hit a 27yd field goal, but after getting a 99yd field

ahead of them – Andre Hall couldn’t make it out of the end zone and the Saints got the safety. 24‐19 Denver up at the half.

Michael Pittman kicked off the third with a 2yd TD run from scrimmage to extend the Broncos lead. But after Brees connected

with Robert Meachem for a 74yd completion – he connected with Reggie Bush in the end zone for a 6yd TD. The Saints had a

shot at overtime when Pierre Thomas banged in for a 10yd TD but Drew Brees couldn’t connect with Reggie Bush and the

attempt failed. They had another shot at winning, but Gramatica missed a 43yd field goal. Bronco’s win 34‐32.

Torch’em

– Robert

Meachem

had

an

impressive

day

as

the

Saints

leading

receiver,

he

had

2 catches

for

86yds!

o Marshall? – Brandon Marshall is proving he is Jay Cutler’s favourite target again – he had 6 receptions for 155yds.

o D.J. – D.J. Williams had a superior day on defence – he had 14 tackles and 2 assists.

Detroit Lions 13 San Francisco 49’ers 31 The Lions are in a state – it’s a worse state than the Raiders or the Falcons, but the

same state as the Rams, they have the players but just aren’t producing. In a game

of the counter productivity, it’s not surprising that J.T. O’Sullivan’s 6yd TD to Isaac

Bruce came at the end of the first quarter to start the scoring. Frank gore doubled

the lead

with

a 4yd

run

around

the

right

end.

The

best

the

Lions

could

manage

was

a 44yd Jason Hanson field goal which was quickly erased by J.T. O’Sullivan’s 2nd

TD

of the game – this one to Delanie Walker from 24yds out. 49ers up 21‐3 at the half.

The only score of the third quarter was a 51yd Jason Hanson field goal. The fourth

quarter started with a 1yd Allen Rossum TD, but finally at the end of the quarter, John Kitna finally got his TD of the day, this one

to Rudi Johnson. The game finished with a 25yd Joe Nedney Field goal. Frisco wins 31‐13 and the Lions drop to 3‐0 and their

crisis continues.

St Louis Rams 10 Seattle Seahawks 37 The

result

of

this

game

was

never

in

doubt.

The

Rams

have

some

big

defensive

problems

and they were highlighted here today. Seattle dominated the first quarter, they managed

two TD’s in total – The first score was a 28yd Orlando Mare field goal, quickly followed by a

10yd TD from Matt Hasslebeck to Michael Bumpus, and then a 29yd Julius Jones TD run.

Josh Brown managed to get the Rams on the board from 43yds out, but T.J. Duckett

exposed the Rams defensive issues again and powered in from 4yds out. Josh Brown added

another 3 points from 29yds out, but Orlando mare opened the gap up again from 28yds

out. The only score of the third quarter was a Rams TD; Marc Bulger hit Dane Looker for his only score of the day. The fourth

quarter was Hawks domination again – T.J. Duckett ran in for his second score of the day, and Orlando Mare added three from

28yds out. The Seahawks rolled over the Rams and get their first win of the season.

Game Notes.... o Jones, Julius Jones – This was a big day for Julius Jones; he ran for 22 carries and 144yds and scored a TD. T.J. Duckett had a big day

as well; he had 19 carried for 79yds and 2 rushing TD’s.

o Lost – St Louis lost for the 16th

time in 19 games!



Clevland Browns 10 Baltimore Ravens 28 After a respectable season last year, the NFL was shocked at the start the Browns

got off to. Baltimore, however, has new QB Joe Flacco and are impressed with

him. Let’s see what happens when the two met...After a scoreless first quarter in

which the biggest play was a Joe Flacco interception, it was Derek Anderson who

got the Browns rolling first, his short pass to Jerome Harrison went for a 19yd TD.

After Joe Flacco floated out his second interception to Mike Adams, the Ravens

got the

ball

back

and

Willis

McGahee

banged

it

in

for

a 5yd

score.

Phil

Dawson

kicked a 38yd field goal to give the Browns the lead in to halftime. Derek Anderson’s first drive of the third quarter was picked by

Chris McAllister and quickly turned into a 1yd Le’ron McLane score. Derek Anderson then had another pass picked off by Ed

Reed, who took it 32yds for the score. Le’ron McLane went up the middle again for his 2nd

TD from 1yd out. The game ended

when Derek Anderson threw his third interception of the day, Samari Rolle making the pick. Baltimore wins 28‐10.

