Winner of the Legendary Award

Life is short. Smile while you still have teethThese days with the fast way of life and the

increase in the amount of junk food consumed, kids end up getting bad teeth and they end up atthe dentists’ at an early age and too frequently. Here are some common conditions that bother kidsand in turn their parents.

For instance, Dental caries is the most commonin children as they consume a lot of Carbohydrate-rich foods such as candy, cookies, soft drinks andeven fruit juices leave deposits on the teeth. Thosedeposits bond with bacteria that in your mouthand form plaque. Dental plaque should beremoved at least twice daily to reduce tooth enamelexposure to acids. Chocolates, sticky foods likecream filled cookies and wafers and to top it allchildren, fail to gargle after that or even forget tobrush at night. There is one common mistake thatis an important cause of caries involving the milkteeth, is that most children are bottle fed at nightor for the convenience of the mother, they breastfeed at night before they fall asleep.

Tooth decay is the process that results in toothstructure loss. It occurs when acids are present inyour mouth that destroys tooth enamel integrity. It is important to visit your pediatric dentist todiagnose the cause of tooth decay, whether it’sbacterial or dietary or both. Most of the time ifcaught early tooth decay can be treated quiteeasily without traditional drill and fill methods. Ifextensive tooth structure loss has occurred dentalrestorations, fillings, crowns, extractions may benecessary.

Trauma is another common problem thatchildren face especially in the age of 1-2 half yearsas they are very prone to injuries. Most commontype of trauma include Avulsion(completedisplacement of the teeth fromsocket),Intrusion(inward movement of teeth intothe bone), extrusion(outward or slightdisplacement). what to do when the tooth isdisplaced completely:

1)WASH the teeth in running water to removedebris, DO not wash hard as it will remove the enamel.2)Place the tooth gently in milk or salt solution orcommercially available solution(SAVE-A-TOOTH)solution. 3) Or parents can themselves place the toothgently after debriding and VISIT the dentisitIMMEDIATELY.

Another important issue in kids is Sensitive Teeth.Your teeth expand and contract in reaction to

changes in temperature. Hot and cold food andbeverages can cause pain or irritation to people withsensitive teeth. Sensitive teeth may also be a sign ofother problems: tooth decay, worn tooth enamel, orgum recession. If sensitivity is severe and persistent, please take your child to the dentist. GUM DISEASEor gingivitis, can cause gums to bleed easily andbecome red and swollen. As the disease progressesto periodontitis, teeth become loose, may fall out orneed to be removed by a dentist. Gum disease is highlypreventable and can usually be avoided by dailybrushing and flossing.
