Presentation description:The Cornerstone Report is market research within the Building Documentation industry conducted by the USIBD Technology Committee. This session will discuss what the CSR is, it’s impact on the industry, and how you can participate. Attendees will get an inside look into how a USIBD Cornerstone Report is developed and executed. We will discuss the most current CSR’s; the recently released CSR 11 on Hardware and the current CSR project focused on the State of the Building Documentation Industry.

Presenter:Josh deStefano leads the Virtual Design & Construction group in DPR's Southwest Region. His team supports research, development, and implementation of various construction technologies including building information modeling, augmented and virtual reality, laser scanning, aerial UAV photography, 360 photography. Their aim is to combine technology and construction to enhance the building process, improve construction quality, and provide the best experience for their clients.

Presentation Description:Service providers have long faced the question of which scanner is the most appropriate one to use to perform their work. This session will compare data obtained from a variety of scanners by scanning material boards made up of common materials often encountered when performing Building Documentation services. The intent is to emulate as closely as possible real world conditions. Data obtained will be presented that will give interested parties the ability to draw their own conclusions on which instrument may be most suitable for an intended use.

Presentation description:Meet and network with members and leadership of the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation, hear about projects USIBD is producing in 2019, including new 2D Imagery Documents, a new white paper, “Building Better Within Existing Conditions”, upcoming LOA V.3, Cornerstone projects, and the USIBD 2019 Symposium.

PresentersJohn M. Russo, AIA is the founder, President and CEO of Architectural Resource Consultants (ARC), a Southern California firm specializing in providing Building Documentation and Architectural services since 1997. ARC has won two consecutive IDIQ contracts with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for Nationwide Laser Scanning, BIM and SDM Services under which ARC was selected to develop GSA’s Laser Scanning QA/QC Process. He has served as a member of the BuildingSMART Alliance and as a contributor to the BIM Forum’s Level of Development (LOD) Specification. In 2011, Mr. Russo founded the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD) - a non-profit membership organization dedicated to furthering excellence of Building Documentation for which he was awarded the SPAR Star Award in 2012 for outstanding contributions to the industry. At the USIBD, Mr. Russo currently serves as the President of the USIBD and Chairs the Level of Accuracy (LOA) subcommittee. Mr. Russo has served on SPAR’s Board of Advisors from 2013 thru 2016. Page 4: usibd.org · Web viewTaliesin West was a working laboratory for Frank Lloyd Wright and this is where he could experiment with materials and push the boundaries to see what could be

Presentation description:Explore 3 case studies where one tool (scanner) just wouldn’t cut it. Learn some of the techniques that Eco3d uses to evaluate a project and what they consider when aligning the right scanners and support equipment. We often use a variety of manufactures and models for complex projects, this mix complicates a traditional workflow and requires the team to evaluate compatibility, best practices and functionality.

PresenterTed is passionate about our industry. His team has grown over the last 8 years to be the largest dedicated reality capture service provider in North America. The Eco3d team performs more than 3000 scans every week throughout the world and customizes every deliverable. His work is highlighted in several industry publications, speaks at conferences throughout the nation and is a guest lecturer at multiple Universities. In addition to his role with Eco3d, Ted also serves as the Vice President of the USIBD and is on the Board of Directors of the United Surveyors of Arizona.

The Taliesin West Data Capture – A tale of exploring new technology in Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratoryBrian Smith, Leica GeosystemsWednesday, 5/22, 10:30 am, 90 min.

Page 5: usibd.org · Web viewTaliesin West was a working laboratory for Frank Lloyd Wright and this is where he could experiment with materials and push the boundaries to see what could be

Presentation description:In 2018 the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation approached Leica Geosystems with a unique problem that could only be solved though the use of cutting edge technology. The Foundation wanted to digitally preserve and share Taliesin West through an immersive experience making it available for all to enjoy, no matter distance, accessibility challenges or time. Taliesin West was a working laboratory for Frank Lloyd Wright and this is where he could experiment with materials and push the boundaries to see what could be done to advance the way we build and live. All of the buildings were experimental buildings that were constructed over time, many with had little or no plans. This construction laboratory seemed a fitting place to also try a new blend of fused sensor technology from a partnership with Leica Geosystems and Matterport captured by Multivista. Through the combination of the BLK360 laser scanner, Matterport camera, sophisticated documentation and an immersive media platform anybody anywhere can now experience the work of the master architect. The preservation team also has over 800 scans documenting the interior and exterior of the entire campus they use as part of the preservation program. True to Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision, this immersive experience represents a new way for the world to access, preserve, and think about design and organic architecture.
