• Find a quiet place to sit in the woodlands. Ask children to sit in silence with their eyes closed for 30 seconds and to listen to the sounds of the woods. • Once this time is over, ask children to describe how being in the woodland makes them feel. Each child should come up with 2 adjectives (teacher can always place on a taboo on a couple of ‘easy’ choices- such as ‘happy’, ‘relaxed’, ‘nice’- to make this more difficult). Children to write their word choices in the scaffold on the Nature Themed Poetry resource. • Give pupils 5 minutes to find 3 interesting woodland items (such as pine cones, stones, leaves). Advise them to stay away from fungi- this can be dangerous. • Ask children to find an adjective to describe each of their items using the colour swatch on the Nature Themed Poetry resource. They should then write these on the scaffold in this resource. • Instruct students to write complete the poetry scaffold to create a short poem of 3 lines. This will include colours, feelings and woodland objects. Instructions on Nature Themed Poetry resource.
