MEXICOTHE UTAH GLOBAL FORUM WILL HELP BUSINESSES

EXPORT SUCCESSFULLY AND ADAPT TO TODAY’S GLOBAL

MARKETPLACE AND SUCCEED IN UNTAPPED MARKETS.

There are more than seven billion potential customers in the world, and 2.4

billion of them are online. How many of those customers are yours? How

many can you reach today?

The opportunity for any business to expand into the global marketplace

has never been easier. E-commerce has redefined business borders and

business owners are no longer confined by city, stat or country borders.

Today, expanding your sales abroad enhances your bottom-line.

The Utah Global Forum will facilitate the dialogue on how businesses can

expand beyond local borders and develop a strategy of expansion into the

global marketplace through importing opportunities and service exports.

The program offers an incredible breadth of content, bringing experts

from across industry, all with a single objective: move Utah businesses

to the global business stage to meet the challenges of today’s business

environment.

The Utah Global Forum will also create a special focus on Foreign Direct

Investment (FDI) into Utah. FDI represents an opportunity to become more

actively involved in international business activities for all sizes of business.

As such, it may take many forms, such as a direct acquisition, construction

of facilities, or investment in a joint venture or strategic alliance with a local

firm with technology or licensing of intellectual property.

During the last two decades, Utah’s export growth to Mexico has been 30 percent higher than the rest of the world.

The number of Latino-owned businesses in Utah skyrocketed by 78 percent between 2002 and 2007 to 9,238, with 5,339 of them being owned by Mexicans or Mexican descendants, about twice as fast as national levels.

“I have set the goal to increase our value-added exports to $9 billion by the end of 2015. We will accomplish this goal with continued outreach to big businesses as well as smaller start-ups -- businesses along the Wasatch Front as well as those in rural Utah.”

Governor Gary R. HerbertState of the State, January 2014

MEXICO

EUROPE

MIDDLE EAST

CHINAThe United Kingdom is the largest market in the world for Utah exports totaling more than $6 billion in 2012 alone.

U.S. exports of goods and services totaled $2.1 trillion in 2011. Exports are a growing and substantial part of the U.S. economy, accounting for 13.8 percent of our nation’s GDP.

With 95% of the world’s customers living outside the United States and less than one percent of our small businesses selling abroad, our small business are missing out on lucrative opportunities to find their new customers, expand their business and create new higher-paying American jobs.

Utah has experienced strong economic growth related to international trade. From 2008 to 2012, Utah’s exports grew by 85.15% (compared to the national average of 20.1%). Previously Utah saw triple digit exports to targeted international markets. These exports help fuel job creation in Utah, especially for small and medium-sized businesses.
