NORTH CAROLINA MODELS

Tori Mckoy was born and raised in Dunn, North Carolina and is a retired Iraq veteran. She is a self-taught photographer who now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tori’s passion for photography was inspired by a range of talented photographers, which include Steven Klein, Dana Cole, Carey Bradshaw, and Derek Blanks. She was motivated to pursue photography after she fell in love with the aspects of taking photographs and using them for product and marketing. Having worked with various other photographers and going to school for graphic design, Tori Mckoy undoubtedly knew that fashion and beauty, assembled together, could master a work of art for the fashion lookers. Aside from taking great photographs and capturing the beauty of her clients, Tori Mckoy is also a self-taught makeup artist. When asked “what prompted you to begin doing makeup?” She responded saying, “ makeup came into play because although I love fashion and beauty, all of my clients are not models, [yet] everybody wants to feel like one [and] some people don’t know the first thing about makeup.” In essence, Tori became her own glam squad, doing makeup for majority of her

clients, as well as, being their photographer. Being a self-taught photographer and makeup artist is not just a job

for Tori, but also a way, in which she can lift the spirits of her clients, while watching

transformations from the inside out. Tori’s work can be found at

www.torimckoyimagery.com.LaTina Burney, perhaps better known as Tina B. KonTroVersi to the fashion lovers of this world, was born in Kinston, North Carolina. She now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina where she is a fashion stylist and owner of her boutique, KonTroVersi. For as long as LaTina could remember, she has always been into fashion. As a child her mother would dress her in the most stylish dresses and for family portraits, she and her family would even dress in matching outfits. Growing up in a fashion oriented home such as this, LaTina was destined to become a fashion lover, obsessed with creativity and style. However, fashion was not initially apart of LaTina’s life; determined to become an RN, LaTina went to college to pursue what she thought was going to be her future. She quickly realized that becoming an RN would have to take a backseat to satisfying her quench for the creative arts. LaTina eventually obtained her degree in Fashion Merchandising where she worked a few major fashion shows, behind the scenes and managed in retail; hence the birth of KonTroVersi. LaTina’s passion for fashion and for the magazine, UXposed in partnership with Tori Mckoy, focuses on the urban creative scene of fashion and giving individuals a sense of style through her various wardrobe choices. She is inspired by fashion stylists’ Monica Rose, Shun Melson, Rachel Zoe, and J. Bolin. Her objective is to make people look and feel good. LaTina’s style sessions are not just for the moment, but instead for a lifetime. She believes that inner beauty is just as important as outer beauty when styling an individual; therefore, she thrives to bring out both elements. KonTroVersi allows people to exude more confidence by choosing what styles fit their personality. LaTina’s trendy, one of a kind looks can be purchased at www.kkontroversi.com.

We live in a world where fashion is continuously changing where wearing something may be

considered the fashion trend of today, but not the fashion trend of tomorrow, two weeks from now, or next month. We all are utterly aware of the trendy styles and fresh looks gracing the streets of New York City and Paris, France, but what about the chic and fashionable styles of North Carolina? UXposed is a fashion magazine based out of North Carolina, solely inspired by Tori Mckoy, photographer at Tori Mckoy Imagery and Tina B KonTroversi, owner at KonTroversi.

The essential purpose of UXposed Maga-zine is to take the fashion world by storm in the state of North Carolina. In the words of Tori Mckoy, “I think it’s time that North Carolina heads toward a [more diverse] type of editorial fashion. Something dif-ferent and controversial for the fashion lookers.” UXposed Magazine showcas-es the latest, hottest and chic fashions for all seasons and caters to a diverse population of men and women— regardless of shape, size, ethnicity, etc.

In essence, style is all about choosing clothes that fit you and wearing things with confidence; owning the streets; and walking through life like “every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway” -Coco-Chanel. UXposed will show you how to build your wardrobe and find fierce, individual pieces that work for you and appeal to who you are as an individual.

UXposed builds a platform for up and coming, fresh-faced models in North Carolina by

allowing them to be creative through an array of stunning looks. There’s no denying that New York City and Paris, France demonstrates edginess, but so does North Carolina. UXposed is geared towards helping you select your style of choice; the only thing left for you to do is to decide which fashion approach you are going to take.

IN THE SHADOWS

Where are you from and what state do you currently reside?

“I am from a lot of different places but I claim Iowa. Specifically, Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa. I went to college at the Universty of Iowa in Iowa City. (Go Hawk-eyes.) I lived up and down the eastern and southern US but I now, proudly reside in Durham, North Carolina. #bullcity”

Who are some of the people in the modeling industry that you look up to and why?

“The one person that I genuinely most admire in the modeling industry is of course, Tyra Banks. I grew up watching Tyra grow up. Although, she has not always had the most politically correct opinion on seemingly frivolous matters, she is one model that knows her business. I respect Tyra because she never shys away from the process. I find her to be extremely encouraging of those that seriously have an interest in this industry whether they are young or old, behind the lens or in front of the lens.”

At what age did you begin modeling?

“I was asked to mod-el when I was around the age of 14, by a talent scout for the Mary Brown agency, then based out of Marion, Iowa and the same agency that found Ashton Kutcher. Since then, I trained for pageants, recieved various training in modeling, voice and speech and acting for theater, television and commercial. I’ve been freelance modeling, really getting heavily involved with creating images, since I was around 20 years old.”

FASHION

In modern times, the bright colors, intriguing patterns and intricate designs of the African fabrics continue to be the muse for designers everywhere. As more contemporary and modern styles are being cut out of the African fabric, the African fabric is becoming more practical and functional for everyday applications as it transitions into the fun, modern and sassy category.

Who are some of the people in the modeling industry that you look up to and why?

“Well, I definitely look up to the infamous Naomi Campbell and the talented Tyra Banks. They have both been in the modeling industry for a while and many aspiring models, such as myself, look up to them. However, I also admire the new, fresh-faced models, such as Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne, Chanel Iman, and Coco-Rocha (the queen of 60 poses in 60 seconds) like who wouldn’t want to pull off 60 FIERCE poses in 60 seconds!? Lol However, they’re all beautiful and very talented. Modeling takes skill and they possess THAT skill.”

What other avenues of the entertainment industry would like to be a part of?

“I have always had a passion for acting. I used to act in church plays as a child and loved it.”

How would you describe your style?

“I would describe my style as unique and daring. If I like two combinations of cloth-ing together, then I’m most likely going to put it on. If I decide to wear a button-up plaid blouse, paired with a polka-dot pencil skirt, then that’s probably what I’m going to do. Whatever I wear, I wear with confidence; most of the time people will see that confidence and perhaps love your outfit.”

14 UXPOSED

Where are you from and what state do you currently reside?

“ I’m from Fayetteville, NC and currently reside in NC.”

What advice do you have for other aspiring models like yourself?

“ The advice I have for other aspiring models is to stay confident and have fun with it and everything else will come natural.”
