India achieved a historic milestone,

the world’s fastest, cheapest and one of

the most intricate mars mission flawlessly

into Martian orbit on last Wednesday.

Indian Space Research Organization

(ISRO) rode 3 years and has spent only

450 crores of Rupees to complete its Mars

Orbiter Mission (MOM). The US Mavenwhich went into orbit only 2 days before

Wednesday took 6 years and cost $679M

(Rs 4100 crores). MOM cost less than

Hollywood movie Gravity which roughly

cost $100M, a tenth of NASA’s Mars

mission. The Mangalyaan’s journey was

to cover a distance of 65 crore kilometers away with 325 days journey

to join with Martian sphere and subsequent space entries for

completion of a successful mission.

MOM carries 5 instruments like colour cameras, methane sensors

to study the Martian space surface and atmosphere. Prime Minister

Narendra Modi joined the scientists at ISRO Telemetry tracking and

command network center at Bangalore. He proudly remarked that

history has been created and we have dared to reach out into the

unknown and achieved the near impossible with precise professional

accuracy. ISRO scientists and engineers worked nearly one and half years round the clock in completing the great mission in achieving

success. The US Space agencies have now entered into a collaboration

during Modi’s visit to America which is a historic one. Many more

improvements to the rocket technology through Geo Synchronous

satellite is a must for achieving greater strides into further useful

explorations on the Martian space. MOM would serve as a warning

shot to everyone else, the great works of ISRO was lustily cheered and

proudly welcomed by all people in the country and world. Kudos to

ISRO for the marvelous success of the Mars Mission and wish them

success in the future explorations as well.

MARS MISSION - A great milestone
