Introduction (1.1 & 1.5) I am tasked with creating a magazine cover that is based on the Salford area called City Life; this requires me to create my own pictures using various programmes such as Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator . These programmes will help me create the cover to my Salford based magazine. I will be using my own images that I have taken myself and edited in Photoshop to make it more appealing to others. These designs will be used as cover pictures and a contents page. On my Magazine I will include the key features that a magazine such as a Masthead, Main Cover Line and more. I will be creating a logo also which will be produced in Adobe Illustrator and be put onto the cover of the magazine.

After I have finished my magazine cover and contents page; I will be uploading it to my blog as it is apart of my assignment.

Survey Introduction(1.1 & 1.5)

I have to create a survey that allows me to collect information (preferably for the magazine) to see what types of things people are interested in. I will be using a website called Survey Monkey to help create my survey. I will also be implementing the ideas that people would want, into my magazine cover so then it feels like I have taken there thoughts & ideas into consideration; I will be taking the ideas from the results I have at the end of the survey.

Survey Research (1.1 & 1.5)

Survey Questions

1. What would you want a magazine to be based on? 2. How much would you spend on a magazine? 3. What would you like the cover of the magazine to look like?4. When would you like the magazine to be issued?5. Would you buy the magazine if it were issued?6. What content would you want in the magazine?7. How much/many images would you want in the magazine?8. What type of font/theme would you want for the logo of the magazine

to be?9. Would you like to be able to have a subscription for the magazine?10.  Finally, how often would you read a magazine?

Logo design

I chose this Logo design because I felt like it would be quite suitable for a magazine cover. With the relation to music. I thought that music plays a small part in society so having an instrument as a logo would fit perfectly with the magazine.

Designing the magazine (1.4, 2.1, 2.2)

Copy right (1.3) Explain what copy right is (you can cope and paste in

from your other power point) and why your design and images meet copy right regulations then delete this text

Copyright is a law that protects any of your content that you have produced such as images, music, logos and album art. If someone uses your created content without permission, you can sue them for a reasonable sum of money. You have the choice over your content and what you do with it whether it be letting other people using your content but this could be for a percentage of what you make from using the content.

1.7 Organising Your Files

Take a screen shot of your fold with you files saved in and paste it here

1.6 File FormatsWhich file format will you used and why?

I will save a copy of my magazine as a JPEG ( Joint Photographic Experts Group); reason being is that you can compress the file size of the JPEG so then the quality will not be tampered with and will be the same amount of DPI (Dots per Inch). Secondly, you can use it to send to recipients so then they can check out your files and see if it looks right. Third advantage being that your work cannot be edited by any other user.

Disadvantages of using JPEG is that it cannot support transparency; this means you will not be able to have JPEG image file that’s is transparent.

Secondly, it is not suitable for logos and icons. Reason being is that if you save the image with it being transparent, it will make the file size bigger but the image resolution or DPI will be decreased. Lastly, you cannot edit the image once it has been flattened in Photoshop. The reason is because once you have even saved the image, you cannot even go back to edit it.

1.6 File Formats

I will also save a copy of my magazine as a PDF (Portable Document Format) because it reduces file size but not the quality; this would be perfect for printing as there will be no loss in resolution or DPI. Secondly, another good advantage being that a PDF can support hyperlinks and file attachments within the document you have. This is extremely useful as a online magazine as it supports hyperlinks. Third and final advantage, you can use this file format in any programme and application. This would be very useful if you use a variation of programmes.

One bad thing about a PDF is that it is very hard to be edited but mostly, they cannot be edited at all.

1.6 File FormatsI will be creating a magazine in Adobe Photoshop using the PSD (Photoshop Document) file format because It has many advantages varying from adding transparency, masks and colour profiles. This would be very useful if you were to go back and edit the PSD in the future. This is also another advantage; if you save it as a PSD you can go back and edit it any time you want, which will be very useful as if you there were changes need to be made without re-doing all of it from scratch. Finally, this file format will save absolutely everything unlike a JPEG.

Bad advantages can be very hindering for this file format as it takes up a huge amount of disc space. This is because of the quality/DPI being very high so it needs to use a large amount of space to save it. Secondly, this file format will not be able to opened when you try to use it in various programmes; this will hinder you very much in making progress on our work.

I will be saving a copy of my magazine as a PSD as I think it is the best one to use because I have a habit of saving my work all the time so this will be helpful.

2.3 How your work meet’s clients needs

The final images produced met the clients needs as I have used Adobe programmes to help me produce images to use in my magazine. The reason why I think they have met the clients needs is that I have used and produced my own final images using various programmes.

The image file format is saved as a JPEG; reason being because I could easily move and used the image in other programmes instead of being restricted to one programme. This makes it more efficient.

The quality of the image is not distorted nor pixelated as it is clear and visible.

The images promote Salford City College because I have taken various and specific images that are relatable to SCC.
