The WITF Public Media Center is a quiet place these days; a very small core staff keep the gears to our radio and television service running. However, whether in the office or working from home (like me in Carlisle), my colleagues and I have never been more dedicated. We’re here to keep you informed when you need to be, as well as to keep you entertained when you desire that much-needed break from the news cycle.

Thank you for your continued investment in public media in our region. Stay safe, stay healthy and stay tuned!

This guide is primarily designed to inform you about what’s happening during the primetime hours because that is where the greatest number of viewers

are catching our schedule. This is all true as it has ever been, but we’re undergoing changes that you may also be interested to know about.

Daytime on WITF during the week has mainly been dedicated to PBS KIDS programming. This dedication continues with seven hours of educational and researched quality children’s programming beginning each weekday at 6am. A few years back WITF also launched a channel with nothing but PBS KIDS programming on 33.2. This channel is accessible to most viewers via an antenna, cable, FIOS and through a smart TV or smartphone. In response to the sudden movement to distance learning for grade school students, we adjusted our programming for our new initiative Learning at Home. Now, middle and high school students could watch programs in the afternoon that coincided with their classroom curriculum. This included programs like Nature, NOVA, encore broadcasts of The Great American Read and Ken Burn’s The Roosevelts series.

We have heard requests from you, educators and even students to keep this new afternoon block of programming to assist with academic needs in the summer and fall.

WITF continues a variety of how-to programs (cooking, quilting, sewing and painting) from noon to 2pm. From 2pm to 4pm WITF presents a varied mix of programs like Nature, NOVA, Finding Your Roots, American

Masters and many other renowned PBS series specifically scheduled for learning at home. You can find schedule listings for this block at witf.org/schedules.

WITF is expanding the news and information block beginning at 4pm with the replay of Amanpour & Company. 5pm features an hour of international news with DW The Day and BBC World News America. We’ll wrap up our news block with the daily broadcast of PBS NewsHour at 6pm.

It has been a year since Hyacinth returned to the schedule with Keeping Up Appearances. FRESH AIR with Terry Gross

Monday-Thursday at 3pm and 10pm

Check out the new weekend line-up on WITF

We regularly re-evaluate our schedule with adjustments made over the summer months. We have a new schedule beginning Saturday July 11. Changes on Saturday begin at 1:00pm with On The Media moving earlier in the day and Radiolab and This American Life moving one hour later. Later in the evening on Saturday The Moth Radio Hour returns to 6:00pm with Snap Judgment moving up an hour to 7:00pm. I regret to share the news that Live From Here has abruptly ended production. Citing “large and unexpected financial challenges” the show’s producing station, Minnesota Public Radio, made the difficult decision to conclude the program. This is the end of an era. Live from Here and its predecessor A Prairie Home Companion had been a mainstay on public radio stations across the country for decades.

On Sunday, we welcome the New Yorker Radio Hour to our schedule at 11:00am. The hour features a mix of profiles, storytelling, and insightful conversations about the issues. A weekly encore of Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me will follow The New York Radio Hour. The afternoon line-up at 1:00pm continues with The Innovation Hub, The Ted Radio Hour and Latino USA. The Splendid Table moves later in the day to follow Rick Steve’s Travel at 7:00pm.

Enjoy the weekends with WITF as your constant companion. In addition to tuning in through your radio, WITF is also available via smart speakers. If you have a Amazon Echo, Google Home or Apple Homepod device in your house you can simply ask those devices to “Play WITF Radio” and it begins streaming WITF.

Health and safety measures, necessary to stem the pandemic, have disrupted many long-held funeral traditions. We understand what an emotional hardship this is and are helping families navigate through these difficult times.

In order to be able to continue to safely serve families, we have adapted. When meeting in person, we are social distancing. We are also able to make arrangements by phone or video conferencing. Video streaming is available for viewing services online.

The Parthemore Family is committed to serving our community during this challenging time.
