    IncreasingCompetitiveness

    High ProductivityMeasured in unit labour costs, Germany experienced amajor increase in productivity the past decade.

    In marked contrast to other European countries which haveexperienced an overall increase in unit labourcosts, Germanys unit labour costs decreased by a yearlyaverage of 0.4 percent for the period 2004 to 2011.

    This made the economy more competitive particularly manufacturing.Stable Labour CostsAt the same time, the labour cost gap between Germanyand its eastern European neighbours has been significantlyreduced.

    Since 2002, wageshave risen in most European countries(EU-27), with the growth rate averaging 3.1 percent.

    In eastern Europe experienced a rise of more than 7%

    Germany recorded the lowest labour cost growth within theEU at just 1.6 percent.

    This has been another decisive argument in favour ofGermany as a premium businesslocation .

    Turning up even five or ten minutes after the arranged time - especially for a first meeting - is consideredpersonally insulting and can create a terrible first impression

    2. Use titles and surnamesGerman workers tend to stick to roles and rarely step out of strict office hierarchies
