Message from the desk of the Pastor

My dear people of God,

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. In the Eastern Rites of the Church and in the Orthodox Churches, this feast is their celebration of Christmas.

There are several manifestations that we celebrated during this Christmas season. At the birth of our Lord the angels announced this good news to local shepherds.

Today we see how God, the Father, used nature’s star and inspired the three Magi to make their long journey to acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah. They left everything, their home and country… In their diligent search they were led to the source of true knowledge to Jesus Christ, the light and wisdom of God. When they found the new born King they humbly worshiped him and gave him gifts fitting for a king. (Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh).

The Lord of the universe who revealed the star of Bethlehem to the Gentiles of the East so they could come and worship Jesus, the Prince of Peace and King of Kings, gives each one of us the same light of revelation to recognize and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

To know and to encounter Jesus Christ is to know God personally. In the encounter of the Wise Men with Jesus we see the plan of God to give his only Son as King and Savior, not just for the Jewish people but for all the nations as well. The Lord Jesus came that both Jew and Gen-tile might find true and lasting peace with God. Let us pray today that Jew and Gentile alike will find the Lord and Savior on their journey of life. Do you bring the light of Jesus Christ to those you meet through the witness of your life and testimony?

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for bringing salvation to all the nations. May the Gospel of salvation be proclaimed to every nation today and to every person on the face of the earth. Help me to be a good witness of the joy of the Gospel to all I meet.

May God bless you all.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph

Parish Book Club: The Parish Book Club will be meeting on January 13th, 2020 @ 6:45 in the Lanik building to discuss Part One of “The Lamb’s Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth, by Scott Hahn. The book is available for purchase on Amazon. We look forward to seeing you there!!!

Bazaar Meeting on

Sunday, January 12th at 4pm in the

CCE building to discuss

the meal and how we plan to manage it.

Plan on bringing ideas to share.

All are invited and encour-aged to attend.

"You have what it takes. You are strong enough. You are brave enough. You are capable enough. You are worthy enough. It's time to stop thinking otherwise and start believing in yourself because no one else has the dreams that you have. No one else holds the same magic inside. It's time to start believing in the power of

your dreams, my lovely friend. Not next year, not next month, not tomorrow, but now. You are ready." -Walk the Earth

Take a moment to read the quote above to yourself. Do you feel powerful after you read it and feel like you can do anything you put your mind to? Doesn't it encourage you and make you think, "yes, I can do this!!"? I don't know about you, but it definitely motivates me, especially when I start doubting myself. We all have been there before and we all need some encouragement every now and then! It's time for us to start new and not even carry what 2019 brought us. We shouldn't bring that negativity into 2020! Lay it all down. Everything you have struggled with in 2019 that tried to bring you down, give it to God and don't look back. Don't let 2019 impact 2020. The best is yet to come and I am so sure that this year will be so much better for you. God has heard your prayers in 2019 and He is going to give you the blessings you need in this brand new year. I'm proclaiming it right now: 2020 is going to be the best year yet and God is going to reveal the answers to your questions to you. It is going to make sense soon. Please listen to the song, "See A Victory" by Elevation Worship. "I'm gonna see a victory. For the battle belongs to You, Lord. You take what the enemy meant for evil and You turn it for good." Third Order Lay Carmelites: Would you like to deepen your prayer life and develop a closer relationship with God? Lay Carmelites are called to be involved in the mission of the Church by sancti-fying the world through prayer. We are people from all walks of life, married, single, widowed who go about our daily lives contemplating God's presence is the midst of everything and bringing others to Christ by the way we live our lives. Our role models are the prophet Elijah because of his zeal for the Lord, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, because she teaches us the way of contemplative prayer. We study and meet together in community once a month. We have new formation classes be-ginning soon. For more information on what Carmel is all about, contact Yajaira Ayala at 832-330-6092 or Kathy Schutz at 936-203-7954.

At Home or On the Road, God is with Us!

No matter how much we try to extend the holiday with traveling and vacation time and a last party or two, there comes a time when we need to return to our daily activi-ties and responsibilities. School starts up again, work beckons, and we have to bid farewell to Christmas once again. It can be refreshing to reclaim the space that was filled with the Christmas tree and other decorations. We forsake the Christmas cookies and boxes of candy for healthier food choices in the new year. If we’ve traveled to visit family, we return home, put away the suitcases, finish vacation laundry, and settle into our lives. Mary, Joseph, and Jesus traveled a great deal during the first years after the birth—back and forth to Jerusalem, a so-journ in Egypt, a return to their home in Nazareth. In later years, Luke’s Gospel tells us, they traveled on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, where Jesus was separated from his parents and found conversing with holy teachers in the temple. Whether we’re traveling or at home, the one thing we know is that God is with us.

Do you know a couple that is having a challenging situation in their relationship and need help? We may be able to coach you as a couple. We offer enrichment ses-sions, consulting and mentoring for mar-ried couples experiencing some crisis or challenges in their relationship. For more detailed information please contact the office of Family Life Ministry at 713-741-8711

Prayer after Communion

Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ,

wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O Good Jesus, hear me. Within Thy wounds hide me. Suffer me not to be separated
