Humble BeginningsWho Are We?

We Are Jersey Magazine is a subsidiary company birthed out of the parent business entitled Jersey Turnt Up Entertainment. Having achieved rising success within only two years of business, the owners wanted to create something that would expand their network-ing repertoire while promoting positive talent both lo-cally and abroad. The idea of creating We Are Jersey Magazine began when co- CEOs, Daniel Banks & Bridget Papino, were featured in the July 2014 issue of a magazine entitled “I Am Zain”. After discussion with the owner of that magazine, as well as experiencing the positive responses that exposure generated towards their entertainment business, they decided to begin a magazine company of their own that would target a new type of entertainment promoting style.

We Are Jersey Magazine’s goal is designed to pro-vide exposure, references and resources that will influence all those aspir-ing to do something posi-tive with the talents they possess. Through the lives of the individuals that are highlighted in the magazine, it is the desire of We Are Jersey Magazine to encourage, uplift and inspire anyone to continue to soar to greater heights and deep-er depths with their abili-ties.

While We Are Jersey Magazine primarily focuses on talent within the state of New Jersey, it is open to talent presented from abroad. The single focus is the promotion of positive talent so others can read and possibly experience for them-selves the benefits that these talents offer. “We Are Jersey” is a positive platform with great opportunities. Are YOU ready to be the next feature?

dj brumadj bruma Born and raised on the mean streets of Cartago, Costa Rica, DJ Bruma, AKA Dixon Navarro, started his musical journey when he was 11, when he discovered a Reggae record collection. In 2006, it was at this moment that Dixon knew he wanted to be part of ‘The Reggae Scene’. Instantly he fell in love with almost every rid-dim that flowed through his ears including Mavado, Flashy, Vybz Kartel to Busy Signal, Aidonia, and Di Genius. By 2009, he moved from his Cartago hometown to West-wood, New Jersey. While expe-riencing different culture but the same old dream played in his head.

In 2010, at 16, he bought his first DJ set and got started making beats in his home. By the age of 17, he was already uploading online live streams, practicing, and networking with other artists for jingles. In 2013, he played during the first Love or Lust event for Jersey Turn’t Up Entertainment.

Featured DJ DJ Bruma realized he was destined to be a successful DJ after seeing the crowd’s reaction and dancing to every track he synchronized. It was after this point when he started getting gigs at other local events including End of College Bash and Tempted to Touch.

Dixon Narvarro suffered a terrible car accident September 21 2013 . As a result he was hospitaized and in a coma for nearly 2 months. In Novem-ber of 2013 Dixon awakened out of his coma with only slight memory loss, and with the help and support of his close friends and family he was able to regain all of his memory. Dixon is now back to doing what he loves; djing with his team and once again advertising his skills as DJ Bruma. Dixon abil-ities grow everyday and he is now on the rise to even higher heights. After receiving several offers, DJ Bruma joined Jersey Turn’t Up Ent, who helped distribute his tracks in addition to his own personal promotion, (‘Dancehall Freestyle’ and ‘Hip Hop Freestyle’ )in 2013. DJ Bruma is a fight-er, and since 2013,has been locked in the books perfecting his craft. Suffice to say, the Reggae scene as well as the club scene should expect big things from DJ Bruma in 2014.

Featured DJAfter being in your accident, how hard was it for you to recover and get back into doing what you love, djing?

It was really complicated for me to get back into djing, because my hands were numb after my accident. After extensive therapy, the feeling has come back so that I can continue doing what I love to do..

Since you are a dancehall dj who also came from another country, what do you consider to be one of the hardest things about your craft?

One of the hardest thing for me is to expose people to my craft and like it. Not many people know about reggae/dancehall music,so it is some-what difficult to know the music they know about. Where I lived, everyone knew everything and were more in love with that genre than over here.

Do you feel you connect more with Spanish music or dancehall music?

I feel more connected to dancehall music, because I have listened to it since I was 11 yrs old. Even though I couldn’t un-derstand what they said in their songs it was still my favorite genre ofmusic. Now I understand most of it and it gives me a better feel than mainstream music.

THE JOURNEY TO SEMI-PROGeorge Peralta

George Peralta was born in the Bronx New York on June 6, 1993. Shortly after birth, he moved to a few areas before settling to his present location of Emerson NJ. George grew up very humble and quiet and was very much the introvert. He attended Emerson high school and became an active member of their football team as an offensive guard. His primary responsibilities included protecting the quarterback and creating holes and lanes for the running back. His love and passion for football never wavered and it was during his high school experience that his dreams be-gan of one day playing professionally. Says George, “…when it came time to football... let’s just say “I zoned it”.

