• A coalition of 48 states (including KY), two territories and District of Columbia developed new English/language arts and mathematics standards

• Kentucky educators provided input

• A KDE survey gave various stakeholder groups an opportunity for feedback on the public version of the standards

• Goals: Reduce college remediation rates by at least

50% by 2014 in comparison to 2010 rate Increase college completion rates in students

enrolled in one or more remedial classes by 3% annually from 2009 to 2014

Education and the Economy and five Board Exam System providers

• Goal is to prepare high school students for success in two-year and four-year open admissions colleges and ensure they will earn a degree
