•Imagining you are a Victorian plant hunter look at the trees around you and think of all the ways in which they differ from one another. •Think about size, shape, colour, texture of the bark, flowers, leaves etc. •Look at the spotter sheet. From the ground, collect evidence in the form of leaves, bark, seeds etc. Using this evidence can you identify the trees around you? •Choose a leaf from the ground. What adjectives can you think of to describe the leaves? (dull, glossy, hairy, oval, pointy) •Get into partners. By using the adjectives you've chosen, describe a leaf to your partner and see if they can draw it. •Trees use their leaves to make their own food. What ingredients do they use? (water, carbon dioxide, etc) •Get into partners. Explain the process of photosynthesis to your partner as if he/she is an alien. •Come back together as a group. Choose pupils randomly to explain photosynthesis to the rest of the class to ensure understanding.