After graduating from high school, George took an alternate route to study massage therapy. He understood that football players need a staff of indi-viduals that would be able to help with injuries that may arise.

Journey to Semi-Pro

“I wanted to find a career that could integrate sports and therapy and that’s why I selected this career”, says George. He is a licensed massage therapist and currently works at a spa specializing in Swedish, Sports, Shiatsu, and Integrat-ed Therapeutic care.

He gets great satisfaction in knowing that he is helping his clients feel better, and gaining the skills and experience necessary to propel his career to another level in the area of sports therapy. As George continues to keep his dream alive of playing professional football, he has been working with a personal trainer since October 2013 to properly condition his body for the impending tryout season. Through his trainer and personal motivation to achieve his ultimate dream, he has been able to lose weight and become a healthier individual through proper diet and exercise. He continues to train for the position of offensive guard, and has expanded his abilities to learning and mastering the position of wide receiver. His journey to the NFL will begin when he tries out for the semi pro football team in Florida during the December- January tryout season. It is his hope that from being on a semi-pro team, scouts will recognize and admire his abilities so that he can be drafted into playing professionally. “Playing semi-professional football and one day getting into the NFL will help me provide for family, be successful and create a legacy for my future”.

George has overcome many obstacles along the path to pursue his dream. He had people tell him that he was not good enough, healthy enough, strong enough or smart enough to achieve his goals. Such negativity fueled George to strive harder to push towards his destiny, and work harder. Eventually he realized that he couldn’t go through life without having achieved greatness. Says George, “there is always room for improvement; playing football and massage therapy are the tools I use to keep me focused. He reminds himself that he does this for his family and legacy. “I’ve lost my father and my sister and my grandfather and I motivate myself to do this for them”.

Journey to Semi-Pro

Page 20: We Are Jersey Magazine September 2014

Journey to Semi-Pro The best advice George can give to someone is to let your faith in God guide you. Says George, “you may believe you’re the best at what you do but at the end of the day, God is the one that allows you to be success-ful in your goals, and pursue your destiny”. He attributes his success thus far to his humility, ability to work hard, and motivation, and when the time comes, he knows he will reap the benefits of the hard work that he has sown.

What keeps you going when your down or feel you can’t get to the semi-pro goals you set for yourself?

I rarely let myself get down to a certain extent. I always remain positive as much as I can because I can’t afford to think negatively.

What NFL athlete motivates you the most just by watching them? What team is your dream team?

I don’t have a specific player that motivates me because I believe I can com-pete with them all. I compete with myself. My favorite team would have to be the Jets, but there are 32 NFL teams so to be apart of anyone of them would be amazing.

How often would you say you train for the semi-pro competitions?

I try to train between 4-6 times a week, because you can never take training lightly.

When do you leave for tryouts?

I leave either at the very end of this year or beginning of next year wish me luck.

*Note: We Are Jersey wishes George all the best as he pursues his dream.

Robbie MaxxFrom State Championships to college recruit, from a college student/ath-lete to a college dropout, Robbie Maxx has revamped his past into an unex-pected Musical/Lyrical/Personable artist through determination, patience, and that same ‘Never Back Down’ mentality that has traveled with him through his competitive past. Finally, Robbie Maxx and Airplay Entertain-ment proudly introduce to you an ‘Industry Beast’ ready to tackle what too many take for granted, LIFE! As a young athlete, Robbie has dabbled with music since freshman year in college where he began with simply creating a MySpace page. After friends began to catch on and see some talent, he began encountering producers and others working hard like him searching for a come up.

Madison, Robbie soon found himself re-vamping his solo career after the group parted ways. A year and a half later Robbie Maxx dropped his debut solo mixtape, “Industry Beast Volume 1: The Alter Ego”, which re-ceived great reviews and had some classic visuals and anthems, including the Summer anthem “Summer Vacation” produced. by Eugene Ugo & Weezy (video available on YouTube).

During his third year attending Montclair State University, Robbie met Airplay Enter-tainment’s, Elijah “Jah Messiah” Duplessis by chance. He soon found his way to their studio in Bloomfield, NJ called ‘The Booga Basement’ where legendary artists such as The Fugees, City High, and Akon made their come up!

