Firefly MigrationWe have successfully migrated our Firefly system to the cloud. This should improve the performance of the system during busy times.Students have been sent the new instructions for logging in (the last reminder was sent on 20/01/20 at 7.00am).
Why should I log in to the parent portal? The parent portal gives you access to your child’s timetable, tasks, behaviour logs and attendance as well as access to subject areas containing lesson resources and other important information. In the future we will be sharing trip letters, consent forms and our medical form via Firefly so will need at least one parent/carer in each household to activate their account so they can access these documents easily when required.
If you have any issues with the above, please e-mail Miss Kelly [email protected]

Many of us are experiencing ‘roller- coaster’ emotions at the moment. One minute everything feels ok, and the next, for no obvious reason, things feel really gloomy.
The attached story (click here) is one that I used to read to my daughter and also to tutor groups that I had. I love my job but I really miss not being a form tutor and having a role to play in supporting a small group of students navigate adolescence.
I have read the book and shared the pictures. I hope it helps in understanding feelings. The visualisation of locking away unhelpful thoughts / feelings in drawers is also a useful way of managing them.

History of the NHS: How was the NHS introduced?
The NHS was born was 5 July 1948. On that day, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, opticians, dentists and hospitals cametogether for the first time as one giant UK-wide organisation. Itwas inaugurated when Aneurin “Nye” Bevan, the healthminister who was its far-sighted creator, visited Park hospital inDavyhulme, Manchester. It is now Trafford general hospital andis known as “the birthplace of the NHS” as the first NHShospital. It was a bold and pioneering plan to make healthcareno longer exclusive to those who could afford it but to make itaccessible to everyone. The NHS was born. The National Health Service, abbreviated to NHS, was launchedby the then Minister of Health in Attlee’s post-war government. The aim was to provide a good, strong and reliable healthcareto all was finally taking its first tentative steps. The creation of the NHS in 1948 was the product of years ofhard work and a motivation from various figures who felt thecurrent healthcare system was insufficient and needed to berevolutionised. It meant that everyone in society could accesshealthcare- not just those who were well off in society.

Etymology of …ghetto
• Another word originating from the 1610s, when it meant “part of a city in which Jews are compelled to live," especially in Italy
• The word is borrowed directly from Italian
• Possibly originates from the Italian borghetto "small section of a town“.
• In 1899 started to be used when talking about crowded urban quarters of other minority groups (especially blacks in U.S. cities).
• The word Ghetto-blaster "large, portable stereo cassette-player" is from 1982 and stems from the word ghetto.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 – John Elliot-Gardiner
This year celebrates the achievements of a composer who died 200 years ago in 1820. This anti-establishment, difficult character was one of the most influential composers for the following 100 or so years. This particular symphony known as a ‘transformation’ symphony started a trend, followed by composers such as Mahler and Shostakovich. A dark and minor start, changes to a strong, positive major finale. This idea of triumph over adversity.
Year 8s and 9s – do you recognise it?
The whole symphony is about 30 minutes. Listen to the first movement (about 10 minutes) and then, if you enjoy carry on…..