Game Notes.... o Can you Reed? –Ed Reed picked off the 35

th interception of his career and took it back to the house for the fourth time!

o Possession 9/10 of the law! – The Browns have only scored two offensive TD’s in 33 possessions.

The classic matchup – great offense vs. great defence...who won then? Peyton

Manning hooked up with his old favourite Marvin Harrison from 4yds out to open

the scoring, the only score of the first quarter. Josh Scobee got the Jags in the game

– his field goal from 26yds out cut the lead to 4. Peyton Manning made a mistake

when he tried to hit Marvin Harrison for the second time, he instead found Rashean

Mathis who took the gift 61yds to the house. Joseph Addai brought the game close

again when he ran in from 3yds out after a penalty ridden drive. After a ball

exchange – Garrard threw a pick to Kelvin Hayden, and then Manning returned the favour to Brian Williams – Maurice‐Jones

Addai struck again – a 2yd TD gave the Colts the lead. It took a quickly thought out last drive to put the Jags on the very edge of

Josh Scobee’s range – his 51yd attempt was good, Jags edge the Colts 23‐21.

Game Notes.... o Stop the run!– The Colts have allowed a 100‐yard rusher in every game this season, including two Sunday in Taylor and

Jones‐Drew.

o Time Check – Due to their stunning run game, the Jags were able to control the clock. They Held the ball for 41 minutes, and the

Colts could only manage 18 minutes.

Pittsburgh Steelers 6 Philadelphia Eagles 15 The lowest scoring game of the week and it came because of great defence and poor

offensive line play. Jeff Reed got the only score of the first quarter, a 37yd field goal.

The first TD was a Donovan McNabb pass to Correll Buckhalter mid‐way through the

second, and then David Akers finished the first half scoring with a 31yd field goal.

After a scoreless third quarter, Big Ben Roethlisberger was called for intentional

grounding in the end zone – 2 point safety for the Eagles. David Akers finished the day

with a 31yd field goal. Eagles win 15‐6.

Game Notes.... o Six Sack Slam – The Eagles recorded nine sacks and a safety and had at least twice that many knock‐downs. And those

numbers don't count the four times Steelers Roethlisberger barely escaped sacks!



Dallas Cowboys 27 Greenbay Packers 16 This weeks clash of the Titans was full of promise for big days and big plays. After

Ryan Grant fumbled the ball away, Nick Folk managed a 25yd field goal. Mason

Crosby tied the game from 36yds out. Tony Romo’s first interception set up Mason

Crosby from 38yds out to give the Packers the lead. Felix Jones then hustled 60yds

around the left end and Nick Folk added three points from 39yds out. In the third

quarter Mason Crosby added another 3 from 33yds out then Marion Barber pounded

Aaron Rodgers finished the scoring with his only TD of the game, 1yd out – he ran it in himself. The Cowboys win 27‐16.

Game Notes.... o Barber Rumble – Marion Barber ran 28 times for 142yds and 1 TD.

o Austin Texas ‐ Miles Austin was the leading cowboys receiver, had only 2 receptions, one for 63yds and one for 52yds.

New York Jets 29 San Diego Chargers 48 Phillip Rivers didn’t get off to the best start – he had a pass intended for Antonio

Gates picked by Dwayne Barrett and returned for 6 points. Nate Kaeding got the

Chargers on the board from 36yds out, and then Phillip Rivers added 7 when he hit

Mike Tolbert from 1yd out to end the first quarter. After the interception return of

the first quarter, the second got off in much the same way – Brett Favre had a pass

picked by Antonio Cromartie who returned it to the house for 52yds. Favre hit back

though, nailing Lauverneus Coles from 3yds out. Rivers and Chris Chambers hooked up again from 27yds out and when Favre

was picked by Eric Weddle, Rivers hit Antonio Gates from 6yds out to give the chargers a 17 point lead at halftime. Ladanian

Tomlinson – remember him? He opened up the third quarter with a 2yd TD run. It was the fourth before any more scoring took

off – Favre hit Chauncey Stuckey for a 4yd TD, but the ensuing two point attempt failed. Feely added 3 points from 32yds out,

Brett

Favre

clawed a TD back to Dustin Keller but it was too late – even after three failed two point attempts, (two penalties nullified the

attempt) Favre could do nothing. Nate Kaeding finished off the scoring with a 49yd field goal and after a slow start the Chargers

destroy the Jets 48‐29.

Game Notes.... o Punt...Nah – The Chargers punted only once in 11 drives. They got points on almost all of their drives and the Jets could not stop the

scoring.

o 99 Problems – Favre now has 99 touchdown passes in his career from inside the 5‐yard line after throwing two on Monday night.