As a child growing up, music surrounds us; what type of music did you hear the most back then? How does is differ from what you listen to now?

Growing up, all I really heard was the music of the 60s and 70s be-cause my mother always had her music playing, I got to know Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Paul Simon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson 5, and all that was before I even knew what Hip Hop was. I would sing Paul Simon “Me and Julio”, at family gatherings when I was 3 years old. I was always the one entertaining! Not until Eminem became known and into my teen years did I really embrace Hip Hop and fall for the music and culture, and I was hooked. The combination of the two though has definitely made me become the artist and person you see today! I really appreciate a good song/project and all facets of music.

What made you realize that music was your path?

I would say over the past 3-4 years I have fully come into my own as a musician, artist, and person. Even though I have been in the industry and have been an artist for much longer than that, I don’t think I realized that this was exactly where I needed to be and is exactly what I needed to be doing. I love what I do! I now realize the possibilities and opportunity to change things for the better and preach the idea of “belief ” for people who struggle finding that within themselves while making awesome music and making people feel good. Music has allowed me to find me, and even with-out creating it still helps people find themselves and get through hard times and I love that!

What can people expect to see at your live performance?

They’re going to get a lot of energy! I bring excitement and emotion to the stage. I interact with the fans and crowd and might even bring out some surprises, who knows?! I truly believe it’s often times out of body and I just get into this zone thats almost unpredictable at times. Just know you’re getting your moneys worth, thats all!

If you could perform with anyone in the world, either deceased, alive, or no longer together who would it be? Why? (Name up to three)

1) Michael Jackson, because he’s the greatest artist of all time2) Eminem, because he’s my musical inspiration3) Freddie Mercury, because I believe he’s the greatest front man of all time and I know the energy is crazy! ( I would have loved to have him on a hook of mine)

Has there been one particular moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? What’s next for you?

I don’t think one moment really outshines any other to be totally honest. I’m most proud that I really overcame a lot in my life to be where I am now, mostly self doubt and addiction. I can’t believe I do what I do and am where I am, it almost doesn’t make sense, but I’m fi-nally happy! I want three things in this industry, 1) Grammy 2) Perform at the Super Bowl 3) Platinum Album … maybe then I’ll be proud! As far as what’s next, I’m releasing new music in the Summer while handling the backend work before I drop my EP and album most likely in Fall/Winter. The sky is definitely the limit.

Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us?

I love sports and like to think I’m pretty good. I have played sports my entire life. Baseball, Basketball, Football in high school and continued with football into college (Montclair State University) before stopping my sophomore year. Besides that, I love to travel and meet people and unfor-tunately have barely even gotten the chance considering how big this world is, but that’s my number one interest in life at this point. I want to see the world! How do you like to enjoy relaxation time away from the music?

Lately, I really enjoy time to myself. I watch a ton of Netflix and HBO GO! Aside from that, I really like spending time with my family and girl-friend, where I can just be myself and not Robbie Maxx the rapper/artist guy!

What has been your strongest influence to continue performing? I really love to see people enjoy themselves while consciously deliver-ing a message of positivity. It's such a high to see people love what I do be-cause there's so much that goes into it behind the scenes that people don't understand. On that stage I think people gravitate to my show because it's so genuine! That feeling will keep me performing forever, I don't think that feeling goes away unless you just lose it .What has been the biggest challenge for you

The biggest challenge for me most people would think would be that I am a white guy in a predominantly black culture but I don't feel that be-cause I have always felt comfortable, even though people looked at me cra-zy! I believe the biggest challenge I have faced has been making my family and girlfriend accept and believe in this lifestyle. I don't expect anyone to understand but they have stood by my side after I put them through a lot and now I feel obligated to make something of myself and be exactly what Itold them I would be and that’s successful

What advice would you give to others trying toget into the industry and achieve success?

Be Yourself. Make yourself proud before you worry about making some-body else proud because not everybody is your friend, but know, every-body is valuable to your come up. Learn while knowing whats best for you! And of course, take your time! There’s no rush, time is your friend if you know how to use it.

ADEAN FORD, Founder of Ford Fitness Health

Adean is a young lady on the move to help others achieve their fitness goals. Her desire to go into the career of fitness training came from her ex-periences in high school. During high school, she dealt with issues of in-security and self confidence. However, whenever she would work out, she realized her entire perspective would change. She slowly began to under-stand that when the total body (spirit, mind, physical) are properly in sync, she would achieve greater levels of productivity and spread positive vibes to others. Says Adean, “working out and changing my unhealthy lifestyle helped me gain confidence.

Because of the change in my eating habits and exercise program, I have become stronger physically and mentally”. To prepare her for her career, Adean will soon be enrolling in a fitness certification program. She is also presently working at a gym, and learning on the job training from her manager. While she doesn’t have clients yet, she is excited about the direction of her life at this point, and is looking forward to building her fitness business.

I want readers to know that anything is pos-sible and you are the only one who can take control of your life. Once upon a time, I didn’t believe I had control, and I didn’t believe I was capable of doing something great, but now I know that my something great is to inspire and help change lives”.

Says Adean, “fitness is not only about hav-ing a good body and losing weight, but it is about having self- control, believing that you can do anything you put your mind to, and loving yourself enough to take care of your body.

In 2010, Bungie, Inc. dished out their last game in the Halo franchise, Halo: Reach. The game, aside from being critically acclaimed and positively re-viewed by the community, marked the end of Bungie’s partnership with Microsoft. Fans everywhere screamed in disapproval but were hopeful, as well as a little doubtful, when it was revealed that Bungie would now be partnering up with long time Sony ally Activision. Was this to be their step forward into a bold and exciting new future for the company? Or did it mark the end of the famous game developer? I delved in to find out.

Destiny, as it has been advertised by Bungie, is a ‘Brave New World’. Ven-turing into unmarked and unexplored territory for them, they hoped that this would be a game that players come back to for the next ten years with extravagant and rich storytelling and environments. I was a little skepti-cal at first when I heard Bungie was leaving Microsoft and shifting away from their flagship franchise Halo. It was their baby: a game that defied all expectations of what PC and console games were at the time. Constantly pushing the boundaries and taking leaps of faith, they enticed players with their new and original ideas of how players could enjoy their games, while simultaneously enjoying the games themselves. From Marathon to Myth, Bungie has only ever created games that they themselves enjoyed, and in turn ended up being games that the gaming community came to love and cherish. Destiny is a bold new addition to their already staggering list of previous successes.

The games setting takes place many years after Humanities “Golden Age”. An age that was marked by the discovery of an object they dub ‘The Traveler’. A spherical orb of unknown origin and massive size, the Traveler gives Humanity new powers to grow as a civilization. Desolate planets be-came rich life-sustaining garden worlds and human lifespan triples. Hu-manity ventures out into the stars, filled with hope and pride at their new found power. But there was a secret. A secret only the Traveler knew. Dark-ness. A darkness that had been hunting the Traveler for eons across the endless depths of space. And after a few hundred years, the darkness found its target, and with it, humanity.

The game begins with a small AI called a Ghost, searching for the player, who the player soon finds out has been dead for some time. Upon revival, the player learns he is what’s called a Guardian: A warrior des-tined to protect ‘the last safe, great city on Earth’. Instilled with capabilities far beyond that of a normal human being, the player sets out to defeat the darkness and ensure humanity’s survival. Destiny has many Bungie fans wondering if it will bring to the table what the last Halo games possessed that kept players coming back to their games years after they were released: A rich story with amazing character depth, multiplayer defining experi-ences and excellent music to boot. And don’t worry my prestigious Spartan fans. This game will deliver. The game has almost the entire original Bungie team working on it, and has many unique and familiar aspects to it. From a celebrity voice appearance by Emmy award winning Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, to being filled with music by Bungies long time audio lead Martin O’Donnell, the game take has many surprises in store for play-ers. Fights are rich, and can be rushed through a-la Halo style, but usually require some strategy.

Control is fluid and customizable with aspect of other FPS games thrown in like sprinting, sliding and 3 different classes of guardians to choose from, each with their own unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Along with excellent multiplayer, the graphics, when called next-gen, is an understatement.

The game itself is a living testament to the hard work and idealistic goals Bungie has always set for itself, and promises to have players coming back for the next decade. A pretty lofty goal, but a goal that only Bungie is ca-pable of achieving. And if you’ve ever been a Halo fan, definitely give this game a try, and I promise you won’t be disappointed.Hope to see you soon, Guardian. If you’re interested in playing, let’s have a good time vanquish-ing evil from the realms of man. After all: what’s a hero without a partner? Contact me through my XBOX gamertag: xDodenhoff
